Bomba neutralises acid spill at Kuala Kangsar school

IPOH: The Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) took approximately two hours to clean up an acid spill at SMJK Tsung Wah in Kuala Kangsar near here on Thursday (April 24).
Perak Fire and rescue assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received a distress call at 3.30pm, prompting a team from the Kuala Kangsar Fire and Rescue Station to be dispatched to the scene.
"The spill involved a 20l drum of acid stored near the school canteen. The acid had begun to evaporate while a teacher was tidying and cleaning the storage area.
"Firefighters in full protective gear conducted a size-up and applied the SAVER (Systematic Approach for Victim Extrication and Rescue) concept to identify the substance and assess the leakage," he said in a statement.
Sabarodzi said the drum was removed from the storage room and placed in a designated chemical disposal room.
"Firefighters then cleaned the floor to ensure full decontamination. The school was also advised to contact the contractor responsible for managing the acid," he added, noting that the operation concluded fully at 5.55pm. — Bernama

JOHOR BARU, June 22 — The Johor Department of Environment (DOE) did not detect any readings for ammonia at all monitoring locations around the area of the lorry and engine oil store fire at Jalan Cenderai 27, Taman Kota Puteri, Masai, here this morning. However, he said that extinguishing work at Division 2 at the incident location was still continuing due to difficulties due to the obstruction of large and numerous oil drums, making it difficult for firefighters to access the fire to extinguish the fire. A total of five premises were burnt in the incident involving an area of about 1,000 square metres, including 15 vehicles that were also destroyed. The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre received an emergency call on the incident at 12.54pm and a total of 34 personnel and assets from several fire stations including volunteer teams were rushed to the scene. — Bernama

Fuel tanker catches fire near Taman Indah Permai

The Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 11.31pm and arrived at the scene by 11.49pm, with the fire brought under control within 17 minutes. Advertisement No casualties were reported, but about 30 per cent of the tanker was damaged, with 30 personnel from Kota Kinabalu and Lintas fire stations deployed. The team used water tankers, foam, hose reels, and a thermal imaging camera to safely cool the tank and ensure no risk of reignition.
