PM Anwar offers condolences to Hamzah over tragic loss
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his condolences to Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin following the passing of his mother-in-law, Datin Salmiah Nyak Matt, 84, who died in a house fire last night. In a Facebook post, Anwar also offered prayers and support to Hamzah and his family. 'I hope that Hamzah will remain strong in facing this terrible ordeal, and I pray for the best for him and his family. May Allah forgive the sins of his mother-in-law, Salmiah, and grant her a special place in Jannah, Insya-Allah,' he said. Salmiah died in a fire that broke out at a two-storey house in Jalan Raja Abdullah, Kampung Sungai Rapat Tambahan, Ipoh, Perak, at around 9 pm yesterday. Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Sayani Saidon said Salmiah's husband, Datuk Abdul Ghani Ngah, 83, who was found in a room upstairs, suffered shortness of breath and was sent to Raja Perempuan Bainun Hospital (HRPB) for treatment. Four other family members in the house, comprising three men and one woman aged between 18 and 49, escaped unhurt.

Fuel tanker catches fire near Taman Indah Permai

The Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 11.31pm and arrived at the scene by 11.49pm, with the fire brought under control within 17 minutes. Advertisement No casualties were reported, but about 30 per cent of the tanker was damaged, with 30 personnel from Kota Kinabalu and Lintas fire stations deployed. The team used water tankers, foam, hose reels, and a thermal imaging camera to safely cool the tank and ensure no risk of reignition. Fire Dept Keen To Learn From Russia's Use Of AI, Robotics In Firefighting
PUTRAJAYA, June 19 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has expressed interest in deepening its collaboration with Russia's Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM) to explore the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics in emergency response and firefighting operations. Its director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad commended Russia's technological advancements, particularly EMERCOM's innovative use of AI in incident prediction incidents, resource management, and risk analysis. 'We are very keen to learn from Russia's advancements in deploying AI and robotics in fire and rescue work. EMERCOM's use of AI to predict incidents, allocate resources efficiently, and analyse risks is especially relevant and inspiring to us. 'As we move forward with our digital transformation, beginning with our pioneering C4I - Command, Control, Communications,Computers and Intelligence - we are now looking into how we can make the most of smart systems, unmanned aerial vehicle, predictive modelling, and AI-powered surveillance for real-time monitoring in firefighting and disaster risk reduction,' he said. Nor Hisham said this in his welcoming speech during a courtesy call by Russia's EMERCOM Minister Colonel General Alexander Kurenkov at the JBPM headquarters here today. Nor Hisham also highlighted the department's interest in exploring advanced fire safety systems, particularly the potential application of Russian fire safety systems in Malaysia. 'One well-known brand already available is Pyrogen, which offers aerosol-based solutions such as the EXA Aerosol Fire Suppression System and the IPEX Impulse Powder Suppression System. 'We believe there is significant potential to explore in this area, especially when it comes to introducing new technologies and products that could help improve fire suppression systems and safety installations across the country,' he said. Nor Hisham also reflected on the longstanding partnership between JBPM and Russia, which began in 1998 with the establishment of JBPM's Air Division and the acquisition of two Russian-made Mi-17 helicopters.

Two men suffer burns in Lahad Datu house fire

The victims, aged in their 20s and 40s, were treated at the scene before being transferred to hospital for further care. Advertisement The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 7.30pm and dispatched a team with one fire engine, two 4WD vehicles and an EMRS unit. Upon arrival, firefighters found a semi-permanent house measuring 60 feet by 60 feet partially engulfed in flames and worked to extinguish it using a 200-foot hose line.
