Pakistan crew barred from disembarking crude oil tanker in Odisha
PARADIP: Amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, security agencies have barred 21 Pakistani crew members from disembarking a crude oil tanker that arrived at Paradip Port on Wednesday.
Hong Kong-flagged crude oil tanker MT Siren II, carrying 1,96,580 tonne of crude oil, docked at the single point mooring (SPM) terminal of the port during the wee hours. Its crew includes 25 members - 21 from Pakistan, two from India and one each from Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Sources said the Pakistani crew has been restricted from disembarking for security reasons. Prior to their arrival, the Immigration department had alerted CISF, Indian Coast Guard, Marine police and Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad to tighten security measures.
After the vessel's arrival, the Immigration department directed all Pakistani crew members to deposit their passports and visas with the office concerned. The documents will be returned after completion of crude oil unloading operations at the SPM terminal.
Jagatsinghpur SP Bhabani Shankar Udgata said all 21 Pakistani crew members have been barred from disembarking for security reasons. A close vigil is being maintained on their movement to prevent any breach of national security, he added.
Security agencies including CISF, Customs department, Indian Coast Guard, Navy and Marine police have been put on alert. The vessel had sailed from South Korea via Singapore before reaching Odisha coast.
Officials assured there is no cause for concern as the vessel is anchored at the SPM terminal, located approximately 15 nautical miles off Paradip coast. 'The Pakistani crew members will remain onboard throughout the unloading process. Once the operation is completed, the vessel will depart immediately,' sources added.
Paradip Port was placed under heightened maritime security during the military tension between India and Pakistan.

Pahalgam Attack: Two held for hiding Pakistani terrorists
New Delhi: National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two men for allegedly harbouring terrorists who carried out the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead and 16 others injured. Officials termed the arrests a "major breakthrough" and said the two individuals had disclosed the identities of three terrorists involved in the attack, confirming that the three are Pakistani nationals and part of the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The duo who allegedly provided shelter to the terrorists have been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote, Pahalgam, and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park, Pahalgam. "Parvaiz and Bashir had knowingly harboured the three armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) at Hill Park before the attack, as per NIA investigations," said one of the officials. The two men "provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists, who had, on the fateful afternoon, selectively killed the tourists on the basis of their religious identity, making it one of the most gruesome terrorist attacks ever". The NIA arrested the duo under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Further investigations in the case are continuing, said officials. The April 22 attack triggered a military retaliation by India against " terror infrastructure " in Pakistan. The Centre said soon after the attack that it had been established that the attack was directed by Pakistan-based handlers and involved Pakistani terrorists who had crossed the Line of Control. Following the attack, India carried out strikes inside Pakistan at sites including the headquarters of the LeT and the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) at Muridke and Bahawalpur, respectively. The air strikes destroyed key terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan as well as training camps and launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes were carried out under Operation Sindoor , which is continuing, according to the government, with more punitive action not ruled out.

Vadodara: A 51-year-old man with a learning disability triggered panic at Vadodara airport on Sunday evening after falsely claiming that he had a bomb in his bag. The incident caused a major security scare and delayed an Air India flight to Delhi by more than 90 minutes, officials said. The man, who was travelling alone and scheduled to take a connecting flight to New York from Delhi, made the claim during a routine security check by CISF personnel. Initially, he stated he was carrying a bomb, but when questioned further, he began laughing and told officials he was "just joking." However, airport authorities followed standard protocol and initiated a full-scale emergency response.
