Monsoon to hit this week, temperature set to drop by 5°C in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: After enduring weeks of persistent heat, the city is set to witness a shift in weather patterns, with India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph at isolated places from June 16.
Meanwhile, widespread rainfall is expected to occur in the state June 20 onwards.
On Monday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 28.2°C, a slight drop of 0.1°C from the previous day, while the maximum temperature stood at 33.7°C. However, a gradual dip of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is expected across the state by mid-week, offering some respite.
According to an IMD official, "A combination of upper air cyclonic circulations and a western disturbance is driving the anticipated weather shift across north India.
These systems are expected to pull in moisture from surrounding regions and trigger atmospheric instability, paving the way for rain and storm activity across Haryana."
Between June 21 and 22, widespread rainfall is likely, with heavy showers at isolated spots, especially in northern Haryana, IMD predicted, adding that wind speeds may range from 30 to 50 kmph during thunderstorm.
With this, along with daytime temperatures going down, soil moisture levels will improve, supporting Kharif crop sowing that already began in parts of the state.

The all-time highest night temperature in June stands at 24.6 degrees recorded on June 29, 1978. At 16.8 degrees, Pahalgam recorded the third highest night temperature ever in June, and at 20.4 degrees, Kokernag also recorded the third highest night temperature ever in the month. Similarly, at 21.1 degrees, Kupwara recorded the fifth highest night temperature ever in June.

Delhi rains: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow alert' for the national capital, as parts of south and south-east Delhi saw light rainfall late last night, according to a PTI report. Today, June 22 (Sunday), Delhi is expected to experience generally cloudy skies, with heavy rainfall. The maximum temperature likely to settle around 35 degrees Celsius, IMD data showed, as per the report. According to the IMD data, Safdarjung recorded 2.6 mm rainfall, Palam 0.4 mm, Ayanagar 0.4 mm and Lodhi Road 0.2 mm, last night. As per the IMD forecast for the week, while Delhi is not expected to experience any further heatwaves, the capital will likely see cloudy skies, accompanied by moderate to light rains for the next five to six days. On June 21, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 26.8 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, as per the Met office. The relative humidity in Delhi oscillated between 61 and 88 per cent during the day, it added. Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained in the 'satisfactory' category for the fifth consecutive day, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 85, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'. Earlier on June 21, the weather department issued a warning for 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' over Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Konkan-Goa from June 21-26. Further, the Met has also issued an orange alert for these eight states in India — Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh.

Heatwave: J&K education dept prepones summer break to June 23

As per the MeT department, Srinagar recorded 34.8 degree Celsius which is 4.6 degrees above normal. Ski resort of Gulmarg registered 25.7 degree Celsius which is 5.7 degrees above normal. Pahalgam recorded 29.6 degree Celsius which is 4.6 degrees above normal. Jammu however recorded lower temperature than Srinagar at 33 degree Celsius which is 4.6 degrees below normal temperature. The MeT office has predicted scattered and intermittent rainfall across J&K from Monday that could bring relief from the heatwave.
