A shooting at a restaurant in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, on Friday (June 13), left one person dead and two injured.
CCTV video footage circulating on social media shows a group of seven men dining at a restaurant when the gunmen pull up behind them on a motorcycle.
Upon seeing them, the seven diners run away in different directions.
Brickfields police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the incident happened at around 10.50pm and the seven men were between the ages 30 to 50, reported Free Malaysia Today.
He said that there were two gunmen in total and both fired several shots at the diners.
"One of the victims was confirmed dead at the scene and his body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem," said Ku.
"Two other victims are receiving treatment at the same hospital. One of them suffered serious injuries while the other sustained minor injuries."
Further investigations are ongoing, including examining CCTV footage, identifying the motive for the incident and the suspects involved.
"There is nothing to alarm the public at this time and the police will investigate this case from various angles," he added.
"Members of the public with information about the incident are advised to contact the police or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation."
A witness told Malay language daily Harian Metro that she was speaking to a customer at her salon located on the upper floor of the same building when the incident happened.
"I was outside the shop, on the upper-level walkway, when I suddenly heard noises like explosions," she said.
"At first, I thought someone was setting off firecrackers, but I couldn't think of any festival."
When she looked towards the restaurant, she saw people hiding under tables.
"That's when I knew something serious had happened," she said, adding that people were running in all directions to escape.
Some also ran into her salon to take shelter as most of the other nearby shops were closed.
"I called the police. I didn't see the gunman, but I saw one of the victims trying to run.
"I believe he had already been shot and was trying to escape. By the time police arrived, the gunman had fled," she said.
She added that this was the first such incident in the area, which is usually calm late at night.

'Does your gun have bullets?' Malaysian man tries to touch auxiliary officer's weapon at Woodlands Checkpoint, gets jail, Singapore News

A Malaysian man has been sentenced to jail after he attempted to touch an auxiliary officer's gun at Woodlands Checkpoint, according to Lianhe Zaobao on Tuesday (June 17). Fazli (transliterated), an SMRT bus driver at the time, had approached an auxiliary officer at Woodlands Checkpoint's bus area around 3.50pm recently. The 28-year-old Malaysian tried to speak to the officer in Malay, which the officer couldn't understand, the Chinese publication reported. Fazli then asked in English: "Does your gun have bullets?" He then reached for the officer's weapon, prompting the auxiliary officer to use both hands to protect the gun, preventing Fazli from touching it. The officer also called for assistance and a second auxiliary officer arrived to help. But Fazli attempted to reach for the second officer's weapon as well in an episode that was captured on security camera footage. Fazli was arrested and charged on two counts of using criminal force to voluntarily obstruct a public servant in the discharge of their duty. On Monday, Fazli pleaded guilty to one count, with the judge taking the second count into consideration prior to making the judgement. Fazli has since been sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment. According to the penal code, a person who voluntarily obstructs any public servant in the discharge of his duties can be punished with imprisonment up to six months, or fined a maximum of $2,500, or both. Car crashes through wall, plunges 3 storeys after accelerator mix-up at KL car park, Malaysia News

A 23-year-old car wash worker sustained serious injuries after an apparent accelerator mix-up caused a car he was washing to crash through a wall and plunge from the third floor of a building at Old Klang Road in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at 5.38pm on Monday (June 16), Bernama reported. The man — an Afghan national — had been washing a Toyota Camry car at the car park of a service apartment. He lost control of the vehicle while attempting to park it after it was cleaned, according to the Malaysian news agency. The car then smashed through a wall before plunging three storeys down, landing on two other vehicles — a Proton Iriz and a Perodua Myvi — parked at ground level. No one was inside the parked vehicles at the time of the incident. The man sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for emergency treatment, Bernama reported.
