Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly ended speculation about his club future, saying he will continue to play at Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr as he also probably also sets his sights on next year's World Cup.
'Nothing is going to change. Playing at Al-Nassr? Yes,' he was quoted as saying early Monday by multiple reports after captaining Portugal to the Nations League title in Munich.
Ronaldo, 40, joined Al-Nassr in 2023 after falling out with coach Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. His current contract is until June 30.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino had recently suggested that Ronaldo could move to a side qualified for the upcoming Club World Cup.
Ronaldo on Saturday confirmed talks but said he won't be at the tournament in the United States.
On Sunday, Portugal beat Spain 5-3 on penalties to give Ronaldo and his team a third trophy, the others being at Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League.
'I have many titles but there is nothing better than winning with the national team,' the five-time Ballon d'Or winner said.
Ronaldo scored the 2-2 equalizer in the 61st minute which eventually set up the shoot-out, but came off in the 88th with an apparant thigh problem. He had also scored the 2-1 winner in Wednesday's semi-final against Germany.
The two goals brought his tally to 138, from 221 caps, which are both world records in the men's game.
Coach Robert Martinez said that Ronaldo had played a 'decisive role' in winning the title, after some had expressed scepticism whether the veteran still had a lot to give.
Martinez has also come under criticism, mainly from the Portuguese media, over not always glorious performances of the team.
Ronaldo named the criticism 'unfair,' and Portugal did indeed impress in Germany with well-executed tactics that stopped the resurgent host team and than also the classy Spaniards around their teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
Ronaldo won the duel of the generations agianst the 17-year-old Yamal on the night but they may meet again at next year's World Cup, a title still eluding Ronaldo.
Sunday's final showed that Ronaldo can still electrify the fans, and the hosting Americans, Canadians and Mexicans are expected to share the excitement in what would be his sixth World Cup.
For Nuno Mendes, the Man of the Match on Sunday with a goal and assist as well as containing Yamal, there is no doubt about Ronaldo's value.
'He helps us a lot. He has a winning mentality. He is a role model.
We are happy to have him,' Mendes said.

Chelsea's Jackson ‘so angry at myself' after red in Flamengo loss

PA Media/dpa Philadelphia Nicolas Jackson apologized after his costly sending-off in Chelsea's Club World Cup implosion against Flamengo. The Senegal striker was shown a straight red card - just four minutes after coming off the bench - for an aggressive studs-up challenge on Ayrton Lucas in Friday's 3-1 defeat in Philadelphia. It came amid a calamitous six-minute spell in the second period in which the Blues also conceded two goals to surrender their half-time lead. It was also Jackson's second dismissal in just four appearances having also been given his marching orders for a forearm crack on Newcastle's Sven Botman in a Premier League match last month. 'I want to say sorry,' Jackson wrote on Instagram on what was a 24th birthday to forget. 'To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. 'Another red card. And honestly, I'm so angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation. 'I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a moment in football that went the wrong way. 'No excuses. I take full responsibility. I'll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. 'Sorry. Sorry, Sorry.' Jackson's moment of madness, in which he forcefully caught Lu cas on the shin, effectively ended Chelsea's hopes of getting back into the Group D contest at Lincoln Financial Field. Enzo Maresca's side were already reeling after Pedro Neto's well-taken 14th-minute opener was cancelled out by Bruno Henrique after 62 minutes and quickly followed by another goal for veteran Danilo. Wallace Yan wrapped up the scoring seven minutes from time, putting Flamengo in charge of the group and potentially making Chelsea's route through the tournament complicated. Defender Marc Cucurella suggested discipline was an area Jackson needed to work on. The defender told DAZN: 'He is young player, he has a lot of quality, he maybe needs to improve this a little bit. We are here to improve, we are not perfect so it is part of the game.' Maresca did not deny the sending-off was damaging, though he tempered criticism by claiming it was not a clear-cut decision. Maresca said: 'Those six minutes completely changed the dynamic of the game. 'I'm not 100% sure that it's a red card compared to the Newcastle one, but it can be and the referee decided it. 'It's a little bit of a bad moment for Nico in these things. He knows very well that both situations were not something good for the team.' Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis, now the manager of Flamengo, backed Jackson to bounce back.

Kane stars as Bayern beat Boca Juniors 2-1

PA Media/dpa London Harry Kane scored one and created another in a 2-1 win over Boca Juniors as Bayern Munich became the first side to beat South American opposition at this year's Club World Cup. Kane, who drew a blank during the German's 10-goal mauling of Auckland in their opening game, produced a smart first-half finish. Boca, roared on by a partisan crowd at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, drew level through Miguel Merentiel's stunning solo effort midway through the second half. However, Michael Olise, who had already had an early effort disallowed, scored what proved to be the winner after Kane's composed pass, with victory sealing Bayern's progress from Group C. Olise had a ninth-minute effort ruled out by VAR following a foul on Boca goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin before Kingsley Coman fired an effort over the bar. Kane opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he reacted fastest to a loose ball in the penalty area and guided a left-footed finish into the bottom corner. Bayern should have doubled their advantage moments later, but Coman failed to get a touch as Serge Gnabry flashed the ball across the face of goal. Kevin Zenon's powerful free-kick had to be punched away by Manuel Neuer as Boca threatened for the first time, while at the other end, Marchesin was alert to prevent Olise rounding him following a swift counter-attack. Zenon shot straight at Neuer from 12 yards after Bayern failed to clear their lines, while at the other end Olise had a free-kick well saved by Marchesin and Kane sent a set-piece narrowly over the bar. After the interval, a Boca break ended with Luis Advincula firing over the bar. Olise spurned another decent opening as he shot straight at Marchesin after Raphael Guerreiro's clever dummy. Kane had an effort deflected behind by Lautaro Di Lollo but Boca grew in presence as the half wore on. Merentiel equalized after 66 minutes with a superb effort, gathering the ball near the right touchline and rounding Josip Stanisic before firing past Neuer. Olise restored the Bundesliga champions' lead seven minutes from time as Kane laid the ball back for the France forward and he drove the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Konrad Laimer looked to have added a third after his composed finish following a neat one-two with Thomas Müller, but the Austrian was flagged offside. There was a slight dampener on the result for Bayern as Jamal Musiala left the field injured.

Madrid hope Mbappe could be back for final group game

PA Media/dpa New York Kylian Mbappe could return for Real Madrid in their final group game of the Club World Cup but head coach Xabi Alonso confirmed the 26-year-old will play no part in Sunday's match against Mexican side Pachuca. The France international was admitted to hospital with gastroenteritis ahead of the team's opening match against Al Hilal earlier this week before being discharged on Thursday. It was originally thought he would miss the entirety of the group stage in the United States but, having made a faster than expected recovery, there are hopes he could feature against Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday. 'Mbappe is feeling a little better,' Alonso told DAZN ahead of the game in Charlotte. 'It will be difficult for him to play against Pachuca. We hope to be able to count on him against Salzburg.' Following his discharge and return to the club's Palm Beach base, the club said: 'Mbappe will continue with specific medical treatment and will gradually return to team activity.' In Mbappe's absence, Real drew 1-1 with the Saudi Arabian side in Miami with replacement striker, 21-year-old academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia, on the scoresheet in the first half. Al Hilal hit back to level before half-time via a penalty from Ruben Neves to claim a point, leaving Group H finely poised ahead of the second round of fixtures. The match saw a debut in defence for new signing Dean Huijsen, who said ahead of the meeting with Pachuca that his early weeks with the team have been a 'dream come true.' The 20-year-old, who lined up alongside fellow debutant Trent Alexander-Arnold in Miami, signed during the brief June transfer window from Bournemouth. 'It's a dream come true for me,' he told the club's website. 'I think every kid dreams of playing for Real Madrid. It's the greatest club in the world and I'm so happy and really proud to be here. 'It's a great group and there's real togetherness in the dressing room. We're thrilled to have Xabi Alonso here as well. 'I think he has loads of good ideas and we're going to have some great years together. We are Real Madrid. We have to win and I think we're going to do just that.' In the other match in Group H, Salzburg face Al Hilal knowing that a win will see them safely through to the last 16.
