Legendary MTV & BET star Ananda Lewis passes away
The post Legendary MTV & BET star Ananda Lewis passes away appeared first on ClutchPoints.
Ananda Lewis, HBCU alumna and legendary television host, has tragically passed away at the age of 52. The news was broken on Wednesday evening by Lewis's sister Lakshmi in a social media post.
'She's free, and in His heavenly arms. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 Lord, rest her soul🙏🏽,' she posted.
Lewis graduated cum laude from Howard University in 1995 with a degree in history. During her time at Howard, she appeared in the music video for 'Baby, I'm Yours,' a hit R&B song by Shai, fellow Howard alumni. Filmed on campus in 1993, she played the love interest of vocalist Carl 'Groove' Martin.
Following her HBCU experience, she became the host of BET's Teen Summit, in which she appeared on the program for three seasons. She ultimately got the call to become a VJ for MTV, hosting shows such as Total Request Live and Hot Zone. She also hosted her own eponymous talk show
In a 2020 Instagram post, Lewis disclosed her diagnosis of stage III breast cancer, explaining that she had avoided regular mammograms due to a fear of radiation. By October 2024, during a roundtable discussion with CNN's Stephanie Elam (a longtime college friend) and CNN anchor Sara Sidner Lewis revealed she had chosen not to follow medical advice to undergo a double mastectomy.
Unfortunately, her cancer had metastasized and progressed to stage IV, as she shared during the discussion. She also noted that she had pursued homeopathic treatments during her journey.
'My plan at first was to get out excessive toxins in my body. I felt like my body is intelligent, I know that to be true. Our bodies are brilliantly made. I decided to keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way. . . . I wish I could go back. It's important for me to admit where I went wrong with this,' she said.
She eventually wrote an essay in Essence in January 2025 urging women to take preventative measures and to listen to their bodies.
'We're not meant to stay here forever. We come to this life, have experiences — and then we go,' she wrote. 'Being real about that with yourself changes how you choose to live. I don't want to spend one more minute than I have to suffering unnecessarily. That, for me, is not the quality of life I'm interested in. When it's time for me to go, I want to be able to look back on my life and say, 'I did that exactly how I wanted to.''

‘16 and Pregnant' star Whitney Purvis denied entry to son Weston's funeral after showing up late: report
'16 and Pregnant' star Whitney Purvis was denied entry to her son Weston's funeral after she arrived late, only to find out that she was not put on the guest list, according to a report. The former reality star's eldest child died at age 16 on June 2 in Gordon County, Georgia. An official cause of death remains unknown. Two weeks after confirming his death, Purvis had arrived at Weston's funeral at 4 p.m., having been told that was the scheduled start time. However, she was turned away at the door when it became clear the ceremony had taken place two hours prior — and her name wasn't even on the guest list, TMZ reports. Sources close to Purvis blame her ex-husband Weston Lewis Gosa for the mix-up, though he strongly disputes her version of events. Instead, Gosa insists he told his ex — with whom he also shares 11-year-old son River — the correct start time, and claims she turned up at 4:15 p.m., by which point the chapel doors were locked. Insiders claim that once Purvis, who appeared on the MTV show in 2009, arrived to lay her son to rest, she was told that the service was over. They alleged that Purvis' side of the family was also denied access to the service. Gosa, for his part, insists that he told Purvis that the viewing started at 2 p.m., with the service commencing at 4 p.m. sharp. He told the outlet that he called his ex a week in advance to let her know about the strict guest list, and further asserted that her mother, aunt and uncle were all in attendance as they arrived at 3 p.m. Just after 5 p.m., Gosa claimed he received angry text messaged from Purvis. In one text, he claims she had called him 'evil' for barring her from their son's memorial service. He further alleged that after Purvis claimed she had not been put on the guest list, he responded with a photo of her name being on there. The services for Weston were held in private 'due to the nature and circumstances of this tragic loss.' Gosa and his current wife, Amy, have purchased a separate urn for Whitney to house some of her son's ashes. Earlier this month, Purvis confirmed her son's death in a heartbreaking post on social media. 'This is so hard to write. My beautiful son, Weston has passed away. He was only 16 years old. Life is so cruel and unfair. I just don't understand,' she wrote on Facebook. 'Oh my baby is gone and I don't know what to do with myself. He was so perfect. This is really my worst nightmare come true.' Purvis had welcomed Weston with Gosa during the first season of MTV's '16 and Pregnant' in April 2009. She went on to welcome River in 2014, however the couple had split shortly after. The reality star went on to lose custody of both her children to their father after she was arrested in 2024 for failing to make child support payments, TMZ reported. Weston Sr., for his part, had several run-ins with the law — including arrests for driving on a suspended license and smashing electronics.

Lizzo admits she tried Ozempic — months after shutting down weight loss drug rumors
All the rumors are true. Pop star Lizzo admitted that she tried Ozempic and other trendy weight loss drugs after denying accusations that she used medications to shed weight. 'It's not easy,' Lizzo confessed during a conversation about Ozempic on Thursday's episode of Trisha Paytas' 'Just Trish' podcast. 5 Lizzo admitted to using Ozempic on the 'Just Trish' podcast. Just Trish Podcast / YouTube The singer, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, said she 'tried everything' to lose weight and ended up focusing on counting calories instead of taking a weekly jab. 'It's just the science for me, calories in versus calories out,' Lizzo added. 'Ozempic works because you eat less food. That's it. It makes you feel full, so if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same s–t.' Paytas questioned how the 37-year-old managed to control her food intake without a shot. The '2 Be Loved' singer credited changing her workout routine and shared that she was no longer vegan or eating plant-based, which she has done for 'like 10 years.' 'When I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats, I was eating a lot of bread, I was eating a lot of rice, and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full, but really I was consuming like 3,000 – 5,000 calories a day,' the artist shared. 5 The pop singer shared that she is no longer vegan. Just Trish Podcast / YouTube 5 Lizzo announced that she lost 16% of her body fat in April. The 'About Damn Time' songstress claimed she now eats whole foods such as beef, chicken and fish to feel full instead of 'putting a lot of fake things in there that wasn't actually filling me up.' Lizzo added meat back into her diet during a trip to Japan. 'I heard the Japanese diet was the healthiest diet in the world,' she said. 'My body was so happy. My body was like, 'more, more please.' And I was like, 'ok, this is what my body likes.' 5 The four-time Grammy winner attended the 2025 BET Awards on June 9. Everybody's body is different.' Lizzo, who heavily promoted body positivity throughout her career, didn't specify which GLP-1 brand she allegedly took or when she tried it. Common GLP-1 drugs people use to drop weight include Wegovy, Mounjaro and Ozempic, which was initially developed to improve blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. 5 Lizzo performing at the Kia Forum in California on November 18, 2022. 'When you finally get Ozempic allegations after 5 months of weight training and calorie deficit,' the singer wrote in an Instagram post in September 2024. Lizzo has been very public about her body transformation, diet and exercise routing on social media in the past, but she would often deny claims that she used a GLP-1 to assist with her weight loss journey. In April, the singer claimed she lost 16% of her body fat in a TikTok livestream by just cutting out 'two to three' Starbucks drinks daily and focusing on a calorie deficit.
