'Their Parents Have Failed': Samay Raina On Young Children Watching His Content

Comedian Samay Raina, after removing his YouTube show amid controversy, shares strong views on parenting and responsibility in a resurfaced podcast.
After facing a wave of criticism over an episode from his YouTube show India's Got Latent, stand-up comic Samay Raina removed all episodes from the platform and promised full cooperation with authorities investigating the incident. Despite the intense backlash, Samay appears to have moved on. He recently announced a fresh lineup of international gigs, signaling a new chapter in his career.
Now, a podcast from January has resurfaced, where Samay can be heard discussing the responsibilities of influencers and drawing a sharp line when it comes to what children consume online. The clip has gone viral for his strong opinions about parenting in the digital age.
'Do you think a person like me has a responsibility to not drink Coke and to not be myself? I drink Coke at home, do you think I should fake it in public places and promote drinking water instead?" he asked health content creator Revant Himatsingka, popularly known as Food Pharmer.
When the podcaster replied, 'Yes, I think it will leave an impression on kids 8-10 years of age," Samay responded sharply, 'If someone as young as eight-ten years old is watching me, then their parents have failed."
He added, 'When I was that age, my father would beat me if I watched television. I didn't watch television then. I never got influenced by all this and I really think he did a great job as a father. So the parents are the ones who need to be responsible and not me. I have to be myself. If I want to influence people to do something, it is just to be honest."
Defending his raw, unfiltered style, the comedian continued, 'There are too many fake people in this world. Public gets depressed when they see someone so perfect, doing and saying all the right things, it attacks your confidence and you start to question yourself, 'Is there anything wrong with me?' Then comes a guy like me, just being myself, drinking Coke, saying wrong things. They be like, 'You know what? It's okay to be me, because this is who I relate to.'"
Earlier this year, Samay found himself in hot water when an old episode of India's Got Latent resurfaced, featuring a disturbing question posed by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia. 'Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?" he asked a contestant. The clip triggered massive outrage, leading to multiple FIRs filed against the panelists.

Naga Chaitanya says he's no longer ‘obsessed' with brands; internet points out he wears ₹41 lakh Audemars Piguet watch

Director Sekhar Kammula's Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh-starrer Kuberaa released in theatres this Friday to a good response. Naga Chaitanya sat down for a promotional interview with his dad Nagarjuna and Sekhar to discuss the film. Talking about working with Sekhar for their 2021 film Love Story, the actor claimed he's no longer 'obsessed' with brands as he was before working with the director. (Also Read: Smitten Naga Chaitanya watches wife Sobhita Dhulipala stuff her face with dosas at Akhil Akkineni's wedding) Chaitanya claimed in the promotional video that Sekhar's ideologies have rubbed off on him, stating, 'When I first met you and worked with you in Love Story, I remember being obsessed with brands like any other young guy. But once I saw you and your friends, I saw the simple life you lead. They know what they want, they know what their happiness is. What else does anyone need? I really observed all of you, you and your gang have saved me a lot of money. I realised I just need to focus on what's needed.' This made Sekhar crack a smile as he replied, 'I am really so happy. Once you question yourself, there's no pressure.' However, people on X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube seemed not to buy Chaitanya's claim of leading a 'simple life'. One person pointed out, 'Meanwhile: Shekar kammula wearing us polo shirt.' Another wrote, 'Buddy owns some of the most luxury cars in the world. Had 2 dream weddings at an expense in which a middle class family will live one generation. His wear designer clothes and shoes. Which expense exactly did he cut? I wonder!' Some even noticed he had expensive watches on both his wrists, writing posts like, 'Telling all this casually wearing an @AudemarsPiguet Royal Oak offshore on the wrist,' and 'Says bro with two watches in both hands?' The Royal Oak chronograph Chay wears is priced at ₹41 lakh. For the unversed, Chaitanya worked in Sekhar's last film, Love Story, which also starred Sai Pallavi. He played a marginalised caste man who falls for a woman battling childhood trauma. The film was released in 2021 and received good reviews.
