Conor Maynard speaks out on paternity scandal in new TV interview

Extra.ie30-05-2025

Conor Maynard has finally broken his silence in his first TV interview since his shock paternity scandal.
Earlier this year the star claimed that he had taken a paternity test that proved he's not the father of a star of the Traitors' baby.
Charlotte Chilton made the bombshell claim in June of last year, saying that Conor was the father of her 'miracle' baby — having previously suffered several IVF miscarriages with her ex-wife. The baby girl, named Penelope, has since been born — with Conor 'ghosting' Charlotte and denying that he's the father. But now, Conor has said that he took a paternity test to confirm that he is indeed not the father.
The 32-year-old singer appeared on ITV's This Morning on Friday, opening up to hosts Alison Hammond and Paddy McGuinness about the scandal.
'It was difficult to remain silent,' he began. Earlier this year the star claimed that he had taken a paternity test that proved he's not the father of a star of the Traitors' baby. Pic: Ken McKay/ITV/REX/Shutterstock
'I was instantly painted as a dead-beat dad. My comments on my social media were all about that.'
When asked why he chose to speak out now, he continued: 'Realistically, one of the main reasons is, now is the right time.
'As you said, the last year has been really difficult and mental health is something I have struggled with for a huge portion of my life. 'And this year has been up there with my battle with it. There have been a lot of things that have happened and a lot of things that contributed to why it has been so difficult.
When asked how it felt to discover the paternity, he added: 'Well funnily enough it wasn't an instant relief. I actually thought I was going to have a massive panic attack the second I found out.
'I think initially a lot of my friends were like, do you want to grab a drink, do something, hang out near your house and we can just talk. I didn't. I just stayed at home with my girlfriend and I tried to stay calm and have a relaxed night. 'It was more confusion not really understanding and feeling like, why did that all have to happen?
'A lot of us had kind of accepted that this had happened and this was the life we were preparing for. So when the result came in I can't even begin to explain to you the feeling,' he concluded.
Charlotte made the bombshell claim shortly after the birth of Penelope, telling OK! magazine that 'he knows' she gave birth. I've not heard anything, I had real torment over whether to contact him when she was here or not.
'And I figured I don't want to speak to him, but he has a right to know. I knew if I didn't reach out people would say I hadn't bothered,' Charlotte added, saying that she also had post-birth anxiety about the alleged resemblance between Penelope and Conor.
'There have been days where I've been in tears because I'm sitting here thinking 'I've got a daughter that looks f***ing identical to you [Conor]'… If [Penelope] wants to walk away from him, that's fine, but she needs to make that decision for herself when she's older, I'm not going to deny her contact if he decides he wants to see her.'
Charlotte appeared on The Traitors in 2024, where she was banished in episode nine. She first met Conor after the show's winner Harry Clarke — who was dating Conor's sister Anna — introduced them at a wrap party.
Charlotte announced her pregnancy in April, and split from her then-wife Laura — claiming Conor was the father in June.

Conor McGregor Ibiza punch eyewitnesses detail what they saw in nightclub

Eyewitnesses have recalled the events that unfolded after footage emerged appearing to show Conor McGregor throwing punches inside an Ibiza nightclub. In the early hours of Tuesday, at Pacha nightclub, The Sun released footage that allegedly showed McGregor appearing to peer down to address an unidentified man in the middle of the dancefloor. Merely moments later, the 36-year-old Irishman appears to throw two punches. The partygoer hit the deck, and onlookers have since come forward to recount their version of the alleged incident. One individual - who saw the whole thing - claimed there did not appear to be any consequences for the former dual-weight UFC champion. "Clearly something's been said to annoy him and he's reacted very badly. The guy seemed to fall to the floor, and his mates came to pick him up and get him away," he told The Sun. "There [didn't appear to be any] consequences for Conor." Another said: "About five people fell to the floor as the guy stumbled back. It was a bit like bowling pins, but the guy was really shaken." They added: "About a minute later, the bouncers came and got him on the back and took him out of the club, because he had annoyed Conor. It was right before close anyway. There was no messing around; they just removed him. Conor left through the garden a bit later; he didn't look very happy." The confrontation occurred just hours after McGregor was spotted on the island with TV personality Katie Price. The UFC star was wearing red shorts, a cap, and sunglasses, and puffing on a cigar. Price shared a photo of the two on her Instagram, captioning it: "You legend," after McGregor tagged her in his own story and wrote: "Forever." Tottenham defender and Austria international Kevin Danso also posted a picture with the former dual-weight UFC champion. Following the alleged incident, McGregor posted a series of updates on social media. On X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: "You won't speak bad about my country and its people and that's ever. Vote McGregor." A few hours later, he shared several photos of himself on Instagram, including one with a group of men and another of himself underneath a photo of Al Pacino from the 1983 film Scarface. It is not the first time McGregor has lost his temper whilst partying in Ibiza. Three years ago, he stamped on a fan's hat after a fan threw it towards him asked for him to sign it while he was celebrating his 34th birthday. McGregor gave the individual a sarcastic thumbs up before throwing insults at the fan. McGregor hasn't stepped into the Octagon since his defeat to long-standing adversary Dustin Poirier back in 2021. He was due to make his UFC comeback last year against Michael Chandler, but had to pull out due to an injury sustained during training. Whether or not the Irish fighter will return to competitive action remains uncertain. However, he has dropped hints of a potential comeback by posting several training videos over recent weeks.

'Impossible' quiz question only 1% can answer despite simple solution

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Do you think you've got what it takes to crack this quiz question? It's been claimed that 99% of people fail to get the answer right, so you'll need to be a quiz master to find the correct solution. Keeping your brain in shape is just as crucial as a regular physical workout, and one of the best ways you can get a good brain training in is by challenging yourself with brainteasers and other tricky puzzles. These quick mental tests not only ramp up your cognitive function but could help fend off conditions like dementia. Plus, there's nothing quite like the buzz you get when you crack a particularly tough challenge. But be warned – this beast of a question isn't for the faint-hearted. It was served up to contestants on the ITV gameshow The 1% Club, where the trivia gets increasingly savage as the levels progress. Starting with questions 90% of people can handle, they narrow down to the terrifying 1% puzzles that are so complex that a whopping 99% of people can't get the answer right. One such question was recently shared on TikTok, in which host Lee Mack posed a devilishly difficult question to the contestants. He asked: "Which commonly used word can go in front of these words to make three new words? SING, BAG, RING." The brain-teasing challenge posed to contestants was to find a single word that could pair with sing, bag, and ring to create three separate new words. However, there's no hint at the word's length, just that it's one we're all familiar with. Are you up for the challenge? This riddle left TikTokers scratching their heads, as seen in the comment section, so don't be disheartened if the answer eludes you initially - it's designed to be a head-scratcher for 99% of us. If you'd like a hint to help you out, try starting with every possible word that could precede "bag". You might instinctively consider "handbag", yet that leads nowhere, with neither "handsing" nor "handring" making sense. If you keep at it, you might just unearth the solution. But watch out - there's a tricky aspect to this puzzle since one of the words requires a change in pronunciation. For those still engrossed in solving it, don't scroll down any further, as we're about to give you the answer! Answer The elusive correct answer is "tea", creating teasing, teabag, and tearing. Often, "tearing" throws people off, prompting puzzled comments like "What's a tea ring?" before they realise their oversight. Some TikTok users were so baffled by this puzzler that they began concocting answers from the examples given. One individual steadfastly believed "bag" was the solution, managing to form "handbag, airbag, and dirtbag" - despite going completely against what was being asked. One person was baffled, remarking: "I don't even understand the question, let alone know the answer." Another chimed in with equal confusion: "Is tea even a commonly used word?" Did you get the answer right? Let us know in the comments!

RTE's comedy drama The Dry begins filming final series

Actor Ciaran Hinds has returned to film the final series of RTE's comedy drama, The Dry. Filming has begun in Dublin on the third and final series. The eight-part series will once again follow Róisín Gallagher's character Shiv Sheridan, a recovering alcoholic navigating life and sobriety within her dysfunctional family. Speaking about the final season, writer Nancy Harris said the final series is set to be 'painfully honest'. She said: "It has been a true joy to see audiences embrace the Sheridan family in all their dysfunctional glory. The third and final season aims to go deeper than ever before… both surprising, funny and (painfully) honest." Shiv was last seen choosing herself over a faltering romance, as her ex-boyfriend departed for Melbourne alone. In the new series, she meets Daryl, a charismatic but unsettling Australian (played by Rick Donald), who unexpectedly reappears in her life at a recovery meeting. Returning cast members include Siobhán Cullen as Caroline, Adam Richardson as Ant, Oscar nominee Ciarán Hinds as Tom, Pom Boyd as Bernie, Moe Dunford as Jack, and Eoin Duffy as Rory. The final chapter promises a deeper dive into the lives of the Sheridans, as a long-buried family secret surfaces and triggers a fresh wave of emotional reckoning. As the family struggles to move forward, Shiv is forced to confront the possibility that the real problem may not be alcohol, past lovers, or her family, but herself. RTÉ's Director of Acquisitions & Co-Productions, Dermot Horan, said the broadcaster was "delighted" to return to the Sheridans' world. He said: "Nancy Harris' scripts are at times funny and at times tragic - and that is why we all feel we can relate to these memorable characters." ITV's Head of Scripted Comedy, Nana Hughes, praised the show's blend of humour and emotion, saying: "Nancy's award-winning writing delivers more of the chaotic mess that is the Sheridan family. I can't wait to see what Paddy and the cast bring to the finale." Executive Producer Emma Norton of Element Pictures added that the team was "thrilled" to be filming the final series, promising "an extraordinary cast" and some "very fun new faces".
