Riley Gaines says Simone Biles 'sold out' young female athletes in heated debate over transgender sports

Yahoo10-06-2025

Former 12-time NCAA all-American swimmer Riley Gaines is speaking out about her 'X' feud with Olympic gymnast Simone Biles over transgender athletes competing in women's sports.
The social media argument began on Friday after Gaines called out a Minnesota high school, whose softball team won a state championship after playing with a transgender pitcher. Gaines, who noted that she was not surprised comments were turned off on the high school's post, said, "to be expected when your star player is a boy."
Simone Biles rebuked Gaines, saying she was "truly sick" and a "sore loser" for her comment, suggesting she should be "uplifting" transgender athletes. Biles also said Gaines should "bully someone (her) own size, which would ironically be a male."
Simone Biles Doesn't Realize What She's Admitting About Trans Women In Her Posts, Riley Gaines Says
"Friday afternoon, I get a notification on my phone," Gaines told "The Will Cain Show" on Monday. "It says, 'Simone Biles tagged you in something on X.' I was overwhelmed with excitement. Like, this is someone I've looked up to. She's a role model for me. [I] was so excited about this until I clicked on the notification and, of course, I had to read it like five times... make sure it wasn't a fake profile. ... It has been the talk of X, really all social platforms, TikTok, Instagram, every article that has been posted. … I believe she truthfully incinerated her legacy with just two tweets this past weekend."
The swimmer says that while Biles' comments on her appearance did not hurt her feelings, she felt heartbroken thinking of young gymnasts, like her teen sister, who has looked up to the Olympic champion.

"That's the people who look up to Simone. That's the platform that she's built and curated and developed. Those people love her," she said. "They admire her and suddenly, again, in one tweet, and I would imagine an aim to be virtuous and inclusive and kind and compassionate, she sold out people like my younger sister. That's how I felt. That's what made me feel heartbroken."
Several of Simone Biles' teammates have reached out to Gaines amid the 'X' debate to share their personal support for the swimmer's stance, she shared with Fox News.
"They believe the intention behind this is that Simone has a new docu-series coming out on Netflix," Gaines told Fox News. "They believe it's an attempt to put her name, her profile, her face, her image back in the public sphere, but again, I think this ultimately backfired on her."
Ultimately, Gaines says standing up for women's sports is not a divisive issue among everyday Americans.
"This isn't a polarizing issue if you can remove yourself from the opinions of the elite. The people who are on the private jets, if you remove yourself from the opinion of Hollywood or elected representation, this truthfully is not a polarizing, divisive issue. It's a unifying issue."Original article source: Riley Gaines says Simone Biles 'sold out' young female athletes in heated debate over transgender sports

Packers' Christian Watson Shares Promising Instagram Video Amid Injury Recovery

Packers' Christian Watson Shares Promising Instagram Video Amid Injury Recovery originally appeared on Athlon Sports. If you've caught any interviews with Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, you have probably noticed how openly he talks about Christian Watson and how much the team values him—not just as a player, but as a person too. It does not matter how many targets Watson gets—his willingness to put on a blocking clinic for the run game is just one testament to how unselfish number 9 is and shows his strong character. Advertisement Watson tore his ACL in the 2024 regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears and should miss the start of the 2025 season. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said he is ahead of schedule in his recovery, which is encouraging. While Watson's dad believes he will likely return in the second half of the 2025 season, there could be a chance he will come back sooner than expected. The possibility of an early return got an extra spark this week when Watson posted another encouraging update in his recovery. Green Bay has historically taken a conservative approach when easing players back from injury, and that is unlikely to change with Watson. Given the seriousness of his ACL tear and how valuable he is to the offense, there is no chance the Packers will rush him back unless they're 100% confident he can protect himself and play without restriction. Advertisement It would be in Green Bay's best interest to have Watson back at full speed just in time for a potential playoff run. Not only does he bring a unique element of speed to the offense, but he was also their best man-coverage beater last year. He is arguably Green Bay's most dangerous offensive weapon, with the ability to elevate both the passing attack and the run game whenever he's on the field. On the other hand, Watson and his camp will likely take a cautious and smart approach to his return. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract, and any misstep could impact his health and hurt his chances of securing a long-term extension with the Packers. Still, both sides should work together to find the best possible scenario—one that protects Watson's future while maximizing his value to the team. Court rules Reggie Bush must pay Lloyd Lake $1.4 million in defamation lawsuit

On Friday, a judge ruled in favor of sports agent Lloyd Lake in a defamation lawsuit against former USC star running back Reggie Bush. Per the judge's ruling, Bush must pay Lake $1.4 million. Lake, of course, was the agent at the center of Bush's improper benefits scandal that lives in USC infamy. As a result of the scandal, the Trojans were handed a two-year postseason ban and lost 30 scholarships over the course of three seasons. Following the news, Los Angeles Times USC beat writer Ryan Kartje offered more details: 'Lake filed the suit against Bush back in February 2023 — along with his parents, Roy and Barbara Gunner — alleging that Bush publicly disparaged and defamed him during a podcast appearance and in social media posts and, as such, violated the non-disparagement clause they agreed upon in a previous settlement,' Kartje wrote. 'The comments, according to Lake and his parents' complaint, 'created a firestorm of vitriol' that saw the Gunner home vandalized with graffiti and left them fearing for their safety. 'The judge's decision this week came more than 15 years after the first explosive lawsuit between the two men was settled. That suit, which Lake first filed in 2007, claimed that he and another businessman, Michael Michaels, had provided Bush and his family with cash, a car, rent-free use of a house and other gifts while he played at USC in 2004 and 2005 with the expectation Bush would sign with Lake and his fledgling sports management company, New Era Sports & Entertainment. The first case was settled in April 2010, just before Bush and Michaels were scheduled to be deposed. But Lake's account of their arrangement, which violated NCAA rules, had already prompted a firestorm, one that ultimately ended in severe sanctions for USC's football program, the vacating of the Trojans' 2004 national title and the return of Bush's Heisman Trophy.' Somehow, there is still new news in this case more than 15 years after USC received its original NCAA sanctions, and nearly 20 years after Bush last suited up for the Trojans. USC fans are certainly hoping that this ruling can bring closure, and that all parties can finally put the scandal behind them.
