WATCH: Silverstar lights up with Cassper Nyovest's hit concert
The West Rand was treated to a spectacular performance by one of South Africa's top and record-breaking artists.
Silverstar recently hosted Cassper Nyovest, who brought his rhymes and rhythm to The Square as many fans from the West Rand gathered to see the show. Known as Mr. Fill Up, a nickname earned because he is one of the few South African rappers to have sold out iconic venues, Nyovest captivated the audience with his dynamic performance.
Cassper Nyovest made history by selling out tickets for his 2015 concert, Fill Up the Dome, held at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg.
This success led him to continue the 'Fill Up' brand with annual concerts in various stadiums, including Orlando Stadium (2016) and FNB Stadium (2017), both in Johannesburg, Moses Mabhida Stadium (2018) in Durban, and Royal Bafokeng Stadium (2019) in the North West.
Born Refiloe Phoolo on 16 December 1990, Nyovest is a rapper, songwriter, entrepreneur, record producer, and amateur boxer from Mahikeng, North West. He is widely regarded as one of South Africa's most successful artists.
In 2014, he founded his own record label, Family Tree Records. Nyovest rose to fame with his debut studio album, Tsholofelo (2014), which included hit singles like Gusheshe and Doc Shebeleza. During the Silverstar event, he performed these hits, energising the crowd with his sharp lyrics and charismatic stage presence. He also performed other platinum-certified songs such as Tito Mboweni.
The concert featured opening acts by local artists, including Seekay, Kingsley Cheeko, Milo and other talented performers.

Sir David Beckham celebrates Prince William's 43rd birthday
David Beckham has warmly honoured his close friend, Prince William, on the occasion of the Prince of Wales' 43rd birthday. The retired English footballer shared heartfelt birthday wishes on Instagram on Saturday, 21 June. David Beckham posted two nostalgic photos on his Instagram Stories. One showed the pair together in Johannesburg, South Africa, back in 2010. Over the image, Beckham wrote, 'Happy Birthday Prince William x.' The second photo captured a moment from the EE BAFTA Film Awards in February 2024, where they shook hands, according to People. Beckham added another 'happy birthday' message, a red heart emoji, and a British flag sticker. This birthday tribute comes just days after Beckham was named for knighthood by King Charles, Prince William's father, on 13 June. The honour recognises Beckham's remarkable career in sport and his significant contributions to British society. King Charles announced that Beckham would receive the knighthood during an official investiture ceremony at a later date. This accolade follows Beckham's appointment as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth in 2003. It also comes a year after he became an ambassador for the King's Foundation in 2024. David Beckham shared a touching moment with his mother at Tony's Pie and Mash in London after the news broke. 'Mum cried when she arrived, cried during lunch and cried when I was leaving, x special moment for us all ❤️,' he posted on Instagram on 16 June. His wife, Victoria Beckham, also paid tribute. She wrote on Instagram, 'David has always been my knight in shining armour. I couldn't be prouder of you.' She praised his dedication to family, country, and work. 'The way you've touched so many lives over the years with kindness and humility speaks volumes about the man you are,' she added. 'Above all else, I'm so, so proud to call you mine. I love you so much xxxx.' Prince William's birthday celebrations extended beyond Beckham's messages. The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, shared a warm Instagram post featuring Prince William surrounded by their puppies. She signed off on behalf of herself and their three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. 'Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies! 🐾,' she wrote. King Charles also honoured his son with a birthday tribute on the royal family's Instagram Stories. He posted a photo of William sitting in a field, captioned, 'Happy birthday to the Prince of Wales!' David Beckham's birthday message from Johannesburg in 2010 will resonate with South African fans. It highlights the long-standing connection between Beckham and Prince William, who have shared moments on the African continent. Chris Brown pleads 'not guilty' in London assault case
American singer Chris Brown appeared in a London court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. The 36-year-old R&B star faces allegations related to a nightclub brawl in London in 2023. Dressed in a dark suit and tie with glasses, Brown stood calmly in the dock at Southwark Crown Court. When asked to enter his plea, he responded clearly, 'Not guilty, ma'am.' The case has drawn international attention, including from fans and media in South Africa, where Brown has a significant following. Chris Brown was arrested last month in Manchester, in the north-west of England, according to IOL. He was released on bail set at £5 million, which is approximately R130 million. The high bail amount reflects the seriousness of the charges. A spokesperson for Brown said, 'Chris is confident the truth will come out during the trial. He denies all allegations and looks forward to clearing his name.' The incident reportedly took place during a nightclub altercation in London last year. The prosecution alleges that Brown intended to cause serious harm. However, Brown's legal team insists the charges are unfounded. South African fans have expressed mixed reactions on social media. Some show support, hoping for a fair trial, while others stress the importance of justice and accountability. Chris Brown enjoys immense popularity in South Africa, where he has built a devoted fan base over nearly two decades. His music, rooted in R&B, resonates deeply with South African audiences, particularly among black middle-class listeners who have long embraced American R&B on radio stations. In December 2024, Brown made history by selling out two consecutive nights at Johannesburg's FNB Stadium. Each night drew nearly 95,000 fans—a remarkable feat that few international artists achieve on the continent. This case highlights how international celebrities can face legal challenges far from home. The court will continue the trial in the coming months. Chris Brown remains out on bail as the court prepares for further hearings. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
