Hugh Laurie's brutal response to podcast host who invited him on as a guest - and the massive disdain he showed for fans of House
A podcast host has shared the brutally honest rejection he received from Hugh Laurie when he asked him to appear on his medically-themed show.
Doctor Mike, whose real name is Mikhail Varshavski, is a family medicine physician who launched a podcast named The Check Up With Doctor Mike.
The podcast has featured a segment where Doctor Mike reacts to old House episodes and debunks what is medically accurate or not.
House saw British actor Hugh, 66, take on the role of the cantankerous Dr Gregory House in the medical drama from 2004 to 2012.
During a new episode with Noah Wyle, who played Dr John Carter in ER, Doctor Mike revealed Hugh's shocking reaction when he was asked to come on the podcast.
Doctor Mike said: 'We invited Hugh Laurie to our show because a lot of folks like when we do House M.D. reacts. And his staff was like oh this is a good fit. We're going to reach out to him and see what he thinks.
'I'm gonna read you quote-unquote what he said. 'He is not interested in opportunities like this, frankly doesn't care about the audience or reliving the show.'
Noah was clearly impressed with Hugh's line, and said: 'That's so baller'
While Doctor Mike added: 'It's just such a direct and honest reply.
Noah reiterated: 'So baller!'
Doctor Mike added: 'Not just that he won't do your show, he just doesn't ever wanna be House M.D. ever again.'
Noah insisted he is much more amenable, and said: 'I'm a gemini, middle child pleaser. I'll answer any question you'll ask me.'
Referencing his part in The Pitt, Doctor Mike said: 'But you do care about the audience. In fact, it's driven you to do this new show and continue season two and continue crushing it, representing for us.
Noah replied: 'I care about certain audiences.'
Doctor Mike asked: 'Okay, and that healthcare audience falls into that mix?'
He responded: 'This was scripted as a love letter to first responders and front line workers to say, we recognise what you guys have been going through.'
Hugh's response doesn't really come as that much of a surprise as he previously told how starring in US medical drama House turned into a 'nightmare' despite him being the best-paid actor on TV.
He was paid a reported £250,000 an episode and won two Golden Globes for his long-running role as curmudgeonly Dr Gregory House.
But he suggested to the Radio Times in 2013 that his huge success became 'a gilded cage', with the actor even fantasising about having an accident just so that he could take a few days off.
While filming the Fox show, Laurie had his car windows tinted to avoid being snapped by phone cameras and stopped buying his own groceries because he 'couldn't stand people photographing the contents of my shopping basket'.
He admitted: 'At this distance it all sounds absurd. Ridiculous! After all, what was I doing other than playing about, telling stories with a very nice bunch of people? What could be constricting about that?
'But the repetition of any routine, day after month after year, can turn into a bit of a nightmare.
'I had some pretty bleak times, dark days when it seemed like there was no escape. And having a very Presbyterian work ethic, I was determined never to be late, not to miss a single day's filming. You wouldn't catch me phoning in to say, 'I think I may be coming down with the flu'.
'But there were times when I'd think, 'If I were just to have an accident on the way to the studio and win a couple of days off to recover, how brilliant would that be?''
The actor lived in Los Angeles while his wife and three children stayed in Britain during his time on the show.
Asked if readjusting was difficult when he returned home after a near eight-year commitment to House, he replied: 'Yes, but probably more so for the family.
'For me it's been a delight to be back with them, to walk the dog, to listen to music and to read. I'm still appreciating and enjoying it.'
Hugh, the former comedy partner of Stephen Fry, said that he might not be physically able to take on such a gruelling role again.
At the time, he told the magazine that he would like a job directing, partly because it would allow him to wear his own clothes.
'If the opportunity presented itself, I'm not sure I'd either want or could physically do it. I imagine sportsmen come to a similar crossroads,' he said of taking a lead role in another major, ongoing series.
'Maybe there'll come a day when (footballer) John Terry says, ''I'm not up for the full 90 minutes any more. I can give you 60. Or perhaps I could just come on in the second half?'' The legs start to go and you realise you're feeling the pain a lot more.'
He said 'some very good' scripts, 'some not so good and others so weirdly like House that you wonder what they're thinking of' were still pitched to him.
He added: 'The big thing is that I'm a decade older than when I got that role. Even then the character was scripted as 10 years younger at 35 - and Fox would have preferred 28, to keep advertisers happy. Now if my name comes up for the lead, there'd be a shaking of heads. 'He could play the dad...''
He said of his future: 'I'd like to do something that involves wearing my own clothes for a while. It's an odd thing to go to work each day and wear someone else's.
'For House I also had a fake wallet with fake money in it, fake keys that didn't open anything and a fake watch that didn't tell the real time. All I can say right now is that there are things of my own I'm developing that I'm pretty excited about.'
Hugh, who has spoken previously about suffering from depression, said that he still expects disaster to strike.
But he added: 'When you assume that the worst is going to happen, you're freed up from any anxiety about the when and the where of it. Not that I'd ever be foolish enough to think I've finally got the hang of this life business,'
The actor, who is gearing up for the release of his second album and set to star in Tomorrowland with George Clooney, said of his Hollywood status: 'One great benefit of not being on TV every week is that people will be a lot less interested in what I have in my supermarket basket. I could even un-tint my car windows - or at least opt for a lighter shade.
'When the ship goes down, the waves very quickly roll over the top of it and attention shifts elsewhere. It's just the natural order of things in TV - in life - and is as it should be.'
In March 2020, Hugh briefly revisited the character to tell House fans what his iconic character would have made of the coronavirus pandemic.
He tweeted: 'I can't speak for House, obviously – no one's written clever words for me to say – but I'm pretty sure he'd tell you it's not a matter of 'solving' Covid.
'This is an epidemic, not a diagnostic problem. We solve it together by staying apart.'
He also praised healthcare workers, saying: 'When this is over, what say we all pitch in and buy health care workers, couriers, hauliers, farmers, millers, grocers, bakers, sewage workers, power workers, teachers, fire fighters and police officers a bottle of something?' he wrote.
He later added: 'Thanks to those who've taken the trouble to tell me that decent pay and conditions for essential workers might be preferable to a bottle of something. Bigger thanks to those who knew that's what I meant.'
Laurie also said: 'Chin up, everybody. This will work. However irksome it is for us, it's much worse for the virus. Picture the little bugger with its nose against the window, whining.'

Jeopardy! contestant loses in ‘brutal' and ‘painful' way as fans ‘would've walked off set!' over unfair show rule
A JEOPARDY! contestant lost in the most 'brutal' and 'painful' way, as fans 'would've walked off set' over an unfair show rule. Jeopardy! challenges contestants to showcase their general knowledge, always phrasing their responses in the form of a question. 4 4 The three contestants wrote their answers to 'U.S National Parks. Much of this 73-square-mile National Park is located beneath the Chihuahuan Desert.' But it was a finish that left fans wanting to 'walk off the set' as they revealed their answers. As host Ken Jennings asked them for their responses, one of the contestants wrote down: 'What is Arches?' It was the wrong answer, leading his $12,000 dollars to plummet to just $2. Next up, the contestant in the middle went for the answer of: 'What is Carlsbad?' Again, it was a wrong answer and so her $13,600 went down to $600. Finally, the last player revealed his answer, which was: 'What is Carlsbad Cavrans?' But he made a small mistake, in what fans have called an unfair show rule. The 'r' was before the vowel, which changed the pronunciation of the word, meaning he lost. Jeopardy! fans demand major rule change to shake up format as show has 'gone downhill' with 'carousel' of one-day champs Ken said caverns with an 'er' they would've taken, because the answer was Carlsbad Caverns. As a result, his money went from $13,600 to $0. As he lost everything, the female contestant who had $600 ended up being the Jeopardy! champion. She looked delighted, if not a little in disbelief, and fans were gobsmacked by the result. Jeopardy! Set Secrets Jeopardy! fans don't see everything behind the scenes from watching on TV. These hidden set features make the show run smoothly: Each podium has a hidden riser so that all contestants appear to be the same height. After each clue is read, signal lights go off around the game board, indicating players can buzz in and respond. Buzz in too early, and you're locked out for .25 seconds. The podiums have a small white light in the lower left corner, which tells Ken Jennings who goes next. Contrary to popular belief, the player with control doesn't have a buzzer advantage on the next clue. To the game board's left is a scoreboard so the players can see their opponents' scores. All contestants must bring three outfits to the studio, but only the host and returning champion change for the next episode. There are wardrobe rules, including restrictions on busy patterns, solid white, purple (like the background), and logos. Five episodes are taped in a single day, and sometimes more. The categories, players (aside from the returning champion), and Final Jeopardy! for a tape day are all drawn randomly to ensure fairness. Female contestants are asked not to wear makeup, which is applied backstage, and don't wear mascara because of sweat. Contestants fill out a questionnaire, and producers select five Q&A topics for the host. Host Ken isn't allowed to interact with the contestants until after the game. Players can request to sit in a chair while competing without question. One person wrote on X: 'I simply would have to walk off the stage.' Others called it the 'most painful final' they'd ever seen on the show, and someone else wrote: 'Really fun, close game, but man that final Jeopardy was an absolutely brutal way to lose. You've got to feel bad for Jacob.' Someone else commented: 'Oh my god. What a brutal ending,' and another penned: 'Oh my god. What a brutal ending.' The brutal ending comes after a Jeopardy! contestant in the UK made history after scooping one of the daytime show's biggest ever wins. In May, viewers watched as hotel receptionist Ben Jones continued the game, competing against Jonathan and Rosemary. From Caerphilly, Ben was already a nine-day reigning champion before his major win. In the final round, host Stephen asked a question based on the category Classic 80s Films. He said: "Matthew Broderick starred in the title role of the 1980s comedy film 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off', directed by this man." Ben, 23, correctly answered: "Who is John Hughes?" His impressive knowledge saw him walk away with a jackpot prize of £64,530 - the largest win for all Jeopardy! series and one of the biggest wins on daytime TV. Stephen congratulated Ben as he brought the curtain down on the last episode of the series. 4

Surgically enhanced Kylie Jenner nearly spills out of top after finally admitting to boob job regret
Surgically-enhanced Kylie Jenner was a busty bombshell in an eye-catching ensemble as she teased a new product for her beauty brand on Thursday. The TV personality, 27, nearly spilled out of her hot pink latex dress as she plugged her latest lip gloss range. Jenner's dark locks were pulled back into a sleek ponytail, preventing any loose strands from falling onto her face. The beauty mogul - who made a shock admission about her breast implants this month - further glammed up the look with mini silver earrings. A layer of mascara was added to her voluminous lashes while a warm blush was worn on her cheekbones for a radiant glow. Earlier this month, Jenner offered a shock admission gave about her boob job on social media. The star responded to a fan on TikTok who had asked the reality star to unveil details about her past procedure. Back in 2023, Jenner admitted to undergoing a boob job when she was only 19-years-old, which had been shortly before she became pregnant with her eldest child Stormi. A social media user named Rachel Leary uploaded a clip to the platform and also typed out, 'help a girl out @Kylie Jenner. i just want to know how to get them to sit like that, respectfully.' The star saw the post and then offered her own response in the comment section of the video. '445 cc, moderate profile, half under the muscle!!!!!! silicone!!! garth fisher!!! hope this helps lol,' Kylie wrote, which prompted the fan to excitedly gush, 'KYLIEEEEE!!! you are the best THANK YOU!!!!' During an episode of The Kardashians in 2023, the reality star opened up about her boob job which occurred when she was age 19. While having a conversation with close pal Stassie Karanikolaou, the mom-of-two expressed, 'You know I got my breasts done before Stormi, within six months of having Stormi, not thinking I would have a child when I was 20. 'They were still healing,' Kylie said, and then added, 'I had beautiful breasts. Just gorgeous, perfect size. I just wish I never got them done, to begin with.' During an interview with Dazed last month, Jenner insisted 'people don't know the half of anything' as she responded to criticism about herself. 'Ninety per cent of the time, whether it's negative or positive, people just don't know the half of anything. So it's hard to take advice from people who don't know you.' Kylie continued, 'I honestly think I'm so used to it, and I just don't really care what people say. 'Also, you know, other people's opinions of me have never affected my personal life, how my friends view me, how my kids view me, how my family views me, or the success of my business.' The media personality said that she is 'not afraid' when it comes to headlines about herself - and has now found 'peace with it.' Kylie is often active on her social media accounts, and will sometimes give glimpses into her family life such as raising her two children. Jenner - who is currently dating actor Timothee Chalamet - shares daughter Stormi, seven, and Aire, three, with ex Travis Scott. 'I think I've found a good balance with sharing the things that I want to share. Keeping parts of my personal life private. I'm just learning as I go, I think.' She began her romance with Chalamet in 2023, and the pair have mainly kept their relationship out of the spotlight. Although the couple recently attended NBA games together to cheer on the Knicks. Earlier this week on Monday, Jenner uploaded a humorous clip to her TikTok page as she showed her daughter Stormi a photo from her 'King Kylie' era - which lasted from 2014 through 2017. During the time, the reality star was known for sporting colorful wigs and bold outfits. She gave her eldest child a glimpse of a snap that had been taken in 2016, which showed Kylie with a blue wig as well as a red T-shirt dress and black thigh high boots. Stormi's eyes widened as she took in the look, which prompted Kylie to ask, 'Why are you so shocked?' And her daughter answered, 'Did you dye your hair in that photo?' Jenner explained it had been a wig and the seven-year-old exclaimed, 'A blue wig with a red outfit?!' The pair agreed that it wasn't the best outfit with Stormi pointing out, 'It's not a good combo.' The mom-of-two added, 'I know.'
