Parth Jindal calls for new manager after India's unacceptable Hong Kong loss
Bengaluru FC co-owner and JSW Sports' Parth Jindal has publicly urged the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to bring in a new head coach following India's dismal 0-1 defeat to Hong Kong in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers on June 10. The result, coming on the back of a 3-0 friendly drubbing by Thailand, has sparked widespread frustration, with Jindal's social media post amplifying the growing discontent among fans.advertisementThe JSW scion didn't mince words in his criticism, demanding sweeping changes in Indian football's leadership and structure. Jindal's reaction reflected the mood of many Indian supporters who have watched the team consistently fall short in key international fixtures despite promises of progress. This is completely unacceptable @IndianFootball - just not good enough under any circumstances - deep introspection needed by the AIFF - this is not what all of us lovers and backers of Indian football have spent our hard earned money and effort to witness - get a manager and a— Parth Jindal (@ParthJindal11) June 10, 2025"This is completely unacceptable @IndianFootball - just not good enough under any circumstances - deep introspection needed by the AIFF - this is not what all of us lovers and backers of Indian football have spent our hard earned money and effort to witness - get a manager and a system that works - it's high time - there is too much effort to see a result like this," Jindal wrote in his post.advertisement
Against Hong Kong, India were undone by a moment of defensive recklessness in injury time. Goalkeeper Vishal Kaith rushed off his line in an attempt to clear the ball but ended up fouling Hong Kong forward Michael Udebuluzor inside the box. The referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty, and Stefan Pereira calmly converted from the spot in the 90+4th minute to seal a famous win for Hong Kong.India, for their part, had their chances. Ashique Kuruniyan squandered a golden opportunity in the first half after being played through by Liston Colaco. But as has often been the case in recent outings, India lacked the clinical edge required to make their dominance count.Head coach Igor Marquez's decision to start without Sunil Chhetri — who had returned from retirement to aid a faltering attack — also raised eyebrows. His replacement, Lallianzuala Chhangte, struggled to make an impact, while the midfield looked disconnected and uninspired throughout. The defeat deepens the crisis surrounding the national team, not just in terms of results but also tactical clarity and team morale. With qualification hopes for the Asian Cup now hanging by a thread, serious questions are being asked of the coaching staff and the AIFF's direction.

Seven Losses In A Row! Indian Men's Hockey Team's Bizarre Run Continues
Last Updated: The Indian men's hockey team lost 3-6 to Belgium in the FIH Pro League, marking their seventh consecutive defeat. The Indian men's hockey team's downward spiral in the European leg of the FIH Pro League continued with a 3-6 loss to Belgium, their seventh successive defeat, in their penultimate round game on Saturday, June 21, in Antwerp. Defender Arthur van Doren opened the scoring for world number three Belgium in the first minute from a PC, followed by Alexander Hendrickx making it 2-0 in the 28th minute with another PC conversion. Forward Dilpreet Singh reduced the deficit in the 36th minute, from a PC as well, and Mandeep Singh equalised in the 38th minute with a field goal. The Indian defence collapsed in the fourth and final quarter, permitting Belgium to score three field goals through Roman Duvekot, forward Thibeau Stockbroekx and van Doren, establishing a 5-2 lead. Defender Amit Rohidas pulled one back for India in the 56th minute via a PC, but Belgium sealed their win against India with a 59th-minute goal from Tom Boon, ending the game at 6-3. Despite earning more PCs, nine compared to Belgium's six, India's dream of bagging a direct berth to 2026's World Cup was shattered after a winless campaign in the European leg. India had suffered losses to the Netherlands, Argentina and Australia. They are eighth in the nine-team standings with 15 points, having bagged just five victories against a whopping 10 defeats. India will face Belgium again on Sunday, June 21, in their final round game. First Published: June 21, 2025, 21:32 IST

"What Is The Language Used...": On Rishabh Pant's Dismissal, Gautam Gambhir's Message Singled Out By Ex-India Star
Rishabh Pant played in his own aggressive style at Headingley as he went past MS Dhoni to become the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter with seven Test centuries. Pant, who completed 3,000 runs during this innings of 134 off 178 balls (12x4s; 6x6s), also has 15 fifties in 44 Tests and averages nearly 44. Pant struck a six off the first ball of the 100th over of India's first innings, clearing the fence off Shoaib Bashir to bring up the milestone. It was his first century since September 2024 when he scored 109 against Bangladesh. In 90 Tests, Dhoni had scored 4,876 runs with six tons and 33 fifties at an average of 38.09 and remains the highest run-scorer as an Indian wicketkeeper-batter in Tests. Pant finally fell on 134 as he was trapped in front of the wicket by Josh Tongue. Ex-India star Dinesh Karthik, commmentating on Sky Sports, wondered whether a message from Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir had a role to play in Pant's dismissal. He even hinted that Pant may have been told to change his batting style. "Also very interesting, when a message was sent out to Rishabh Pant, it curbed his style of play. He was just very carefree with his stroke making, and yet the feeling that a message was sent to tell him to calm down doesn't work for certain players, I guess," said Dinesh Karthik on air. "As a coach, it's completely understandable when you want to get a message across to the batter. But over time, you realise, for certain players, how you send that message becomes very important, what is the tone, what is the language used that gets the best out of the batter." Dinesh Karthik also said that Gambhir needs to realise that his ways need to be different with Rishabh Pant to get the best out of him. "Maybe with Rishabh Pant, it needs to be a different way in which you get things done," said Karthik. Meanwhile, former England cricketer Stuart Broad also hailed Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant's century at Leeds against England in the first Test, saying that "everything was going on" during his innings from "falling scoops" to "run-out chances". Pant's scored a record-breaking and entertaining seventh Test century that had it all, be it his trademark audacity, him falling on the ground after a shot or the bat slipping out of his hands. Speaking on the 'Match Centre Live', the JioStar expert Broad said that the England crowd is really great at appreciating good cricket and the reception that Pant got was "one of the loudest I have heard for an opposition player scoring a hundred in England". "It was really well appreciated, because it was so entertaining. We didn't know what was coming! There were those falling scoops, full-blooded shots, run-out chances... everything was going on. Everything you want as a Test match fan -- patience, leaving, then, a flair shot, putting the bowlers under pressure. The crowd really appreciated everything Rishabh Pant did. Box office - truly a box office innings," he added.

Gill-Pant-Jaiswal Match Massive Feat By Tendulkar-Dravid-Ganguly With Triple Hundreds
Last Updated: Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal matched a 22-year-old feat by Tendulkar, Dravid, and Ganguly, scoring hundreds at Headingley. India Test skipper Shubman Gill, his deputy Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal on Saturday, June 21, matched a 22-year-old feat by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and former captains Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, to become the second trio from India to score individual hundreds at the Headingley. The veterans' centuries then paved the way for a huge Indian victory over England, and the next generation of Indian stars' brilliant effort has given their team a potential shot at a famous win. If anything, the centuries from the youngsters were a statement about India's never-drying batting fountain. 23 years back, the centuries by the veterans and India drawing the Test series heralded a new chapter in the nation's cricketing landscape as it started to wash away the tag of tigers at home. But the task that awaits the likes of Jaiswal and Gill is quite different. India are now a side adept at touring, but they need to step into the huge shoes of some stalwarts who made the side a force to reckon with away from home. Having opted to bat first, India lost Virender Sehwag in just the seventh over. Sanjay Bangar and Dravid then built a 170-run partnership for the second wicket before the former was dismissed by Andrew Flintoff. Dravid and Tendulkar then added 150 runs for the third wicket before the former was dismissed by Ashley Giles. Tendulkar and skipper Ganguly then built a match-winning 249-run partnership before the latter was bowled by Alex Tudor. India declared their innings on 628/8. England began their first innings well, with Rob Key and Michael Vaughan adding 67 runs for the opening stand before the former was dismissed by Zaheer Khan. Vaughan and Mark Butcher then added 42 runs for the second wicket, before the latter was caught plumb by Anil Kumble. England soon found themselves at 185/7 in the 64th over, before wicketkeeper Alec Stewart and Giles added 70 runs for the eighth wicket. Once the latter was dismissed by Kumble, England folded for 273. The hosts were asked to follow on, and after losing Vaughan in the 10th over, Key and Butcher added 48 runs for the second wicket. After Key was dismissed by Kumble, Butcher and skipper Nasser Hussain added 40 runs for the third wicket. After Butcher was dismissed by Sanjay Bangar, Hussain and John Crawley added 32 runs for the fourth wicket, before the latter was dismissed by Bangar. Hussain and Stewart then built a 117-run partnership before the former was dismissed by Kumble. England soon found themselves at 267/7 in the 95th over, before Giles and Andy Caddick added 32 runs for the eighth wicket. Once Giles was run out by Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh, England folded for 309, slumping to an innings defeat.
