Dusit Princess Melaka, a brand under Dusit International, celebrated its official grand opening on May 29, introducing a new standard of upscale Thai-inspired hospitality to the state. The hotel unveiled one of the largest meeting and event spaces in Malacca, enhancing the city's appeal as a regional meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) destination. The hotel's official grand opening ceremony was officiated by Malacca Governor Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam and attended by Thailand's ambassador to Malaysia Lada Phumas and Dusit International chief operating officer Gilles Cretallaz. Suter said Dusit Princess Melaka is raising the bar for hospitality in Malacca by introducing the well-known Thai service standards of the Dusit brand, renowned for its warmth and attention to detail. This approach, Suter said, improves guest comfort and sets a new benchmark for what visitors can expect from hotels in Malacca. Hong Kong singer Tommy Yuen arrested for allegedly stealing snacks worth HK$140
Hong Kong singer Tommy Yuen Man-on has been arrested for allegedly stealing snacks from a supermarket, the Post has learned. Yuen, a former member of the defunct Cantopop boy band E-kids, was arrested on Wednesday after he was spotted acting suspiciously by patrolling officers in To Kwa Wan, police said. He allegedly stole items from a Wellcome supermarket and was carrying a credit card belonging to someone else, a police spokesman said. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting. The case is being handled by the Kowloon City district investigation team. Yuen allegedly took 11 items, including bottled drinks, packets of candy, biscuits and coated peanuts, valued at about HK$140 (US$18). Officers also confirmed that the credit card in his possession belonged to a friend, who was contacted to retrieve it at the police station. Yuen, 45, previously served 26 months in jail for insulting police and officials and fabricating a fundraising story. In May last year, Yuen wrote a Facebook post saying that he had decided to leave Hong Kong after facing weekly contact with national security police following his early release from jail in September 2023. He said the frequent questioning caused him fear and distress, leading him to worry about being sent back to prison. In the May 1 Facebook post, Yuen said: 'I have finally left Hong Kong and started living in the United Kingdom!' The father of two also expressed determination to work hard in the UK and continue pursuing music, creating content, posting on social media and starting a YouTube channel. 'I believe that I won't or won't be able to go back to my beloved Hong Kong any more in my lifetime, as it continues to deteriorate day by day,' he had said. However, he was seen in the city in December. Yuen was arrested by national security police in February 2022, charged within 48 hours and kept in custody until his trial. In a court hearing in July 2023, he admitted to breaching a colonial-era sedition law by insulting police and officials on social media, as well as laundering more than HK$700,000 that he had raised by fabricating a story about a teenager facing a riot trial over her involvement in the anti-government protests of 2019. Thai durian exports soar thanks to enhanced services at China's Youyiguan border
BANGKOK: Thailand's durian exports have seen an increase, following improved services at the Youyiguan border in China, the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) said on Thursday (June 19). Sunanta Kangvalkulkij, the department's director-general, revealed that Niti Pratoomvongsa, Director of the Thai Trade Centre in Nanning, reported that Youyiguan is now one of China's key land border crossings, linking to Vietnam and other Asean countries. It is also the largest land border crossing for fruit imports and exports. The customs procedures at Youyiguan have been continually improved with the introduction of advanced technological innovations. These measures have enhanced efficiency, ensuring smooth passage for trucks entering and leaving the country. The improved services led to a smooth passage for fruit-laden trucks during the Dragon Boat Festival, which took place from May 31 to June 2. Over these three days, more than 8,800 trucks crossed the border, averaging 2,934 trucks per day, an 89% increase compared to previous periods. In May 2025, 4,540 containers of Thai durian were processed at the border, with an average of 150 containers per day. This number has increased to about 170 containers daily due to the randomised inspection procedures by customs. This process has expedited the release of imported durians. "Youyiguan is the busiest land border crossing for Thai durians in China," said Sunanta. "Despite the heavy traffic due to an increasing number of trucks, the modern management system, faster random pesticide checks, and relaxed procedures have allowed Thailand to continue to increase its durian exports to China." The DITP advises exporters to consider alternative border crossings, such as Mohan, Mohan Railway, Hekou, Tianbao, Nansha Port, Dongxin, Pingxiang Railway, Longpang, Hsinchu Port, and Wuxi International Airport, to avoid potential transport delays caused by heavy traffic at the land border crossings.
