'I was fined for spending six hours in a car park - I was only there 20 minutes!'
A DRIVER has blasted a 'disgusting' fine which claimed he had parked for six hours in a car park - when he had been there for just 20 minutes.
Sam Surridge, of Worboys Road, St Johns, was shocked and confused to receive a letter from Euro Car Parks stating he had exceeded the maximum stay at Tybridge Retail Park by several hours and had to pay £100.
The 61-year-old said: "They sent a picture of my van leaving the car park which they say was taken at 4.13pm, but it can't be because my van was in my driveway from 10.45am and throughout the afternoon.
"They said I was there for five hours and 53 minutes when I couldn't have been there for any more than 20 minutes.
"There is no way that photo could have been taken when they say it was taken."
Tybridge Retail Park's car park gives visitors up to two hours of free parking.
Mr Surridge's Ring doorbell caught him leaving his home at around 10am on Saturday, May 31, before returning at 10.45am, meaning he would have been in the retail park for no more than 45 minutes.
Now, he is using his doorbell footage in an attempt to have the parking fine cancelled.
"I have appealed my fine and sent them evidence that my van was on my driveway all day," he said.
"But the worrying part is what if I did not have a Ring doorbell which captured when I left and came home?
"I'm just concerned it will happen to other people."

Euro Car Park, the company that issued Mr Surridge's fine, offers a reduced parking charge of £60 if the fine is paid within two weeks being issued.
However, it took almost two weeks before he received the notice, giving him just three days to pay or appeal before the fine becomes £100.
"I think it is disgusting," Mr Surridge said.
"This is either a system error or it is fraud."
Euro Car Park has been contacted by Worcester News for a comment but had not responded by the time we went to press.

Singer Chris Brown pleads not guilty in London assault case
LONDON — Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty Friday to a charge related to the serious beating of a music producer with a bottle in a London nightclub in 2023. Brown, 36, pleaded not guilty in Southwark Crown Court to one count of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. Brown's friend and fellow musician Omololu Akinlolu, 38, who performs under the name 'Hoody Baby,' pleaded not guilty to the same charge. Prosecutors said Brown and Akinlolu assaulted producer Abe Diaw at a bar in the Tape nightclub in the swanky Mayfair neighborhood in February 2023. Brown allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on Diaw and hit him several times with a bottle and then punched and kicked him. The attack was caught on surveillance camera in front of a club full of people, prosecutors said. Brown was released last month on 5 million-pound ($6.75 million) bail, which allowed him to start his world tour earlier this month. Brown, who burst onto the music scene as a teen in 2005, won his first Grammy for best R&B album in 2011 for 'F.A.M.E.' and then earned his second in the same category for '11:11 (Deluxe)' earlier this year. His hits include songs such as 'Run It,' 'Kiss Kiss' and 'Without You.' His tour is due to kick off June 8 in Amsterdam before starting North America shows in July.

Pro-Palestinian activists break into RAF base and 'vandalise' aircraft
A pro-Palestinian group has targeted an RAF base and damaged two military aircraft in what the Ministry of Defence (MoD) branded an act of "vandalism". Palestine Action posted on X to say it had broken into RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire. In a video shared online, a person can be seen approaching an aircraft on a scooter as music is played. Red paint can be seen on the MoD said: "We strongly condemn this vandalism of Royal Air Force assets. We are working closely with the police who are investigating. "Our Armed Forces represent the very best of Britain. They put their lives on the line for us, and their display of duty, dedication and selfless personal sacrifice are an inspiration to us all. It is our responsibility to support those who defend us." In a statement, Palestine Action -w hich focuses its campaigns on multinational arms dealers and has previously - said it had damaged two military planes at the RAF base, where flights depart on a daily basis for RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, which is used for military operations in Gaza and across the Middle East. The group said two activists "broke into the largest air force base in Britain and used electric scooters to swiftly manoeuvre towards the planes". They said repurposed fire extinguishers were used to spray red paint into the turbine engines of two Airbus Voyagers, while and further damage was made using crowbars. "Red paint, symbolising Palestinian bloodshed was also sprayed across the runway and a Palestine flag was left on the scene," the statement added. "Both activists managed to evade security and arrest." Work is underway to assess whether any damage has been caused, it is understood. No operations or planned movements are thought to have been affected. A senior RAF source told Sky News: "The claims made by the group who broke into RAF Brize Norton show a complete lack of understanding of how the RAF operates and what these aircraft do. "The UK is not supporting Israeli operations and these aircraft have not been used in support of Israeli forces in any shape or form." Ben Obese-Jecty, a Liberal Democrat MP and former army officer, said the breach at Brize Norton was "absolutely staggering". "Given the current heightened global tensions, the increase in activity and the recent exploitation of the vulnerability of Russian airbases by Ukraine, it is incredible that our busiest RAF base could be compromised."
