and violent extremism.
The Montreal-New Delhi Air India 'Kanishka' Flight 182 exploded 45 minutes before it was supposed to land at London's Heathrow Airport on June 23, 1985, killing all 329 people on board, most of them Canadians of Indian descent.
"On the 40th anniversary of Air India 182 'Kanishka' bombing, we honour the memory of the 329 lives lost in one of the worst acts of terrorism. A stark reminder of why the world must show zero tolerance towards terrorism and violent extremism," Jaishankar said on X.

A day ago, he had posted on X that he was on the way from Heathrow in the UK to Cork, and leading an Indian delegation to the memorial event at the Ahakista Memorial.
"On the way from Heathrow to Cork... The dastardly mid-air bombing of Air India Kanishka Flight 182 in 1985 which claimed 329 innocent lives off the Irish Coast remains one of the most inhuman acts of terror in aviation history.
"I was able to pay tribute to the victims at the Kanishka Memorial at Humber Bay Park in Toronto in September 2019 where I also met family members of several victims who had shared their pain and suffering," he wrote.

Dushyant also alleged a major scam within PGIMS, claiming that fake names had been added to the employees' rolls and relatives of senior officers were being paid more than genuine contract workers. He said he will compile a list of such fake entries and write to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), demanding a thorough investigation. Speaking about party affairs, Dushyant said JJP was actively working to strengthen its organisational structure. More than 20 targets were identified under Operation Sindoor
Indian intelligence agencies and defence forces had identified more than 20 terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor, launched in May in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. India carried out missile strikes on nine of them later. According to top defence sources, after the list of more than 20 terrorist targets was drawn up, it was discussed in detail at a meeting of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh with the chiefs of the Army, Air Force and the Navy. 'Markaz Taiba camp in Muridke and Markaz Subhanallah in Bahawalpur were on top of the list from day one of the discussion. At the meeting, it was instructed that the attack should be precise and elaborate,' as per a source. After the detailed discussion, all the options were tabled before Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Not just the planning of attack was discussed but also preparation for Pakistan's retaliation. 'Escalation was expected but it was ensured that only terror installations were targeted. There was no significant damage to the Indian military bases as forces were prepared for the retaliation in advance,' added the source.
