Hosts Qatar to face Italy in opener in FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025

With the official release of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 match schedule, football managers and team representatives shared their excitement for what will be a historic tournament. Set to take place in Qatar (3-27 November), this will be the first FIFA World Cup to feature 48 teams.
'The tournament will be hosted in its entirety in the world-class Aspire Academy, with the final match to be held at Khalifa International Stadium, one of our historic Qatar 2022 venues,' said Rashid Al Khater, Executive Director of Operations of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
Al Khater added: 'This will be more than just a football tournament, as fans will be treated to a festival-like atmosphere where they can enjoy a robust fan zone that meets all their needs as they take in some exciting football matches.'
Hosts Qatar have been drawn into group A alongside Italy, South Africa and Bolivia. The young Maroons will look to improve on Qatar's best performance in the tournament when they claimed fourth place in 1991.
'Having the Under-17 World Cup hosted in Qatar for five consecutive years provides young players with a wonderful opportunity to compete against the best teams in the world. This type of competition will have a great impact on the development of young players and will once again positively reflect Qatar's ability to host mega sporting events,' said Alvaro Perez, head coach of the Qatar under-17 team.
Drawn alongside Qatar are South Africa. For head coach Vela Khumalo, the tournament has the potential to have global impact. The Amajimbos will be making their second appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup after their debut in 2015.
'The tournament is important for the entire world. That is why we were so keen to qualify and participate in competition hosted by Qatar. The World Cup provides us with a platform to interact with teams and players from all around the world, which will undoubtedly have a tremendous impact on the skills and abilities of our players,' said Khumalo.

Qatar spikers beat Australia ahead of AVC Nations Cup quarter-finals
Tribune News Network Doha Defending champions Qatar warmed up with a 3-0 win over Australia in their 'opening' match of the AVC Men's Volleyball Nations Cup in Manama, Bahrain, on Thursday. Qatar won the three sets against Australia 25-22, 25-21 and 25-22 to top Group B. Raimi (13) and Ibrahim (10) stood out for Al Annabi while Flowerday (10) and Pope (3) excelled for Australia. In the quarter-finals, to be played on June 21, Qatar will meet Vietnam while Australia will face South Korea. Standing at number 24 in the FIVB World Ranking, Qatar are also the highest ranked team among all AVC Nations Cup participants. The Aussies are ranked 33rd. Qatar's scheduled opening match in the tournament was to be against Kazakhstan but it cancelled following the latter's official withdrawal. Qatar decided to maintain the pre-set preparation schedule to avoid any disruption to the team's rhythm or mental focus. Both Qatar and Australia had already advanced automatically to the quarter-finals due to Kazakhstan's withdrawal, making the showdown between the two a decisive step toward the title. The knockout stage is set to begin on June 21, followed by the semi-finals on June 23, and the final on June 24, all taking place at Isa bin Rashid Hall in Riffa. This year's tournament features three groups, with most groups comprising three teams each following Kazakhstan's withdrawal, reducing the total number of participating teams to 11. The top two teams from each group will advance to the single-elimination quarterfinals. Team Qatar enters the tournament as the reigning champions, having won the 2024 edition—also held in Bahrain—when the event was known as the Asian Challenge Cup, following a well-deserved victory over Pakistan in the final. Now, the team is looking to build on that triumph and pursue back-to-back continental titles. The newly rebranded competition, previously known as the AVC Men's Challenge Cup, is an annual continental tournament. In light of recent reforms in the Volleyball Nations League, the AVC Men's Nations Cup now assumes a crucial role. It provides national teams not currently participating in the VNL the chance to gain FIVB Volleyball World Ranking points and potentially secure entry into the top-tier global competition. Moreover, the tournament champions will earn a berth at the 2026 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship, a key qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, and one of the routes to the 2027 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship.

Qatari delegation visits Emergency Management Department in Miami
MIAMI: As part of security cooperation and expertise exchange during the 2025 Club World Cup, and in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a delegation from the tournament's security force visited the Emergency Management Department in Miami, Florida, USA. The delegation was headed by Brigadier General Nawaf Majid Al Ali, Assistant Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) for Security Operations, and attended by Brigadier General Jassim Al Bu Hashim Al Sayed, Director General of Communications and Information Systems at the Ministry of Interior and Secretary to the Minister of Interior for Coordination and Follow-up. The delegation was received by Pete Gomez, Director of Emergency Management, and Raed Jadallah, Chief of the Miami Fire Department. They were briefed on the department's work and reviewed the efforts of the tournament security officers assigned to the Emergency Operations Center.

Qatar rapidly advancing transition to e-mobility among MENA countries: PwC report
DOHA: Qatar is rapidly advancing its transition to electric mobility, aligning with its Qatar National Vision 2030 and the 3rd National Development Strategy (NDS3), which emphasizes on sustainability, economic diversification and a technology-driven growth and the plans tailored and carried out in this front have played a pivotal role in steering the country towards a sustainable mobility future, including the Electric Vehicle Strategy 2021 that has set ambitious targets, including EVs comprising 10% of total vehicle sales by 2030 and the rapid deployment of EV infrastructure to support a zero-emission transportation future. This comes in a new report released lately by PwC. The report says that EVs are gaining traction in Qatar and the sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Qatar are projected to climb from 1.1% in 2024 to around 14.4% in 2035 and sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) from 0.7% in 2024 to 9.6% in 2035. The report highlights the Ministry of Transport's key role in spearheading the transition to sustainable mobility with various strategies to support that goal towards a cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally conscious future. The report indicates that thanks to those strategies 73% of public buses in Qatar are already electric, reflecting tangible transformation to green mobility. Additionally, the MoT has had a key role in the establishment of an e-bus assembly plant in the Um Al Houl Free Zone in collaboration between Mowasalat (Karwa) and Yutong, the report says. The 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, the report says, served as a landmark event in demonstrating Qatar's e-mobility capabilities, with over 1000 e-buses providing transportation for fans and visitors, making it the first-ever FIFA World Cup to be held in the Middle East with such a significant focus on electric transportation. By shifting to e-mobility and cleaner power generation, Qatar can curb the rise in CO2 emissions by nearly 5% compared to an entirely internal combustion engine fleet, reinforcing the country's commitment to sustainable, low-carbon transportation. Qatar's commitment to sustainability, paired with attractive green financing options, further strengthens the case for growth in this space and with a projected annual economic growth rate of 4.1% between 2025 and 2029 and a population set to reach 3.2 million by 2030, Qatar is primed for sustainable market expansion. The report highlights serious efforts to install more than 1000 charging stations by 2030 supported by plans for 4000 stations by 2035. The report says Qatar has set ambitious renewable energy targets with solar capacity expected to grow to 5 gigawatts by 2035 and this means Qatar has the potential to fully meet EV charging demand through clean energy. The report says Qatar is investing heavily in developing its e-mobility ecosystem and, in this regard, prototypes of Vim, the first EV to include Qatari intellectual property, were revealed by Ecotranzit in 2023. Additionally, ABB E-mobility, a global leader in EV charging solutions, has partnered with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to open a state-of-the-art service and training center in the Um Al Houl Free Zone, focusing on both theoretical and hands-on training for EV charging infrastructure, the report says. Qatar is a key investment partner internationally with significant investments by the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) in major EV battery manufacturing companies such as SK On, positioning Qatar among the key players in the EV battery manufacturing landscape worldwide. Besides Yutong, adds the report, Qatarâ€s attractive market has already drawn interest from EV manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Porsche and Gaussin. The report lays the groundwork for a future where Qatar is well-positioned internationally in terms of e-mobility with continued efforts to develop localized EV battery ecosystem, qualify national professionals and enhance international cooperation in R&D, paving the way for Qatar to become an exporter of technologies and components of sustainable transportation to Europe and Asia.
