Madisonville's Zach Tow preps UK for Sweet 16 as a walk-on

Yahoo28-03-2025

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Former Madisonville basketball player Zach Tow will forever be known as a Kentucky Wildcat after he made the roster as a walk on.
Tow joined the Wildcats in his junior year and had to prove himself every practice. After a teammate told Wildcats head coach Mark Pope that Tow deserved a jersey, he got one and was even able to wear it on the court during Kentucky's domination of LSU.
Now UK heads to the Sweet 16 on Friday. Tow is excited for the opportunity to prepare his teammates.
Oh it's awesome, I'm definitely excited,' said Tow. 'Definitely a dream come true to be back. We're all feeling so blessed, especially me. This is my first experience with it so I know I'm feeling amazing. I know the team is feeling amazing and we can't, you know, wait to start the game tomorrow. So I think the best thing I can do is just, you know, support the guys, do whatever they need me to do. Do the practice squad and things like that. But at the end of the day be a great teammate, help my teammates out and hope for the best.'
Kentucky plays Tennessee on Friday night at 6:39 C.T.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cason Wallace win their first NBA championship

The entire NBA season came down to one final game on Sunday night when the Oklahoma City Thunder, led by former Kentucky Wildcats star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, met the Indiana Pacers in game seven of the NBA Finals. It would end with the former Wildcats winning their first championships. It was a highly competitive game early on. The Thunder pulled out to an early lead in a back-and-forth first quarter. The Pacers bounced back, however, in the second quarter, and led by one point at halftime. In the third quarter, OKC dominated. Gilgeous-Alexander and Wallace both played a part in them taking a 13-point lead. Then all they had to do was hold on in the fourth for a 103-91 game seven victory to take home the championship. Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 29 points. He also had 12 assists and 4 rebounds. Wallace added 10 points and 3 steals. This is the first championship win for both former Wildcats, and they are the 18th and 19th former Wildcats to have won an NBA championship. Congratulations to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cason Wallace.

'I DID IT!': Ken McPeek Marks Derby-Oaks Double With Tattoo

'I DID IT!': Ken McPeek Marks Derby-Oaks Double With Tattoo originally appeared on Paulick Report. Trainer Ken McPeek made history last year when he pulled off the Kentucky Oaks-Derby double, winning with Thorpedo Anna and Mystik Dan. Now, the veteran Lexington, Ky., horseman has permanently marked the accomplishment — with a tattoo. Advertisement 'I always said that if I ever won the Kentucky Derby, I would get a Tattoo. Derby Oaks Double 2024. I DID IT!!,' McPeek said in a post on X. Some commenters on the post questioned whether the tattoo was real—or if it was even McPeek in the photo. But the trainer quickly shut down the speculation with a follow-up post. 'If you have any doubts, this isn't AI,' McPeek wrote. To further put doubts to rest, McPeek used X's AI tool, Grok, to respond to a now-deleted comment. The tool analyzed the image and confirmed its authenticity, noting that the tattoo celebrated McPeek's 2024 Kentucky Derby and Oaks victories and aligned with verified historical records. No evidence suggested the image was AI-generated. For the most part, the online response was overwhelmingly supportive and positive. Jockey Rajiv Maragh even joined in with a playful question. McPeek was the first trainer to pull off the Oaks-Derby double since 1952, when the legendary Ben Jones achieved it with Real Delight in the Oaks and Hill Gail in the Derby — both ridden by Hall of Famer Eddie Arcaro. Jones also won both races in 1949, and Herbert "Derby Dick" Thompson accomplished the fear in 1933. Advertisement Looking ahead, both of McPeek's stars will return to action at Churchill Downs next Saturday. Thorpedo Anna will aim to bounce back in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis, while Mystik Dan will try to make it two in a row in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster. Both races are 'Win and You're In' qualifiers for the Breeders' Cup Distaff and Classic, respectively. This story was originally reported by Paulick Report on Jun 22, 2025, where it first appeared.
