Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson Wreak Havoc in Die My Love
Cannes isn't Cannes without its big, bold misses. Last year's edition had them in spades: Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, Jacques Audiard's Emilia Pérez, Paolo Sorrentino's Parthenope, and David Cronenberg's The Shrouds, to name but a few. This year, I'm sorry to report that one of them is Lynne Ramsay's breathlessly awaited Die My Love, a searing drama about a woman in the midst of a spectacular breakdown, which stars none other than Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, Sissy Spacek, and LaKeith Stanfield. Given Ramsay's distinctive, highly respected oeuvre—Ratcatcher, We Need to Talk About Kevin, You Were Never Really Here—and the caliber of these movie stars, on paper this seemed to be a prospective Palme d'Or frontrunner, before going onto Oscar glory. In reality, it isn't and shouldn't be.
We meet our two gorgeous leads, Grace (Lawrence) and Jackson (Pattinson), in the dilapidated farmhouse they now occupy. Two former New Yorkers with creative ambitions—she, to write a great American novel; he, to record an album—they have inherited it from Jackson's uncle, who recently passed away, and intend to put all of this new space to good use. They do—but not in the way they expected to. An electric, head-spinning montage zips us forward in time, as they dance together with reckless abandon and have desperate, hungry sex on the floor. Soon, Grace is pregnant, and then their son, Harry, is six months old, as she wonders what happened to them. Now, their previously wild, open, and limitless lives revolve around the baby, and they have begun to drift apart.
As that union erodes, Grace visits the distressed Pam (Spacek), Jackson's mother, who lives nearby and, since her own husband's death, can most often be found sleepwalking down a local highway, rifle in hand. Grace also develops a strange obsession with a biker (Stanfield) who stalks their house. Oh, and she's pushed further to the edge when Jackson brings home an excitable puppy, who barks all night while the baby cries and he continues to sleep soundly.
The conditions are in place for an explosive downward spiral: there are infidelities, followed by an attempt at reconciliation, and then everything goes awry once again in epic fashion.

Ezra Miller considers returning to Hollywood: 'Solitude has been friendly to me'
Two years after Ezra Miller's last screen role and three years after a barrage of legal issues, including criminal charges and harassment allegations, The Flash star is eyeing a return. Though Miller's legal and personal issues came to a head in 2022, the actor had already courted controversy and legal scrutiny when in 2020, a video resurfaced of the actor choking a woman in a bar in Iceland to the ground. In 2022, Miller faced accusations of assault, abuse, and grooming children, and was subject of arrest for disorderly conduct, which led to a string of subsequent arrests, often following physical altercations. Certain charges, like their 2023 burglary charge in the state of Vermont, have been dropped due to plea deals Miller has struck in multiple states. Miller has since apologized for their behavior, noting in a statement provided to Entertainment Weekly that they were in "a time of intense crisis," as well as "suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment." Three years from that period of "crisis," Miller is "really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss." "When you work in this industry," said the actor, who also starred in the Fantastic Beasts trilogy of films, "you will find yourself in deep, deep relation to people who do not give single f--- about you or your well being, at all — not that I don't hold a lot of remorse and lamentation for a lot of things I did and a lot of things that happened in that time." Miss Volunteer America returns to Jackson, meet and greet scheduled ahead of pageant
Miss Volunteer America is returning to Jackson June 18 through June 21 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, with 51 state titleholders competing for the coveted crown and a $50,000 scholarship. Preliminary nights will take place from June 18 through June 20, with the winner being crowned on Saturday, June 21. Each night's event will commence at 7 p.m. Opening ceremonies will take place June 15 at The Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center, starting at 3 p.m. Here, the women will be introduced alongside their state princesses in an event that is free and open to the public. "At the end of the day, they've all put in their time on whatever their talent is, their interview, their platform, because more goes into it than just a girl walking across the stage," Bolton said. Bolton said the pageant has an economic impact on the city each year, driving revenue with more people visiting Jackson. Contestants from each state bring their friends, families, and support systems to stay in Jackson hotels, shop at the stores, and eat at local restaurants over the week-long period preparing and competing for the crown.
