Muscat:Oman has announced that Sunday, June 29, 2025, will be an official public holiday for both public and private sector employees.
The holiday is in observance of the Islamic New Year, marking the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad's migration (Hijrah) to Madinah. This occasion also marks the beginning of the Hijri year 1447.
Authorities extended their greetings to the public, praying for peace and blessings as the new Hijri year begins.

Monday is the first day of Eid Al Fitr
MUSCAT: The Main Committee for Determining the New Moons of the Hijri Months announced that Sunday will be the last day of Ramadhan as the Shawwal crescent moon for the year 1446 AH was not sighted. Accordingly, Monday will be the first day of Shawwal and the first day of Eid Al Fitr. The committee issued the following statement: 'Praise be to Allah the Almighty and may prayers and peace be upon Prophet Muhammad, his family and all his companions. The Main Committee for Determining the New Moons of the Hijri Months convened on Saturday evening, Ramadhan 29, 1446 AH, corresponding to March 29, 2025. The meeting was chaired by Dr Mohammed bin Said al Maamari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MoARA) and comprised: His Eminence Shaikh Dr Shaikh Kahlan bin Nabhan al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman; Eng Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Interior; Ahmed bin Saleh al Rashdi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs; Mohammed bin Salem al Akhzami, Supreme Court Judge; Abdulrahman bin Abdulsattar al Kamali, Supreme Court Judge and Mohammed bin Salem al Nahdi, Supreme Court Judge. The committee received no reports that confirm the sighting of the moon of Shawwal for 1446 AH. Accordingly, Sunday will be the 30th and last day of Ramadhan 1446 AH and Monday March 31, 2025 will be the first day of Shawwal 1446 AH and the first day of Eid Al Fitr. On this auspicious occasion, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs is honoured to extend its warmest congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik praying to Allah the Almighty to grant him good health and well-being and to grant the Sultanate of Oman further prosperity and glory and to shower all Muslims across the globe with blessings and prosperity." — ONA
