Bo Bichette had a home run among his three hits, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reached base five times and drove in three, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8–1 on Wednesday night.
Addison Barger had three hits and a walk, and left-hander Eric Lauer (3–1) pitched five innings to help Toronto improve to 24–13 at home. Guerrero walked in his first three plate appearances, including an intentional pass in the third. He hit a two-run double in the sixth and singled home a run in the seventh.
Arizona arrived in Toronto having won five of six but lost its third straight, its longest skid since losing three in a row in late May. Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (2–4) allowed two runs (one earned) and six hits in 4 2/3 innings, his first losing decision since April 29 against the Mets.
Bichette, who hit a tying home run in the ninth inning Tuesday in a 5–4 victory, connected for the second straight at-bat when he lined Rodriguez's second pitch 418 feet to left. It was Bichette's third career leadoff home run, two of which have come this season. He has 10 home runs this season.
Arizona's Corbin Carroll stayed in to run the bases after being hit on the hand by a pitch in the top of the eighth but exited in the bottom half. Alek Thomas took Carroll's spot in the lineup.
Key moment: Barger and Guerrero hit back-to-back doubles off Tayler Scott in Toronto's three-run sixth. One run scored on Barger's hit, while Guerrero's scored two.
Key stat: The Blue Jays are 27–2 when they score five or more runs.
Up next: Blue Jays RHP Kevin Gausman (5–5, 4.08 ERA) was scheduled to start against RHP Ryne Nelson (3–2, 4.14) on Thursday as Toronto goes for its sixth sweep of the season.

Astros Score Winning Run on a Wild Pitch for a 3-2, 10-Inning Victory Over Angels

Mauricio Dubón scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the 10th inning. Jeremy Peña and Isaac Paredes opened the game with home runs, and the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Angels 3–2 on Friday night. Peña led off the 10th with a single that advanced automatic runner Dubón to third. Dubón scored when Hunter Strickland, who hadn't allowed a run in 14 2/3 innings of his first 13 appearances with the Angels, threw a pitch behind the back of Paredes. Houston closer Josh Hader (5–1) retired the side in order in the ninth, and Bennett Sousa retired three straight batters in the 10th for his second save. Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi gave up home runs to Pena and Paredes for a 2–0 Astros lead. He held the Astros to four hits, striking out nine and walking none for the rest of his seven-inning start. Jo Adell trimmed Houston's lead to 2–1 in the fourth with a 426-foot homer off Astros starter Hunter Brown. Angels rookie Christian Moore, a first-round pick out of Tennessee in 2024, tied it 2–2 with his first major league homer to open the seventh. Tempers flared in the third when Brown hit Angels shortstop Zach Neto in the elbow with a 95-mph sinker. Both benches and bullpens emptied, but no punches were thrown, and order was quickly restored. Key Moment: Astros center fielder Jake Meyers raced to the gap in left-center to make a spectacular full-extension diving catch of Adell's drive with a runner on first base and one out in the bottom of the eighth to preserve a 2–2 tie. Key Stat: The home runs by Peña and Paredes marked the first time in three years the Astros have opened a game with two homers. Jose Altuve and Peña last accomplished the feat on July 24, 2022, at Seattle. Up Next: Astros LHP Brandon Walter (0-0, 1.53 ERA) opposes Angels RHP José Soriano (4–5, 3.54) on Saturday night.

Rafaela hits a tiebreaking homer and Red Sox keep Devers hitless in a 7-5 win over the Giants

Ceddanne Rafaela had a tiebreaking homer among his three hits, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 7–5 victory Friday night over their former star slugger Rafael Devers and the San Francisco Giants. Rafaela connected with a one-out drive over the wall in center against Sean Hjelle (1–1) to give Boston a 6–5 lead in the sixth inning. Rafaela also doubled and scored in the third and hit an RBI single in the fourth to help Boston win for the eighth time in nine games. Devers faced his former team five days after the shocking trade that sent him to San Francisco, going 0 for 5. He got a standing ovation before grounding out in his first at-bat in the first inning and hit a drive to the wall in left-center that Rafaela caught against the wall. Brennan Bernardino (3–2) pitched a scoreless inning for the win, and Aroldis Chapman pitched the ninth for his 14th save in 15 chances. Wilyer Abreu hit an RBI single in the seventh for an insurance run in his first game off the injured list. The Giants scored four runs in the first four innings on a pair of run-scoring double plays hit into by Christian Koss, an error by second baseman David Hamilton, and an RBI single by Mike Yastrzemski on a comebacker off Hunter Dobbins. But the Red Sox took a 5–4 lead thanks to a two-run homer by Hamilton, RBI singles by Rafaela and Roman Anthony, and an error by Koss at second base. Wilmer Flores tied the game at 5 with an RBI single in the fifth. Key moment: The Giants loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth, but Garrett Whitlock struck out Yastrzemski to preserve the 7–5 lead. Key stat: Red Sox relievers combined for five scoreless innings and have allowed no runs in 17 2/3 innings over the last five games.

Clayton Kershaw wins 3rd straight start, Miguel Rojas homers in Dodgers' 6-5 win over Nationals

Clayton Kershaw persevered through five tough innings to win his third consecutive start, and Miguel Rojas hit a two-run homer in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 6–5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Friday night. Kiké Hernández had two doubles and scored two runs, and Shohei Ohtani added an RBI single for the defending World Series champions. Los Angeles has won six of seven, improving to 6–2 on its 10-game homestand. Kershaw (3–0) yielded solo homers by Amed Rosario and Riley Adams but held Washington to five hits and repeatedly escaped trouble. Tanner Scott gave up CJ Abrams' one-out homer in the ninth before finishing his 15th save. Pinch-hitter Luis García Jr. had a two-run double in the seventh for the Nationals, who opened a nine-game Southern California road trip by falling to 3–15 in June. Washington snapped an 11-game losing streak on Thursday. MacKenzie Gore (3–7) gave up a season-high six runs – five earned – seven hits and four walks while pitching into the sixth for the Nationals. He has one victory in his last 11 starts. Hernández doubled and scored in the third when Mookie Betts beat out the relay throw on a potential inning-ending double play. Betts then scored on Abrams' throwing error, and Andy Pages added an RBI single. Adams homered in the fifth, but Rojas' homer chased Gore in the sixth. Bench coach Danny Lehmann managed the Dodgers while Dave Roberts served a one-game suspension after his ejection from LA's loss to San Diego on Thursday. Key moment: After García's two-out double with the bases loaded, Washington had two runners in scoring position when Nathaniel Lowe hit a tailing fly to left. Michael Conforto dove forward and made a dramatic catch. Key stat: The 37-year-old Kershaw has won three straight starts for the first time since April 2023, coming through when the Dodgers' rotation is badly depleted by injuries.
