Paddington is one of world's most famous bears, with his adventures told in the popular books written by author Michael Bond, lots of TV episodes and three huge movies. The loveable star will soon make his debut on a brand new stage. A musical about Paddington Bear, featuring music from McFly singer Tom Fletcher, is set to head to London's West End later this year.Paddington The Musical will launch at the Savoy Theatre on 1 November.
What do we know about the musical so far?
The musical has been created from the Michael Bond books and award-winning Paddington Bear films. It will follow marmalade obsessed Paddington as he travels from his homeland of Peru and lands in London, where he meets the Brown family and finds his new home.
"It's an honour to be entrusted to bring the story of Paddington to life on stage..." said singer and author Tom Fletcher. "This unique and special bear is at the very heart of our nation, and I'm aware of the awesome responsibility we all have in taking on his story."It's beyond exciting, and an absolute dream come true." There are two bars to choose from – Sky Pod and City Garden – where you can sip your cocktail or G&T while watching the sunset, as well as three restaurants within the building. It's a must-visit, although be aware it doesn't come cheap – cocktails start at around £15, while the cheapest glass of wine will set you back a tenner. As well as cocktails you can also make the most of street food vendors serving up fried chicken, burgers and Japanese dishes (at time of writing: the menu changes from time to time). There's also a bottomless brunch on Sundays, and a DJ at weekends spinning timeless classics. You can book in advance if visiting in a group but there's space for walk-ins too. There's also Sunday sessions from 1pm to 9pm which offer DJ sets as you watch the sun go down. Perched on top of the Double Tree by Hilton it's elegant and chic, but it gets very busy so you'll probably want to book in advance. Offering a stunning rooftop escape with breathtaking city views, private greenhouses, and an elegant open-air terrace, it's great for a laid back afternoon with friends. The menu features fruit-forward brambles; Kumquat Old Fashioned; and a Calamansi Margarita with a spiced ancho chili rim. As the sun sets, live DJ sets on Friday and Saturday nights set the mood, making 1864 the ultimate spot for an elevated rooftop experience in the heart of London. Frozen fans can now relive the magic of the West End musical, starring Samantha Barks The Masked Singer winner Samantha Barks' "must-see" film is now available to stream. Samantha famously clinched the title in the sixth series of the popular ITV singing contest in February, with Gregory Porter and Marti Pellow coming in second and third place, respectively. Concealed behind the memorable Pufferfish mask, Samantha delivered a variety of pop and musical theatre classics. Viewers will recall her captivating performance of Chappell Roan's Good Luck, Babe, Teddy Swims' Lose Control, and Don't Rain on My Parade from Funny Girl. In the grand finale, Samantha performed a breathtaking duet with McFly's Danny Jones, belting out Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler, reports Surrey Live. Samantha first shot to fame in 2008 as one of the finalists in I'd Do Anything - the BBC talent hunt for a fresh face to play Nancy in the West End revival of Oliver! Since then, she has graced the stage in several hit musicals, including Cabaret, Chicago, and Pretty Woman. After portraying Éponine in Les Misérables on the West End, producer Cameron Mackintosh selected Samantha to reprise the role in the 25th Anniversary Concert of the show, and in the 2012 musical film. Her rendition of On My Own remains one of the most celebrated performances to date, even making it onto the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release. Most recently, she played Elsa in the West End production of Frozen, which ran from August 2021 to September 2024. Frozen enthusiasts can now experience the enchantment all over again as the stage production, captured at the stunning Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, is available to stream. The acclaimed Broadway and West End musical, which draws inspiration from Disney's hit film, was recorded early last year and made its debut on Disney+ today (Friday, June 20). Samantha takes on the role of the enchanting Queen Elsa, with Laura Dawkes portraying her lively younger sister Anna. Completing the principal line-up are Jammy Kasongo as Kristoff, Craig Gallivan as the lovable Olaf, Oliver Ormson playing Hans, and Richard Frame as the Duke of Weselton. Audiences can expect a dazzling display of music and magic on stage, complete with awe-inspiring surprises and top-notch special effects. In addition to the beloved original songs, the show introduces 12 new musical numbers. In a conversation with the WhatsOnStage podcast in March, Samantha expressed her delight at the prospect of her 20-month-old son, Rafael, being able to see her performance on Disney+. "It's really exciting. It was a really beautiful moment when we found out we were going to do that because you're doing a show like Frozen, which means so much to me professionally and personally," she said. "Having Raffi, I was thinking, 'Oh, he'll never see it'. And then you find out you're going to be filmed for Disney Plus, and it's like, 'Wow, it'll live on forever'. My nieces can watch it everyday and Raffi can watch it if he wants to." The West End production has been showered with accolades, as one theatre-goer exclaimed: "Magnificent is an understatement. I was overwhelmed with emotion at the whole thing, loved every minute." Equally impressed, another remarked: "I was blown away by the West End production. Everything you need to know about West End Live 2025 in Trafalgar Square this weekend: dates, timings and full lineup
Well, it's the right weather for it. The West End's annual free outdoor musical theatre festival West End Live returns right on time for the sunniest weekend of the year. Whether you've been planning your whole weekend around it for months now or you've only just heard of it and think it sounds like a fun idea, here we've everything you need to know. What happens at West End Live? It's basically an outdoor musical theatre concert. Performers from most musicals currently running in the West End – and a few coming to town soon – perform a song or two live, generally in costume, sometimes with full choreography bells and whistles. Where is West End Live? It's in good old Trafalgar Square, in its usual events area. When is West End Live 2025? This weekend: it runs Saturday June 21 11am to 5pm and Sunday June 22 noon to 5pm. Do I need a ticket? Nope, West End Live is free. HOWEVER it is enormously popular, particularly the first couple of hours on the Saturday when most of the really big hitters squeeze in their performance before their 2.30pm matinee. There is no truly great way of guaranteeing a slot here other than getting in early, though obviously Trafalgar Square is an open space and you should be able to hear the songs if you're in the general vicinity. If you want a more chilled out experience come down Sunday or later Saturday afternoon. Will anyone famous be performing? We tend not to know as the shows don't say in advance what songs they'll be doing and therefore who will be performing. However, it has been confirmed that Rachel Zegler will be representing Evita, though we don't know what song(s) she'll be doing (if it's too busy to get in then remember you can see her do 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina' live on Argyll Street just a few hours later). Is there any shade? No! And on Saturday the temperatures are due to go as high as 32 degrees (Sunday should be a comparatively mild 26 degrees). Wear sun cream. Hydrate. Don't be a hero.
