Banker with fear of dolls sues employer after boss left a Chucky toy on her chair
A former banker with a deep-seated fear of dolls has claimed she has suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ever since her boss left a Chucky toy on her chair.
Debra Jones claims in her lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina that her supervisors at Truist subjected her to workplace discrimination and created a hostile work environment - causing her emotional and financial harm.
Jones had already been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, general anxiety disorder, autoimmune disorder and vitiligo when she was hired as a full-time relationship banker in April 2024 in Rocky Mount, according to court documents obtained by DailyMail.com.
She claims she suffered discrimination and retaliation at the Charlotte-based bank due to those disabilities, and the Chucky incident caused her to be newly diagnosed with PTSD.
Chucky is a fictional character in horror slasher films about a doll possessed by a serial killer. The first film, Child's Play, was released in 1988 and numerous sequels have followed.
It all went down in June 2024, during her last week of training, when Jones claims her manager at the time, Matthew Korr, placed 'the doll that kills people' in her chair.
She says Korr 'was aware of her fear of dolls and how her fear of dolls negatively affected her disabilities, as Plaintiff had shared this with Korr when he had invited Plaintiff to his home for a team cookout.'
When he then saw how Jones reacted, Korr allegedly started to laugh.
Immediately after the incident, Jones said she had to be treated by her medical provider - and was placed on eight weeks of medical leave to treat her disabilities.
She finally returned to work in August 2024, and was assigned to a new manager, Jennifer Briley, who said she was aware of the Chucky incident and moved Jones to a different office.
Yet, Jones said her treatment at the bank became worse as she continued to face mockery, and was subjected to unequal treatment related to her job and her workplace accommodations.
'Plaintiff contends that Plaintiff and her coworkers alike were subjected to making some mistakes, but Plaintiff was treated differently than her coworkers when she made mistakes,' the lawsuit asserts.
It also claims Jones had an accommodation to leave work at 3pm three times a week to seek treatment 'for flare-ups that started as a result of the Chucky doll incident.'
But Jones said Briley once told her she would have to work until 4pm.
Then, after Jones said she discovered a fraudulent check, Briley joked that she was 'always fraudulent vigilant' as supervisors started questioning her need for medical leave and aggressively reprimanded her.
By January 29, 2025, the lawsuit says, Tracy Wood - the regional area leader at Truist - told her her accommodation was negatively affecting her coworkers who also needed time off.
'Wood further stated to Plaintiff that Wood did not believe this job was the right fit for Plaintiff and that Plaintiff cannot keep using her anxiety and emotional problems as an excuse,' the federal suit claims.
Jones said she suffered several panic attacks in the aftermath, and was ultimately forced out of her job.
As a result, Jones says she 'suffered and will continue to suffer emotional pain and suffering, inconvenience, embarrassment [and] mental anguish.'
She now argues that Truist bank is liable for the actions of its supervisors and employers - or is at least liable for its negligent supervision, and even though her managers are named in the suit, they are not listed as defendants.
Jones is seeking a jury trial with compensatory damages for her emotional pain, backpay and reinstatement.

The vice president criticized both Bass and Newsom for encouraging a 'crisis' by extending government benefits to illegal immigrants and straining the local public services. He also criticized both leaders for inciting violent riots in response to the president's deportation orders and endangering local law enforcement officials. 'I think it's disgraceful that we've ever gotten to this point,' Vance added. The vice president also ridiculed Sen. 'Protesters also damaged federal buildings and caused the closure of at least one federal building. And a federal van was attacked by protesters who smashed in the van's windows. The federal government's interest in preventing incidents like these is significant.' The Marines were tasked with protecting federal buildings. Last week they detained a man for walking onto the property of a Los Angeles federal building but he was released without charges.

Anti-crime crusader who knocked on mayor's door with horrific props is arrested for attempted kidnapping
A Memphis man has been arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping after approaching the home of Mayor Paul Young armed with a Taser, rope, duct tape and gloves. Trenton Abston, 25, was taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with attempted kidnapping, stalking and aggravated criminal trespass following the incident at Mayor Young's residence. According to investigators, Abston scaled a 10-foot wall in the mayor's gated neighborhood late Sunday evening and knocked on the front door while visibly carrying a concealed object in his hoodie pocket. Young, who was inside with his wife and children, did not answer the door. 'Paul Young reported that he did not know the male and his presence at his door at a late hour wearing a hoodie and gloves put him, his wife and children in fear for their safety,' a criminal complaint filed Wednesday stated. Public and private security cameras captured clear footage of the suspect's face, which helped police 'identify, locate and arrest the suspect,' the Memphis Police Department wrote in a statement posted on Facebook. On Tuesday, police identified Abston as a person of interest. His work manager later confirmed his identity in surveillance footage from Sunday night. After his arrest, Abston consented to a search of his vehicle, where the items in question were recovered, The New York Times reported. Police said Abston also knocked on the doors of several other homes that night, raising concern throughout the neighborhood. According to the criminal complaint, Abston told investigators he intended to confront Mayor Young 'about crime in the city of Memphis.' He also said he had researched Young's address and had driven past the residence several times to confirm it. 'Abston took substantial steps toward the commission of a kidnapping,' the complaint concluded. The Memphis Police Department described the incident as 'an escalating threat to a public official' and underscored the seriousness of the charges. 'We understand the concerns raised by this incident and want to reassure the public that the Memphis Police Department remains fully committed to the safety of all residents, including our city's elected officials,' the department's statement said. 'We take any potential threat seriously and will continue to act swiftly and thoroughly.' Abston is scheduled for a bail hearing on June 23, according to the Commercial Appeal. Clinton donor and lobbyist's chilling threats against Minnesota capitol days after Democrat lawmakers were shot
A Minnesota lobbyist is facing felony charges after he allegedly threatened to shoot people at the Minnesota State Capitol just days after a lawmaker in the state was assassinated and another critically injured. Jonathan Michael Bohn - who has made numerous donations to Democratic causes including Hillary Clinton 's presidential campaign - was arrested on Wednesday after making the threats via text message. The 41-year-old Bohn works as the public affairs director of the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO). He made his first appearance in Carver County District Court on Friday. In court, prosecutors said he had texted someone that he was 'excited to have his gun at the capitol and blow someone's effing face off'. The criminal complaint, seen by KARE11, prosecutors claim he also said that: 'After January 6, I bought a pistol. 'Today I bought 500 bullets. I can't wait to shoot one of you mother******* in the face,' he wrote. Officials said that a search of his home uncovered a firearm and he was placed under arrest. According to the Minnesota House GOP, the text was received by a constituent of Rep. Jim Nash who then reported it to the authorities. The outlet also reported that Bohn cried throughout his first appearance as Judge Eric Braaten set his bond at $1 million and ordered him to not contact the person he had text. Bohn was also ordered to stay at least a half a mile radius away from the Capitol complex. His attorney, John Lesch, said Bohn was engaged in a political argument when he made the comments. Lesch contended that the remarks were inappropriate but didn't mean to convey an actual intent to harm anyone. He told the court that Bohn had been angered by a post that had mocked two of his friends, Rep. Melissa Hortman and Sen. John Hoffman. Hortman was murdered last week alongside her husband Mark, while the same gunman also attempted to kill Hoffman and his wife. Authorities say Trump supporter Vance Boelter, 57, is responsible for the killings, he was arrested late on Sunday night following an extensive manhunt. Boelter was charged with a total of six federal counts - two for stalking, two for murder, and two for shooting and firearms offenses. He already faces state charges, including murder and attempted murder. In a statement, Bohn said: 'I condemn violence in all its forms, and I agree with the calls from public officials and community leaders to turn down the temperature of our political discourse. 'I failed to do that here. I am profoundly sorry that my words have created a distraction during this time of collective mourning. 'This moment demands unity, compassion, and reflection — and I am committed to being part of that healing.' In a bio on the IFO site, it says: 'In the halls of the Capitol, Jonathan is regarded as a well-connected advocate who has worked on a variety of issues leading to legislative victories.' State records say he has been registered as a lobbyist with the firm since 2015, and works in the area of higher education. The IFO is a union that represents thousands of faculty at the seven state universities in Minnesota. He has been placed on leave following the allegations. IFO President Jenna Chernega said in a statement: 'We are monitoring developments closely, cooperating as needed with law enforcement and will continue to keep our members informed. 'As an organization, we remain committed to respectful, values-driven engagement with lawmakers, community partners, and one another – even in difficult moments.' Federal Election Commission data also reveal he has donated Democrat PAC ActBlue numerous times, as well as the Hillary for America campaign.
