APM Offers Amphibious Boat Rides at PMR 2025 Lumut
LUMUT: Set against the scenic backdrop of the sea, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) is offering a unique and interactive experience to visitors of the Perak MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at the Lumut Waterfront.
Departing from the usual static displays, this edition of PMR gives the public a chance to ride in APM's Sealegs amphibious boat - a high-tech New Zealand-made asset capable of operating on both land and water.
Bagan Datuk District APM Officer Capt (PA) Mohd Fazly Mohamad Zawawi said visitors only need to take part in a quiz at the APM booth to receive a coupon for the boat ride.
'We're offering visitors the chance to board the boat from the Lumut public jetty, cruise along the Lumut Waterfront and return to the jetty,' he told Bernama.
Apart from the ride, visitors will also be briefed on the functions of the 7.1-metre tactical vehicle, which was specially mobilised from the Perak APM's disaster asset fleet.
Mohd Fazly said the Perak APM currently maintains two units of the Sealegs boat, which are mobilised during disasters such as floods. The boats have previously been sent to the East Coast and Johor to assist in flood relief operations.
Bernama journalists had the opportunity to take a 20-minute ride on the vessel, cruising along the Lumut Waterfront and catching a glimpse of Royal Malaysian Navy combat vessels and Littoral Combat Ships anchored nearby.
Visitors can also try out rescue tools such as the power cutter, used to slice through concrete and metal during actual emergency operations.
'A total of 90 APM personnel are involved in this programme, including members of the Rapid Response Team (PASPA) from our headquarters. We've also brought in the Alpha Band from Bangi to perform busker-style entertainment,' he added.
Other attractions at the APM exhibition include safety education sessions featuring exotic animals such as snakes, brought in from the APM training centre.
The Perak PMR 2025 runs from 9 am to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday, the event concludes at 6 pm. Government service booths are open from 9 am to 6 pm daily.
With the theme 'Pendidikan Tinggi, Pemacu Negara MADANI', the programme features over 200 services including knowledge-sharing sessions, exhibitions, health checks, advisory services, and various activities for all levels of society.

Bakti MADANI Initiative By UniMAP Supports National Talent Development
KANGAR, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Bakti MADANI programme organised by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) supports the Ministry of Higher Education's (MoHE) efforts to develop top national talent, while also shaping students who are capable of creating opportunities and contributing meaningfully to community development. UniMAP vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zaliman Sauli said the initiative is guided by six Community Development Pillars (S4S), aimed at producing not only knowledgeable graduates but also those with a strong sense of social responsibility. 'This initiative aligns with the UniMAP for Society mission, which focuses on producing graduates who are not just job seekers but contributors to society,' he said during the closing ceremony of the three-day, two-night programme in Kampung Gunung Medan here today. Zaliman added that UniMAP for Society is committed to preparing students to be agents of change, equipped with knowledge and skills that benefit the wider community. Speaking to reporters after the event, he shared that students, in collaboration with UniMAP lecturers, installed five solar-powered streetlights in Kampung Gunung Medan and Kampung Binjal. 'This project was an innovation by students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Technology, carried out in synergy with other departments. It strengthens ties between the university and the community through technology developed within the campus,' he said. Fifty students were also placed with 25 foster families in both villages and participated in activities such as communal cooking, motorcycle servicing, and providing health and wellness advice. 'The programme, held in close cooperation with the Perlis Native Welfare Organisation, successfully gave villagers direct exposure to UniMAP's academic expertise and offerings. 'It also helped raise awareness of the university's role and opened up opportunities for local youth to pursue higher education at UniMAP,' he added.

Terengganu Plans New Enactment To Address Livestock Roaming Issue
KUALA BERANG, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu government plans to introduce a new enactment requiring livestock owners to tag their animals with quick response (QR) codes. State Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry, Food Security and Commodities Committee chairman Datuk Dr Azman Ibrahim said the move was aimed at addressing the issue of roaming livestock, which posed safety risks to road users and caused damage to public infrastructure. He said the QR codes would enable the authorities to quickly identify the owners and take legal action as a deterrent. 'We are taking a serious look at the need for a Ruminant Livestock Control Enactment to regulate livestock activities. 'Currently, we only have local authority (PBT) by-laws which allow livestock to be captured and auctioned, but that's all. We need strict laws to deal with a problem that has been going on for decades,' he said at the Fish Fry Release Programme and the Presentation of Aquaculture Input Incentives in Kampung Temir here today. Meanwhile, Dr Azman said that approximately 346,000 fish and shrimp fry, including freshwater species such as baung, lampam, and kelah, would be released into Terengganu waters this year using allocations from the state government. In addition, he said a total of 596,000 fish fry were released into Sungai Kemaman, Sungai Ibai and Tasik Kenyir from January to June 15, using funds provided by the federal government. 'To boost fishery resources, the state government will begin placing 94 artificial reefs in Terengganu waters starting tomorrow in Pulau Redang. 'The programme introduced several years ago is starting to show positive outcomes, as fish landings continue to increase each year,' he said.
