With the weather warming up and sights to be seen, the Echo have compiled a list of all the river cruises setting off from Southend Pier this year.
Plenty of cruises will be on offer from operators Waverley Excursions and Jetstream Tours to explore the River Thames.
Residents will be able to enjoy day trips on the historic Waverley ship along the River Blackwater, River Medway, and the Thames.
The Waverley trips will return on September 24 and last until October 12.
Meanwhile, Jetstream Tours will offer a variety of different experiences to enjoy.
Rochester Day Trip
With this trip, you will be able to walk the cobbled street of historic Rochester, and see Rochester's historic Castle, and Cathedral.
You will also be able to explore the River Medway, sailing past Chatham Dockyard and Upnor Castle.
Redsand Towers Tour
This cruise will see you go from Southend Pier to the Eerie World War 2 Maunsel Forts, called the Red Sand Towers.
It will take about an hour to reach the Towers, with the boat passing by the Mulbury Harbour (Pheonix unit) and Shoebury Boom before crossing the shipping channel towards the Isle of Sheppey.
Upon return, it will pass via the SS. Richard Montgomery before crossing back towards Southend Pier.
Lunch in Kent
You will be able to venture out to Queenborough to explore Kent and enjoy some lunch.
Those taking off on the cruise will be treated to a fully commentated with information about the history of the Thames, Medway, and Swale.
You will pass close by Sheerness Docks, with the captain able to tell you all about the various cargos handled there.

I'm Wirecutter's Travel Editor. Here's What I Bring to Every Vacation Rental.
Although any decent rental should come with a good coffee maker, that isn't always the case. Sure, you might be lucky enough to discover an OXO Brew coffee maker or a Chemex — or maybe even a Breville Barista Plus — sitting on the kitchen counter. Then again, you might find a Keurig or worse. So pick up a portable, easy-to-use option that makes excellent coffee: the AeroPress Go Travel Coffee Press. This is a slightly smaller, more packable sibling to the original AeroPress single-cup 'syringe.' (Since I'm not a coffee drinker, I'm channeling the advice of my java-dependent partner and colleagues.) You might not end up needing to use it, but it's not extravagantly priced. Over the years, I've constructed a network of audio devices that keep me safely within range of NPR's Morning Edition as I get ready for my day. They include an ancient but beloved clock radio by the bed, a shower radio in the bathroom, and an Echo speaker in the kitchen. Without my usual morning soundtrack, I feel unmoored, and this presents a problem when I travel. So I keep a portable Bluetooth speaker in my suitcase. The one I have now, a bright red JBL Go 4, is waterproof, has good sound quality, and is adorably tiny (the size of two decks of cards glommed together). The bass is nonexistent, but for listening to talking heads and podcasts, that doesn't really matter. No matter what sound system a rental has (or doesn't have), with this little speaker, I can find the stream for my preferred station and listen away. These beach sandals are the same as the women's version but cut a bit wider; we still think they run a little smaller than regular shoe sizes. I don't wear flip-flops much at home, but when I'm traveling, they're a great substitute for the clogs I keep by the door for quick trips to the corner store or back deck. We recommend a couple of models in our guide to beach gear. The Indosole Flip Flops (which come in men's and women's sizes) cost less than $50. And they offer the best combination of quality, discreet looks, packability, and responsible manufacturing from recycled materials. Also, if your destination involves sand and surf, flip-flops are perfect for that, as well. This portable, battery-powered alarm can detect elevated CO levels caused by broken or poorly installed fuel-burning appliances (dryers, water heaters, and the like). It won't detect smoke, though. Any vacation rental should have working smoke alarms. Yet not everyone is aware of the deadly danger posed by carbon monoxide, an odorless gas that can seep into a building via a malfunctioning chimney, water heater, gas stove, or other combustion appliance. Doug Mahoney, who wrote our guide to smoke alarms, suggests packing the First Alert CO710 Carbon Monoxide Detector, a portable alarm from the same company that makes the in-home smoke-and-CO alarm he recommends. Unlike that alarm, however, the CO710 won't alert you to smoke — just to excess levels of carbon monoxide. (It does also display the temperature, though.) Equivalent in size to a stack of three iPhone SEs, the CO710 weighs less than half a pound, so it's easy to slip into a carry-on if you're flying to your rental. (It is powered by a built-in lithium battery, though, so don't put it in your checked luggage.) We recommend having one alarm for each bedroom, and from now on, I won't travel without one. Gourock artist sets out to get people on their bikes after Inverclyde Bothy closes
A GOUROCK artist has spoken about her mission to get people across Inverclyde out on their bikes after the closure of a lifeline local project. Fine arts creator Christine Allan was a volunteer leader with the Inverclyde Bothy until the project's funder, Cycling UK, pulled the plug on its financial support for the initiative earlier this year. Christine admitted she was 'gutted' when Cycling UK axed its funding for the Bothy – but now she is setting up her own venture in a bid to keep cycling on track in the area. (Image: George Munro) Christine, a cross country mountain biker and member of various clubs, said: "I first joined the Inverclyde Bothy when I moved to Gourock with my partner. "It was a great way of meeting people. I have been involved in cycling most of my life, I have taken part in cross country and triathlon. She said: "I started volunteering as a leader, taking groups out on the road from our base at Gourock railway station. It was great and we had so many people involved. The cycling side of the Bothy's programme saw people taken out on safe routes with team leaders, including Christine, giving others the chance to learn to cycle. But until now, nobody has stepped up with a plan to keep the Bothy's cycling legacy alive. Christine has already come up with a plan of action to bring back the cycling side of the Bothy's work, and has spoken to Community Tracks, the bike recycling and refurbishment project run by the Inverclyde Community Development Trust, about making use of their stock of bikes and equipment. Cycling UK confirmed in March that funding for its 'connecting communities' programme had not been renewed, and that six project locations – Inverclyde, Dunoon, Helensburgh, Dumfries and Galloway, East Sutherland, and Caithness – would close by the end of that month. The Bothy was left out of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport's 'People and Places Programme' for this year, which replaced the previous funding model that provided cash to active travel groups such as Cycling UK.

Popular summer cruises return to Southend Pier with new trip to historic town
MORE sightseeing cruises are coming to Southend Pier as a river tour operator has added new summer dates to its calendar. Jetstream Tours, which offers river cruises from the landmark pleasure pier, has announced new dates for its exciting sightseeing adventures. This includes trips to the historic Redsand army forts in the estuary, and quaint fishing village Queenborough. Also new for 2025 is a Rochester day-trip, where visitors can enjoy the town's Dickensian high streets, have a spot of lunch and have a browse in the shops. This day out also allows daytrippers to discover the historic relevance of the River Medway, sailing past Chatham Dockyard and Upnor Castle. Commentary along the way will point out more than just what you can see but allow you uncover relics of the deep, stories of battles and rebuilding. A Jetstream Tours spokesman said: "New dates have now been added to our website for July and August. Limited September also available. "Please check out our website for the dates of your favourite tour." Visit for more dates. Tickets range from £25 to £40 for adults, depending on the chosen trip, and infants go free. There are also OAP and family tickets to take advantage of.
