Ben Johnson is Bears' biggest reason for optimism in 2025

USA Today3 hours ago

The Chicago Bears had another impactful offseason where they're looking to finally turn the corner. They've got a new head coach in Ben Johnson, who's bringing plenty of optimism to Chicago -- and hopes are high for what the Bears can achieve in 2025.
Pro Football Focus' Dalton Wasserman recently examined every NFL team's biggest reason for optimism heading into the 2025 season, and it's no surprise that Johnson was listed as Chicago's. After all, Johnson's resume speaks for itself. He helped establish the Detroit Lions offense into a top unit in the league, made Jared Goff a Pro Bowl quarterback and saw first hand how to lead a team from Dan Campbell.
"Head coach Ben Johnson has rebuilt the Chicago Bears' offense in his vision," wrote Wasserman. "The team's revamped offensive line now includes Joe Thuney, Jonah Jackson and Drew Dalman. They added additional weapons in Colston Loveland and Luther Burrden III via the draft. The onus is now on Caleb Williams to improve upon the 63.5 PFF passing grade from last season. If he does, Chicago could boast one of the league's most dangerous offenses."
While Johnson, touted as the best head coaching candidate in this cycle, will be responsible for leading the entire team, it's his impact on this Bears offense that will play a key role in Chicago's success. In choosing the Bears, Johnson chose quarterback Caleb Williams, who garnered plenty of praise from Johnson last season. Johnson will be tasked with developing Williams, but the pieces are certainly in place.
Johnson's first order of business was fixing an offensive line that got Williams sacked a league-high 68 times in 2024. Chicago quickly overhauled the interior offensive line with the acquisitions of guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, as well as center Drew Dalman.
There's also no question the Bears have a plethora of weapons at their disposal, starting with returning veterans DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet and D'Andre Swift. But that didn't stop them from adding some potential playmakers in tight end Colston Loveland and receiver Luther Burden III in the 2025 NFL draft.
It's clear that Johnson is molding this team in his vision, and the pieces are in placer for Chicago to make a splash as early as his first season.

Bears QB Caleb Williams explains why Packers fans 'suck'

There is no love lost between fans of the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, and quarterback Caleb Williams is adding even more fuel to the fire. During an appearance at Fanatics Fest on Friday, Williams was asked about the fan base he dislikes, and the Packers came right to mind. While there's certainly the rivalry aspect at play here, Williams detailed one experience from when the Bears were celebrating their last-second 24-22 over the Packers in the season finale. Advertisement "After the game, after we won at Lambeau -- 1-0 at Lambeau," Williams said, via Ryan Garcia. "So obviously we tried to do the Lambeau leap -- we actually tried to jump in the crowd where our fans were. They started throwing everything at you, they push you off -- and the Lambeau leap it's a real leap, it's not a little baby jump. You actually have to high jump basically. They're pushing you, pushing your face." Williams also had another bad encounter with a Packer fan on the way to the Fanatics Fest, where he "got run down for six blocks" in his car. While Williams grew up idolizing Aaron Rodgers, he insists he wasn't a Packers fan. And now, safe to say, that animosity towards Green Bay will only grow as he leads the Bears in one of the NFL's most historic rivalries. Williams is off to a solid start against the Packers going 1-1 in his rookie season -- and he should very well be 2-0 if not for a blocked Cairo Santos field goal at Soldier Field. Broncos expected to host fewer fans at training camp during construction

The Denver Broncos are busy building a new world-class facility with hopes of having it completed in 2026. The construction won't interrupt the team's football activities, but it will impact fans this summer. The Broncos had a training camp capacity limit of 3,000 fans last year, but that number will likely be lower in 2025. The team is considering temporary bleachers for this summer's practices with a capacity set below 1,000 fans. Advertisement 'We're coming up with a good plan," team owner and CEO Greg Penner said in March. "We want to be in our facility for training camp, given [that] it's a great place. Teams actually like coming to us for joint practices. It's not going to be perfect this year. We'll probably come up with something where we could accommodate 800-900 fans in some temporary bleachers. We'll have it open. "I don't know the exact number, but we'll have a number of practices that are open to fans, and we'll accommodate them. We really want to make that happen. Again, the intent is for this to only be one training camp where it really affects us.' Last year, Denver announced its training camp schedule in late June with practices beginning in late July and running through mid-August. The team will likely follow a similar timeline this year, but that is yet to be confirmed. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans. Brian Urlacher and Devin Hester Selected to NFL's Best 53-Man Roster of the Past 25 Years

Brian Urlacher and Devin Hester Selected to NFL's Best 53-Man Roster of the Past 25 Years originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A major nod to NFL history just dropped—highlighting the league's most iconic stretch in recent memory. In celebrating the last 25 years of gridiron greatness, a definitive list has been released, shining a spotlight on the league's most impactful players and coaches. And for fans in Chicago, there's plenty to be proud of—two all-time Bears legends earned their place on this elite roster. Advertisement The list in question is the NFL All Quarter Century Team: Best 53-Man Roster, Coaches, released by ESPN analysts Aaron Schatz and Seth Walder. Meant to reflect the best of the best from the modern era (2000–2025), the team captures not just fan favorites but data-backed excellence across all positions. Soldier FieldGetty Images For a city that lives and breathes football, seeing Brian Urlacher and Devin Hester honored among the NFL elite is a badge of honor. Brian UrlacherGetty Images Urlacher anchored one of the most feared defenses of the 2000s—a relentless force who made Sundays miserable for opposing quarterbacks. Over a 13-year career with the Bears, the linebacker totaled 41.5 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, and 22 interceptions. He was named Defensive Player of the Year once and earned five All-Pro nods. Advertisement According to Walder, the Urlacher-led Bears had the third-best defense in terms of EPA per play from 2001 to '12. He also ranked fourth in plus-EPA per game among all players. A stat-sheet stuffer with sideline-to-sideline instincts, Urlacher was the pulse of a defense that demanded respect. Devin HesterGetty Images Hester brought fireworks every time he touched the ball. With 20 return touchdowns and over 11,000 return yards, his career didn't just redefine special teams—it elevated it to must-see TV. Fourteen of those scores came via punt returns—a jaw-dropping number no one has come close to touching. And in 2024, Hester capped off his legacy by becoming the first return specialist ever inducted into the Hall of Fame. From the moment he housed the opening kick of Super Bowl XLI, fans knew they were watching something special. Advertisement In honoring the league's top contributors from the past quarter century, ESPN's list is both a tribute and a time capsule—a reminder of the impact Urlacher and Hester had on the game. And in Chicago, it's a chance to reflect on two careers that still echo through Soldier Field, reminding fans why this city's football history is anything but ordinary.
