Dhanush and Nagarjuna's social thriller Kuberaa has reportedly sold its OTT rights to Amazon Prime Video for ₹50 crore, one of the biggest digital deals of 2025.
Sekhar Kammula's social thriller Kuberaa hit theatres on June 20 and has been on a steady upward climb since its release. Starring an ensemble cast led by Dhanush, Rashmika Mandanna, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Jim Sarbh, the film has garnered widespread appreciation from both audiences and critics, with social media buzzing about its performances, storyline, and relevance.
The film's success hasn't just been limited to the box office. Kuberaa has also sparked significant buzz around its digital release. According to a report by OTT Play, Amazon Prime Video has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights for a staggering ₹50 crore. This makes it one of the biggest OTT acquisition deals in recent times, a testament to the film's strong appeal and the star power of both Dhanush and Nagarjuna.
Interestingly, one of the film's producers recently revealed that Amazon was firm about the June 20 release date, allegedly warning of a ₹10 crore cut from the agreed-upon deal if the premiere was delayed. The incident underlines a growing trend in the industry where OTT giants now exert considerable influence over theatrical release strategies.
Despite modest expectations based on advance booking trends—projected at around ₹7.5 crore—the film surprised trade analysts by pulling in an impressive ₹13 crore on its opening day. Though some considered the figure slightly below par for a multi-starrer of this scale, strong word-of-mouth and positive audience feedback could drive Kuberaa to sustained success in the coming weeks.
With its potent mix of gripping narrative, stellar cast performances, and increasing momentum at the box office, Kuberaa seems poised to become both a commercial and streaming success. Fans who missed it in theatres can look forward to its digital debut on Amazon Prime Video following the film's theatrical run.
According to News18 Showsha review of the film, 'There's nothing that's surprising with Kuberaa. We have a familiar redemption arc for Deepak. We have seen Neeraj's kind in numerous films by A.R. Murugadoss and Shankar. We've seen the naivety and nobility of Deva too. Hence, it is easy to write off Kuberaa as lacking novelty, and one wouldn't be wrong to do so. But one also has the onus of explaining why the film continues to be engaging despite its predictability. The reason is the solid craftsmanship of Shekar Kammula, who creates brilliant drama despite using familiar scenarios."

Fatima Sana Shaikh on casting couch and Me Too in Bollywood: 'It's not like the industry is bad, but lines do get blurred when you have become intimate'

Fatima Sana Shaikh, who is known for her roles in Dangal, Ludo, Thugs of Hindostan and Sam Bahadur, has once again spoken out about the prevalence of sexual misconduct and the casting couch in the entertainment industry. The actress recently shared her views on how things have evolved in the post-Me Too era, and how much further there still is to go. 'There's more accountability now' When asked about being one of the few in Bollywood to address the issue openly, Fatima acknowledged that the landscape has changed. 'I think things have changed. People are much more accountable. They are a little more fearful,' she said in an interview with Humans of Bombay. She noted that most film sets today have designated personnel or units in place to address sexual misconduct complaints before they escalate to police cases. She also pointed out that conversations around these issues are now taken more seriously. 'There is a conversation. There is an investigation... it exists in every industry,' Fatima added. 'The lines are sometimes blurred' Fatima offered a nuanced view of how misconduct can sometimes exist in grey areas, especially when power dynamics or blurred personal boundaries come into play. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo 'You are working with someone, you have become intimate. But then you don't understand, the lines are blurred. Then there is the dynamic of the power,' she explained. While advocating for thorough investigation before passing judgment, she also maintained that the benefit of the doubt is often, and rightly, given to women. 'Because it is a male-dominant industry. And now, after Me Too , women can talk about it... You will be held accountable.' 'I haven't faced this in Bollywood' Clarifying her own experience, Fatima stated that while she has spoken of uncomfortable situations in the past, particularly in her younger years, she has never directly faced sexual misconduct within the Bollywood ecosystem. 'It's not like the industry is bad. Any incident that has happened, it's just been this one little, small-time somebody and some conversation,' she said. She was quick to emphasize that issues like these are not exclusive to film sets. In fact, she pointed out that the problem is equally, if not more, severe in the corporate world. 'Corporate is life when you are together. So there, it's even more rampant... and even more toxic,' she said. Fatima Sana Shaikh recalls when she got epilepsy seizures in a flight: 'I'm lucky that I survived' 'Amazon and Netflix are very specific about Posh training' Fatima praised the preventive measures adopted by major platforms like Amazon and Netflix, revealing that every project backed by them includes mandatory PoSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) awareness sessions for cast and crew. 'Somebody will come from this agency… you will have a meeting with the cast, crew, and all the HODs. You will be told what your rights are, what is appropriate, what is not,' she explained. She added that most reputed production houses now conduct these sessions as standard practice, a move that she believes is a positive step toward safer work environments. 'People are being held accountable for their actions — not only in our industry, but in corporate and beyond. And that is what progress looks like,' she concluded.

Kuberaa box office collection day 2: Dhanush-Nagarjuna film beats Retro at ₹29 crore

Kuberaa box office collection day 2: Sekhar Kammula's Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh-starrer Kuberaa is holding steady at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the film brought in ₹ 29.66 crore net in India on its first Saturday. (Also Read: Kuberaa worldwide box office collection day 1: Dhanush gets his biggest opener globally at ₹ 27 crore) Kuberaa box office collection day 2: Nagarjuna and Dhanush in a still from the Sekhar Kammula film. The trade website reports that Kuberaa collected an estimated ₹ 14.91 crore net in India on Saturday, taking its total to ₹ 29.66 crore. The film brought in ₹ 14.75 crore on its opening day and, despite good reviews, saw little improvement. Kuberaa registered a good occupancy at 60.36% for the Telugu version and is performing better in the Telugu version than the Tamil version. The collections are on par with the ₹ 27.04 crore that Dhanush's previous film, Raayan, collected in two days. Suriya's recent release, Retro, made ₹ 27 crore in two days, but Kuberaa has yet to surpass Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi or Good Bad Ugly and Balakrishna's Daaku Maharaaj. About Kuberaa Kuberaa tells the story of a beggar named Deva (Dhanush) who crosses paths with a former CBI officer, Deepak Tej (Nagarjuna), in an encounter that changes his life. Along the way, he also meets Sameera (Rashmika), a woman stranded in Mumbai and looking for a way out. Jim plays the corrupt CEO of a rich corporation called Neeraj Mitra. Suniel Narang, Puskur Ram Mohan Rao and Ajay Kaikala have produced the film under Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations. Talking at a success meet after the release of Kuberaa, Nagarjuna claimed he was the 'main character' and said, 'Through this film, I am the main character in the film and everything else revolves around me. The screen space I got might be different, but that is not a criterion for me. This is Deepak's film, right from start to end, and that is how Sekhar also told it when he narrated it to me. My arc is also likewise that, which is why I liked it.'
