PM Modi to inaugurate, lay foundation of key infra projects in Kanpur on Friday
LUCKNOW: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kanpur to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a series of development projects worth several thousand crores on Friday.
A key highlight of PM's Kanpur visit will be the inauguration and laying of the foundation stone for five units of Khurja, Obra, and Jawaharpur Thermal Power Plants. All the power projects will significantly spruce up the power infrastructure in the state.
The PM is expected to address a public rally at Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) ground. In preparation for the Prime Minister's visit, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an on-site inspection, on Wednesday, and reviewed the venue's readiness with senior officials.
Another highlight of PM's visit will be inauguration of a crucial section of Kanpur Metro Rail Project. The newly-completed stretch from Chunniganj Metro Station to Kanpur Central Metro Station, constructed at a cost of over Rs 2,120 crore, comprises 14 planned stations including five newly-built underground stations.

Govt begins construction of 39 CM composite schools
Lucknow: To modernise and make education inclusive, the state govt has begun the establishment of Chief Minister Composite Schools in 39 districts. "In addition to these 39 schools, the govt will soon begin construction in 10 more CM Composite Schools. For the remaining 26 districts, financial approvals and land selection processes are in their final stages," a govt spokesperson said. The govt earlier announced that each district will have a CM Composite School. Currently, all necessary approvals — including financial sanctions and land allocation — are obtained for the 39 districts where construction is either underway or about to begin. "These modern schools are being built on 5-10 acres of land, with each costing around Rs 30 crore. Six major agencies have been roped in to expedite the construction work," said a govt spokesperson. "These schools will focus not only on quality education but also on skill development, sports, facilities, and student safety. Each school will have 30 smart classrooms, a digital library, a computer lab, modern science labs, a mini stadium, and a large playground," he said.

Ensure stern action against those encroaching land: CM
Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday directed officials to take stern action against land mafia and encroachers and said that such people should not be spared. The CM issued the directives during the 'janata darshan' programme in Gorakhpur where he listened to the problems of nearly 200 people and assured them prompt and time-bound resolution of their grievances. A significant number of complaints pertained to land encroachments. Asking officials to take immediate action on all complaints, he warned that any delay in redressal would not be tolerated. "Land belonging to the poor should be freed from encroachment and strict legal action should be taken against land mafia, in line with the state's zero-tolerance policy. Those who illegally occupy land or displace the weak must not be spared," Yogi said. Several people sought financial assistance for medical treatment. Yogi assured them of full govt support and asked the officials to examine their documents and speed up financial assistance. The CM turned emotional after coming across a wheelchair-bound man and assured his family that lack of funds would not be a problem and proper treatment would be provided to the patient. Domestically made solar panels cost doubles, raises project cost
Jaipur: Farmers installing solar plants to irrigate their land feel cheated as the increasing prices of domestically made panels nullify the subsidy provided by the central and state govts. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Prices of solar panels made in the country currently command Rs 28 a watt compared to about Rs 14 for the assembled panels, which are made of imported solar cells. With the rising cost, the impact of the 60% subsidy provided by the Union and the state govt (30% each) reduces the benefits by up to 50%. As a result, farmers said that a 5-kW plant, which required about Rs 2.7 lakh investment, will now need Rs 4 lakh. These projects are mandated to use Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) panels to be eligible for the subsidies. Disappointed with the higher panel rates, a farmer in a social media post even accused the govt of corruption as the benefits promised under the subsidy scheme are not available to him. The shortage of DCR panels has been jacking up prices in India for a long time, forcing vendors to delay project implementation. They accuse the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of rolling out schemes with mandatory use of DCR panels without having an adequate supply. "It is benefitting a few manufacturers who are into the production of DCR modules. If the country does not have enough capacity, then the stipulation should be removed for the smooth implementation of the projects," said a vendor preferring anonymity. In DCR modules, solar cells need to be manufactured in India. But the country currently does not have enough cell production capacity. The majority of panel manufacturing volume is made of imported solar cells. The govt has made the DCR mandatory for certain projects, including Kusum and PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Delay in availability risks pushing deadlines further for achieving targets set by MNRE.
