New York Giants legend Bill Parcells to be inducted into Patriots Hall of Fame
Legendary New York Giants head coach Bill Parcells will soon add to the long list of honors that currently line his resume.
In addition to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Giants Ring of Honor, Parcells will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Saturday, September 20 at 4:00 p.m. ET on the Patriot Place Plaza.
Parcells served as head coach of the Patriots from 1993 to 1996, helping restore credibility and competitive success to a struggling franchise. Inheriting a team that had gone 14-50 over the previous four seasons, including an NFL worst 2-14 season in 1992 and 1-15 season in 1990, Parcells made an immediate impact. In 1994, he led the Patriots on a season-ending seven-game win streak to secure their first playoff berth in eight years. The performance earned Parcells NFL Coach of the Year honors. After finishing 6-10 in 1995, the Patriots rebounded with an 11-win season in 1996, tying the then franchise record for wins and earning their first division title in a decade. After a convincing, 28-3, victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional playoff game in foggy Foxborough, the Patriots hosted their first AFC Championship game and defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 20-6, to reach Super Bowl XXXI, marking just the second Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
Parcells was a Patriots Hall of Fame finalist five times (2011, 2012, 2014, 2020 and 2023) before his 2025 induction. A Pro Football Hall of Famer (Class of 2013), Parcells is the only head coach in NFL history to lead four different teams to the playoffs and three different teams to a conference championship game. He is also a member of the Patriots 1990s All-Decade Team.
Although Parcells' career success transcends what he did with the Giants, he is most well-known for his time as linebackers coach (1981-1982), defensive coordinator (1979, 1981-1982), and head coach (1983-1991) of Big Blue.
During his time with the Giants, Parcells led the team to two Super Bowl championships, including their first ever (1986). He was also named Pro Football Weekly NFL Coach of the Year, The Sporting News NFL Coach of the Year, and AP NFL Coach of the Year that season.
Parcells will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame alongside wide receiver Julian Edelman.

While no one would compare the two players from a success perspective, general manager Jason Licht did speak out with a comparison between the two quarterbacks. "Some of the same ways that Tom [Brady] chose us, Baker chose us too, because he knew that Tom chose us because it was the best place for him to win a Super Bowl, Baker chose us because it's the best place for him to revive his career," Licht said. "There wasn't agendas, and he was going to be able to just play football and try to win. So that was big for him, and he's obviously helped, big part in winning, but those players love playing with him, especially receivers. Who knows if Mike [Evans] would have chose to come here, who knows if Chris [Godwin] would have signed back, they love that guy. It's because they want somebody that's going to help them on the field too. So I hope Baker's here a long time." Last season, Mayfield played in all 17 games for the Buccaneers. He completed 71.4 percent of his pass attempts for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. Mayfield also ran for 378 yards and three more scores. Back in 2023 in his first season in Tampa Bay, he threw for 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while completing 64.3 percent of his passes. Needless to say, the marriage between Mayfield and the Buccaneers has gone well. Mayfield leading the Buccaneers to a championship would equal the championship Brady brought to town. Only time will tell, but the team has a new star quarterback leading the way and Mayfield deserves a lot of recognition and praise for what he's done through two years with Tampa Bay. Every season, a new class of rookies enters the NFL and immediately is met with comparisons and expectations. The exercise isn't just done by fans, as analysts pore through years of notes to come up with the perfect match. This season is no different, and of course, the Tennessee Titans' selection of Cam Ward is no exception. And many comparisons have been made. But for some analysts, his leadership style and work ethic bring back memories of one of Tennessee's all-time greats. Rob Rang of Fox Sports recently completed this comparison exercise and believes that Ward has the potential to lead the Titans into rarified air, with similarities to Steve McNair. While McNair's impact on Nashville will never be duplicated, Ward does have the ability to help the Titans transcend mediocrity and become viable contenders. Like McNair, Ward does bring a sense of excitement and hope to the franchise, and all signs have been positive to this point. Yes, there is still a long way to go before this comparison can become a reality, but the foundation is already being laid with hard work and intangibles that cannot be duplicated.

He also discussed the pair's goal to end that head coach-quarterback turnover trend that's plagued Chicago for decades. Johnson is one of the NFL's brightest offensive minds, and he turned the Detroit Lions offense into a top unit in the league while reviving Jared Goff's career. Now, Johnson gets a chance to work with a young quarterback in Williams, who he praised before even taking the job. If there's anyone who can maximize Williams' potential, it's Johnson. For as long as the Bears have been searching for coaching stability (since the Lovie Smith era), they've been looking even longer for a true franchise quarterback who can lead this team to a Super Bowl championship.
