Premier League cult hero Dimitri Payet set to leave Brazilian side on a free transfer amid sexual assault case after being accused of forcing ex-mistress to 'drink her own urine'
Dimitri Payet has left Brazilian club Vasco da Gama on a free transfer, the club have confirmed, amid a current sexual and physical assault case against the 38-year-old.
The former West Ham and France star stands accused of 'physical and psychological violence' towards his former 'mistress', Brazilian lawyer Larissa Natalya Ferrari, who was allegedly forced to drink her own urine and lick the floor during a turbulent seven-month affair.
He joined the Brazilian outfit in 2023 after leaving Marseille, where he spent six years following his West Ham departure where he quickly earned himself Premier League cult icon status.
While at Vasco da Gama he featured 75 times, scoring seven times and assisting 13 goals, though the club have now announced his time will come to an end.
'Vasco da Gama informs that, in an amicable manner, they have reached an agreement for the early closure of the link with midfielder Dimitri Payet.
'The club thanks the athlete for the professionalism, dedication and respect shown throughout his journey through São Januário, and wishes success in his upcoming challenges.
'For Vasco, Payet has played 77 matches, scored 8 goals and contributed 16 assists.
'Thank you, Payet.'
Last month, Brazilian outlet G1 claimed to have obtained a document with details of the case against Payet in which the lawyer attested to suffering from borderline personality disorder, believing the former Rio de Janeiro-based Vasco da Gama star took advantage of her condition.
'Dimitri knew about my passion and psychological problems, using this against me,' she is reported to have said by G1. 'Dimitri convinced me to put my head in the trash, in the toilet, made me drink my own urine and other sexual bizarre acts.'
However, according to RMC Sport via Brazilian outlet Extra, the prosecutor's office is now seeking to dismiss the complaint due to a lack of evidence required to charge the 38-year-old.
The report states that the plaintiff's defence has appealed the decision.
Last month reports claimed that Payet had denied 'physical and psychological violence' towards his 'mistress' in a statement to Brazilian police.
The Frenchman was reportedly heard at the Women's Assistance Police Station where he admitted to having a relationship with Ferrari but insisted every act during their union was consensual.
Furthermore, Payet, who left his wife of almost 20 years Ludivine and their four children back in his homeland during his time in Brazil, was alleged to have admitted to the acts but maintained that they were consensual and proposed by Ferrari.
G1's report mentioned an encounter when Ferrari 'requested slaps during sexual intercourse' and as a result, developed marks on her body.
The Frenchman also reportedly claimed that the two used wooden chairs during sexual intercourse, and that, due to Ferrari's light skin, any pressure would lead to marks.
It followed Ferrari's impassioned public plea for 'justice', in a statement in which she claimed to have been 'humiliated' by the 38-cap former Les Blues star.
'I want justice because he abused my psychological vulnerability to gain sexual advantage,' she told AFP. 'He demanded proof of love from me, which consisted of humiliation.
'I recorded videos in which I drank my urine, drank water from the toilet bowl, and licked the floor. I'm a lawyer, I would never have made such serious complaints lightly.'
It was claimed that Payet refused Ferrari's desire to continue this relationship in France, on the condition he pay her expenses, as his time in the country approached its end.
According to the player, the lawyer's behaviour changed from then on, leading to her threatening to 'expose his secrets' if he did not respond within four hours of her birthday message.
The 38-year-old had left his wife of almost 20 years (Ludivine) and their four kids back home
During his time at Vasco da Gama, Payet played 77 matches, with eight goals and 16 assists

Payet's lawyer Sheila Lustoza told G1: 'It is regrettable that confidential records were leaked, but the case reveals with evidence something that is very clear: a woman exercising her freedom and will, as it should be, contrary to what has been publicly narrated up until now.
'The defense is confident that the truth that is proven by documents will demonstrate these facts.'
Payet is widely regarded as one of West Ham's most talented players this century but left under a cloud to re-join Marseille after just 18 months in 2017. He stays at the Stade Velodrome for six-and-a-half years before moving to Brazil in 2023.
In March, Larissa revealed that they had had a seven-month affair.
She wrote in a lengthy statement: 'One thing I want to make clear is that it was never about money. There was no need for it.
'There's not much I can say because there's no explanation or anything to justify it.
'But one thing I want to make extremely clear is that it was never for money, not before, not now. In fact, the last time I went to Rio, I went by bus.'

Botafogo striker Igor Jesus is modern Didier Drogba who scored winner v PSG and will be at Nottingham Forest next season
IN the space of the current decade, Botafogo of Rio have gone from Brazil's second division, to reigning national and South American champions, to unlikely conquerors of Paris Saint Germain. The extraordinary rise has been bankrolled by US businessman John Textor, who also owns Lyon in France and is trying to sell his stake in Crystal Palace. 11 11 11 But the Botafogo story is now just a tale of the chequebook. It is also about wonderful work by the scouting department - exemplified by the case of centre forward Igor Jesus. The Brazil international scored the only goal as Botafogo shocked PSG with a 1-0 win and joins Nottingham Forest after the Club World Cup. The 24-year-old began his professional career with Coritiba in the south of Brazil, where he showed promise but not much more. And then he found his way to Shabab Al Alhi in the Arab Emirates. This took him off the radar screen of most people - but not Botafogo. He did well in his new surroundings, and even had an offer to take on local citizenship and play for the national team. He declined, declaring that he was prepared to wait for an opportunity to play for Brazil. It seemed a fanciful dream but Botafogo were watching and signed him on a free when his contract ran out. They brought him back to Brazil where he was unknown but they unleashed him in July of last year. And by September he was playing and scoring for Brazil in World Cup qualification. Amid the recent turmoil of the Brazilian national team he soon lost his place. But he will be back - especially because he gave new coach Carlo Ancelotti a powerful demonstration of his merits. Ancelotti arrived to coach Brazil at the end of May. The next day he called up his first squad - without Igor Jesus. And the day after he was in Botafogo's stadium for a crunch game in the Copa Libertadores, South America's Champions League. Botafogo had to win to stay in the competition and defend the title they won last year. They were up against Universidad de Chile who found themselves a man up early in the match. Nottingham Forest's other signing, gangling centre back Jair Cunha, launched himself into a bad tackle and was sent off. Botafogo had to win the game with ten men - and Igor Jesus ensured that they did. Textor has described him as the perfect centre forward. He has a strong physical presence, he can hold the ball up and shrug off defenders. 11 11 He is quick and mobile, able to work the channels and he has an extraordinary spirit of sacrifice. In the final of last year's Libertadores against fellow Brazilians Atletico MIneiro, Botafogo had a man sent off in the first thirty seconds. Igor Jesus had to dedicate himself to being the first line of defence, and carried out the task tirelessly. In this game against Universidad de Chile he had to be the first line of defence and the cutting edge of the attack - Botafogo had to win. Every time he got on the ball he was a nightmare for the Chilean defenders and he scored the goal that takes his side through to the knock out phase. Against PSG he had to go through his repertoire against much better defenders. 11 11 And he worried Lucas Beraldo and William Pacho all through the game, giving options for the besieged Botafogo defenders to clear their lines, combining with his midfielders, and charging towards Gianluigi Donnarumma to score - with the help of a deflection - the only goal in a famous victory. Textor appeared after the match to thank Igor Jesus by pretending to polish his boot. Igor Jesus is looking increasingly like a modern day version of Didier Drogba - a one man forward line capable of performing every function a striker needs to do and able to take on entire defences all on his own. His performance would not have been enough to secure victory without the splendid disciplined defending of his team-mates in which Jair Cunha played the game of his life. The 20-year-old was signed at the start of the season after helping Santos win promotion back to the top flight last year. 11 11 Injuries meant that he has been thrown in at the deep end and it has not always been easy. He can struggle for balance and though he scored with a towering header in the opening game against Seattle Sounders, he had plenty of defensive problems. But he rose to the challenge in fine style against PSG. He was well protected, and able to spend the game defending in reduced space. But he kept his head well under pressure and made Forest fans hope that Igor Jesus will not be the only Brazilian signing making an impact next season at the City Ground.

West Ham 'approached by Italian giants Juventus over swap deal involving two centre-backs'
West Ham and Juventus are reportedly in discussions over a potential swap deal. Both sides are looking to address their defensive shortcomings this summer and the swap could suit both parties. According to Sky, Juve are keen on 29-year-old Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd. Aguerd joined the Hammers in a deal worth £30m in 2022 and made 58 appearances over two seasons before being sent out on loan to Real Sociedad for the 2024-25 campaign. The London club could be willing to part ways with the player but want Daniele Rugani in return. Rugani joined Juventus in 2012 but has never quite managed to secure a regular starting role. The 30-year-old has had loan spells with four different clubs during that time and spent last season at Ajax. He is currently with The Old Lady at the Club World Cup but was left on the bench for Wednesday's 5-0 opening win over Al-Ain. Bayer Leverkusen and Marseille have also been linked with a move for Aguerd this summer. Real Sociedad would also be keen to re-signing Aguerd on loan but West Ham would prefer a permanent deal if the 29-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by Graham Potter.

Mohammed Kudus transfer talk set to rumble on as West Ham stance offers encouragement to rivals
Much could be decided at the beginning of next month. He has a 10-day release clause which comes into effect on July 1 and runs until July 10. During that time, he can be bought out of his West Ham contract by European clubs for £80million, Premier League rivals for £85m or Saudi sides for £120m. That could be when interest in the forward intensifies even more.
