Cong team visits Gopalpur beach, meets locals, SP

Berhampur: A five-member all-women Congress fact-finding team on Saturday visited Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district, where a 20-year-old college student was allegedly gang-raped by 10 men, including four juveniles, on June 15.
The team, led by AICC general secretary Deepa Dasmunshi, visited the crime scene and interacted with locals about the state of police patrolling. The delegation also held discussions with SP (Berhampur), Saravana Vivek M.
Rajya Sabha MP Ranjeet Ranjan, a team member, condemned the incident. "The area lacks adequate lighting and police presence despite being a major tourist spot," the MP said.
The team, which includes MPs Praniti Shinde, S Jothimani and former spokesperson Shobha Oza, will tour other areas in the state over the next three days to document incidents of violence against women.
"We will submit our findings to the AICC and also meet President Droupadi Murmu," Ranjan added.
She alleged the state govt failed to take women's safety seriously, citing the suspension of Congress MLAs from the assembly after they demanded a debate and committee on the matter. "At least three gang-rape cases have been reported in just a week," she added.
Former Berhampur MP Chandra Sekhar Sahu said the BJD was the first to protest against the incident.

Meanwhile, hundreds of local people, family members, relatives and senior officials on June 20 bid a tearful farewell to 26-year-old Lamnunthem Singson, in Manipur's tribal inhabited Kangpokpi district. The mortal remains of Singson first arrived in Nagaland's Dimapur airport from Ahmedabad on June 19 and were then taken to Kangpokpi district, avoiding Manipur's capital, Imphal, due to the ongoing ethnic tension and security reasons. Singson was a resident of Kangpokpi district and belonged to the tribal Thadou community. On June 12, Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with 242 passengers and crew crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad. There was only one survivor, a British passenger named Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, who miraculously escaped the tragedy.

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nishikant Dubey slammed Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, questioning the motives of the Congress leader to encourage learning English rather than local languages while also alluding to the 'hypocrisy' of opposing the National Education Police (NEP) 2020 for language choice stating that the 1986 NEP had similar goals. 'Rahul Gandhi ji your investigative advisor is hell bent on destroying you, this is the education policy of 1986 given by your father to the country, in this, your father is promising the country to promote Hindi, teach Sanskrit language and translate English into regional languages. This same education policy is almost in place now. Students should also grow with regional languages, changes in this have been made by Prime Minister Modi ji in 2020,' Dubey said in a post on X in Hindi. He said that while countries such as Russia, China, France, Germany, Japan and, Arab countries were 'proud of their language,' the former Congress president is proud of English 'like slaves.' English is not shame, it is power. English is not a chain - it is a tool to break the chains. BJP-RSS don't want poor kids of India to learn English - because they don't want you to ask questions, move ahead, and become equal,' the Congress leader said in a post on X. While also highlighting that every language is useful and beautiful for its culture, knowledge, and soul, the party leader added, 'In today's world, English is as important as your mother tongue - because it will provide employment and boost your confidence.
