Nagpur: In a robust effort to combat ticketless and irregular travel, Central Railway's Nagpur Division conducted a highly successful ticket-checking drive on June 19 generating a record Rs12,56,650 in a single day.
The operation, led by the divisional chief ticket inspector, involved 80 ticket-checking staff, four Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, and two commercial inspectors. They covered 22 long-distance express trains and key stations, including Nagpur, Amla, Betul, Wardha, and Ballarshah. The intensive drive resulted in the detection of 1,933 cases of ticketless or irregular travel, underscoring the division's commitment to revenue protection and passenger compliance.
Standout performers included Chintukumar, who recovered Rs43,830 from 48 cases, Ritesh Sevnia with Rs35,000 from 60 cases, and Alok Jha, who collected Rs 31,950 from 40 cases. These officials were deployed on prominent trains such as the Dakshin Express, Sanghamitra Express, and Andaman Express, ensuring maximum coverage and impact.
The initiative highlights Central Railway's proactive approach to enforcing travel regulations while enhancing operational efficiency. Jun 21, 2025 08:24 AM IST Mumbai: A sessions court has called for the medical report of Chetan Singh Chaudhary, a former Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable accused of shooting dead four passengers on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express on the night of July 31, 2023. Chetan Singh Chaudhary (PTI) While one of those dead was Chaudhary's senior, with whom he had an argument prior to the shootings, the others were all identified as Muslim by their beards and then shot. Chaudhary's plea for bail citing 'temporary insanity' was rejected in December 2023. The sessions court had called for Chaudhary's medical report earlier too, on May 23. But it was never submitted as the judge hearing the case got transferred and the court was without a judge. Friday saw the resumption of court proceedings in the trial after a gap of almost a month. Chaudhary's trial commenced last November, when he was lodged in Akola Central Jail and attended court proceedings via video conferencing. In February this year, finding his behavior odd, the Akola jail authorities took him to Akola Central Hospital, where doctors advised that he be taken to Thane Mental Hospital for a proper examination. The 34-year-old former constable has been in Thane Mental Hospital since February 20. On March 12, the court ordered a stop to the trial since Chaudhary could not be present even through video conferencing. Four witnesses, including two RPF constables on duty with him that night, have so far testified. With a new judge having taken over, the court on Friday ordered that Choudhary's medical report be presented in court by the next date, July 3.

Human trafficker arrested in Tripura's Sepahijala district

A human trafficker was arrested at Dudhpukur under Kalamchoura police station in Sepahijala district today. The arrested person was identified as Sharif Miah, resident of Dudhpukur. He was arrested during a joint raid conducted by Agartala Government Railway police, local police and Border Security Force. 'He was wanted in a case. We conducted raid at his house many times, but he was absconding. We came to know that he is currently at his home and conducted a joint operation to arrest him. We produced him to the court today and sought police remand for him', said officer in-charge of Agartala Government Railway Police Station Tapas Das. In the preliminary interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the case, however, police are investigating to find out whether he had any involvement in other cases, the police official added. Few days ago, Two persons including one Bangladeshi national and an Indian human trafficker were arrested from two separate places in Tripura. The trafficker, resident of Chanipur in West Tripura district was arrested during joint operation conducted by Agartala Government Railway police, Railway Protection Force (RPF) , Border Security Force (BSF), local police station and other sister agencies. A series of arrests of Bangladeshi and Rohingya persons have come in different parts of Tripura, especially at Agartala Railway Station. As per a report of the Tripura Police, 816 Bangladeshi nationals, 79 Rohingya persons and two Nigerians were arrested from January 1, 2024 till February 28 this year. Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, recently informed that 2815 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested for illegally crossing the Indo-Bangla border into Tripura from 2022 to October 31, 2024, out of which 1746 have been pushed back to their country of origin and 1069 others are housed in jail custody, temporary detention centers, shelter homes or are out on bail. Tripura shares 856 km of international border with Bangladesh, including land based and riverine border, much of which is covered with barbed wire fence except a few patches which are still unfenced due to local disputes.
