Tom Cruise to receive honorary Oscar in career first - Screens - Arts & Culture
US actor and film producer Tom Cruise will receive an honorary Oscar ahead of the 2026 Academy Awards, the organizers said Tuesday, marking a career first for the Hollywood veteran.
Cruise was selected to receive a statuette for his contributions to cinema, along with choreographer Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas.
Dolly Parton will also be awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her decades-long humanitarian work, with the trophies presented at the Academy's 16th Governors Awards event in November.
Cruise, 62, has had four Oscar nominations but has never won the prestigious prize, despite achieving global fame for his roles in action films "Mission: Impossible" and "Top Gun."
"Tom Cruise's incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all," the Academy said in a statement.
It praised him as "one of the most recognized and highest-grossing actors of all time" and noted his commitment to performing all of his own stunts.
Allen, 75, was recognized for her five-decade career that has included choreographing the Academy Awards ceremony seven times and working on films including 1995 rom-com "Forget Paris."
Meanwhile, Thomas was saluted for his production work on titles such as "Malcolm X" and "Do the Right Thing."

Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill Reunite for "Highlander" Reboot
Yara Sameh Russell Crowe is set to reunite with his "Man of Steel" co-star Henry Cavill for the remake of 'Highlander.' The Oscar-winner is set to play Cavill's mentor in a variation on the part played by Sean Connery in the 1986 original film. 'John Wick' director Chad Stahelski will helm the remake from a script by Michael Finch ('John Wick: Chapter 4'). 'Highlander' is backed by Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists, which is run by former Netflix film chief Scott Stuber. The film will open theatrically. Crowe was one of the biggest stars of the late '90s and 00s, appearing in action-heavy roles in the likes of 'Gladiator' and 'Master & Commander,' and earning critical raves for more dramatic work in 'The Insider,' 'A Beautiful Mind,' and 'L.A. Confidential.' In recent years, he's taken on more character parts in the likes of 'Kraven the Hunter' or starred in lower-budgeted movies such as 'The Pope's Exorcist' and 'Sleeping Dogs.' Crowe is next slated to play Hermann Göring, one of Hitler's most trusted allies, in James Vanderbilt's 'Nuremberg,' which Sony Pictures Classics will release in November. He also recently wrapped work on Netflix's 'Unabom,' which looks at the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, as well as the Cold War thriller 'Billion Dollar Spy' and the action thriller 'Bear Country.' Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will produce 'Highlander' for United Artists alongside Neal H. Moritz, 87Eleven Entertainment, Stahelski's production banner, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner. United Artists has secured full rights to the 1986 original, which Lionsgate developed, with the potential to also develop a new series. The original film starred Christopher Lambert and centered on a group of nearly invincible, ageless warriors. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Egyptian artist Dina El-Rouby explores cultural parallels in Seoul exhibition - City Lights - Life & Style
Egyptian conceptual artist Dina Fahmy El-Rouby opened her solo exhibition, From Nile to Han, at the Egyptian Embassy in Seoul this week, offering a visually rich reflection on the shared threads of Egyptian and Korean heritage. The show, staged as part of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and South Korea, brings together more than 45 mixed-media works. El-Rouby blends symbolism, calligraphy, and traditional motifs from both cultures — from ancient scripts to architectural forms — creating layered compositions that explore identity, continuity, and cultural memory. Several pieces are augmented with interactive digital elements, inviting visitors to scan the works and uncover animated overlays or embedded narratives. The opening drew a wide range of guests, including Korean artists, gallerists, diplomats, and members of the Egyptian community. Among the attendees were ambassadors from Mexico, Singapore, Pakistan, Russia, the Czech Republic, Belarus, and officials from the United States, Azerbaijan, and Tanzania. Jin Cho, deputy director-general for the Middle East and Africa at South Korea's foreign ministry, formally inaugurated the exhibition. Egypt's Ambassador to Korea Khaled Abdel-Rahman honors artist Dina El-Rouby at her exhibition opening in Seoul 'Art is the universal language that connects us all, transcending borders, time, and differences,' El-Rouby said at the opening. 'Through this exhibition, I aim to honor the shared humanity that binds Egyptian and Korean cultures together.' From Nile to Han is one of several cultural initiatives led by Egypt's ambassador to Seoul, Khaled Abdel-Rahman, marking three decades of diplomatic ties.
