Naruto: The heartbreaking story behind Obito Uchiha's downfall

Time of India16-05-2025

From hero to villain, the tragic path of
Obito Uchiha
details why he's one of Naruto's most layered characters.
First, if you're new to the
Naruto anime
universe you may have heard of a devilish, but curious, villain known as Obito Uchiha. Once a happy young boy with aspirations to one day become Hokage—the leader of the Hidden Leaf Village—Obito's life was irrevocably altered following a traumatic chain reaction. His tragic transformation from benevolent ninja to puppet master of a worldwide war is perhaps the most heartbreakingly profound arc in the entire Naruto saga. Whether you've been following Obito since 2005, or you're diving into the series for the first time with the anime, Obito's story presents a resonant lesson on pain, loss, and redemption.
Obito's childhood: A dream just like Naruto's
Obito Uchiha had a similar childhood, becoming an orphan at a young age like Naruto Uzumaki. Even without a true family, he felt the need to protect his village and aspire to be Hokage someday. He was assigned to Team Minato, with future ninjas
Kakashi Hatake
and Rin Nohara, led by Minato Namikaze—Naruto's future father.
These two components together with Obito's bright, outgoing nature and strong will He originally went to the same academy as Kakashi, who was the so-called genius, the white fang. His classmate Obito had a massive crush on Rin and would do anything to impress her to get the attention of his rival, Kakashi. For all their differences, Obito would do anything to protect his teammates.

The mission that changed everything
During the Third Shinobi World War, Obito's squad was dispatched on a suicide mission to destroy a bridge deep in enemy territory. The execution went catastrophically wrong. Rin was kidnapped, and despite personal convictions, Kakashi was ordered to stand down from rescuing her. When they tried to make her stay behind, Obito disobeyed orders and operated as a solo unit to go save her. Kakashi later joined him, and together they fought to save Rin's soul.
At a crucial moment in the fight, Obito unlocked his Sharingan, an advanced Uchiha power, after seeing Kakashi nearly sacrifice himself. Even during the rescue, one cave was suddenly cut off when another cave abruptly collapsed. Obito pushed Kakashi out of the way and got crushed by the boulders.
Sure that he was going to die, Obito transferred his last Sharingan eye to Kakashi as a present. His teammates survived, but Obito's tale was far from over.
Saved by Madara a new nightmare begins
Obito survived the collapse. He was discovered by White Zetsu and brought to an ancient base of operations established by Madara Uchiha—a famed ninja with aspirations of undertaking total world domination. Madara did bring Obito back with the DNA of Hashirama Senju, but started to fill his mind with poison and falsehoods about the harshness of life.
Obito did everything to get back to his friends and his life, but that all ended the moment he witnessed Kakashi murder Rin with a lightning bolt to her chest. What he couldn't have known was that Rin, having become a jinchuriki—essentially, being cursed to be the home of the Three-Tails monstrosity—and pleaded with Kakashi to kill her in order to spare the village.
The trauma brokenness transformed Obito's heart. He raged and slaughtered the entire opposing squad of ninjas, cradling Rin's corpse in his arms in shock. Once that first proverbial stone was thrown, the tenderhearted lad with dreams of harmony had left the stage.
Obito becomes Tobi, The mastermind behind the war
Getting back to Madara, Obito rejected his original values. So he stole Madara's name and started operating from the shadows. Operating under the identity of 'Tobi,' he led the Akatsuki—a group of rogue ninjas—and sought to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi, a dream world in which no one would have to suffer anymore.
Obito's plan eventually initiated the
Fourth Great Ninja War
, directly putting him in opposition with Naruto and the other great shinobi. Obito wasn't born a villain—he was just a lost spirit who came to think that love and happiness had no place in reality.
Redemption: Naruto reminds Obito of who he was
During the war, Naruto refused to give up on Obito. He reminded him of the young boy who wanted to protect others and become Hokage. Their emotional battle wasn't just about strength—it was a clash of ideals. In the end, Obito helped Naruto and sacrificed himself to stop an even greater threat: Kaguya Otsutsuki.
Before dying, Obito apologized to Kakashi and passed on his powers. He even got to speak to Rin one last time in the afterlife. His story ended in sadness, but also in peace.
Obito Uchiha's story is a reminder of how pain can twist even the kindest people. He was a victim of war, love, and loss—but he also found redemption through hope and friendship. For fans of Naruto, his story remains one of the most emotional in the entire anime.
If you're just starting Naruto, keep an eye on Obito. His journey shows how thin the line is between a hero and a villain—and how even in darkness, light can still break through.

First date? Red flags you shouldn't ignore (but probably will)

A first date is like a tiny stage performance. Both people are trying to put their best foot forward—dressed well, choosing their words carefully, and turning up the charm. Between the jokes, food, and personal stories, you're wondering: Could this be something real? But in the swirl of all that newness, it's easy to miss subtle red flags—little things that seem harmless but hint at something deeper. Especially when the chemistry feels strong, our hearts often convince us to ignore the signs our gut is trying to point out. Here are some red flags you shouldn't ignore, even if you're tempted to look the other way. They only talk about themselves Talking about yourself on a first date is natural. But if your date dominates the entire conversation, doesn't ask you a single question, or constantly interrupts when you try to speak—it's a bad sign. Relationships are a two-way street. If they can't make space for your voice now, will they ever? They're rude to the staff Pay close attention to how they treat waiters, receptionists, or anyone else during the date. Do they say 'thank you'? Are they polite or snappy? Someone who's kind to you but dismissive or rude to others may not be showing their true colors. Kindness should be a habit, not a performance. They keep bringing up their ex A brief mention of an ex is completely normal—everyone has a past. But if they spend most of the date ranting about, comparing you to, or even praising their ex, it could mean they're not emotionally available. If their attention is still on the past, they might not be looking for something real in the present. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Click Here Undo Their jokes make you uncomfortable Humor is personal. But if your date's jokes are sexist, racist, cruel, or just make you feel weird—and they brush it off with, 'I'm just kidding'—that's a red flag. Jokes often reflect beliefs. If their idea of humor doesn't sit right with you, it's okay to question it. They rush the connection It might feel flattering at first if they call you their 'soulmate' or start talking about living together after just one date. But moving too fast can be a form of love-bombing—giving too much attention too soon, which can later turn into control or manipulation. A genuine connection takes time to grow. Their compliments are... strange Some compliments come with a weird undertone. Things like, 'You're not like other girls,' or 'You're smart for someone who didn't go to college.' These are often disguised put-downs or ways to subtly establish control. Real compliments make you feel seen and appreciated—not compared or undermined. Something just feels off This might be the most important one. Even if nothing seems technically wrong, but your gut is whispering, something's not right—listen to it. Our bodies often know what our brains haven't figured out yet. Trust your instincts if you feel uneasy, even if everything looks good on paper. Why these red flags matter It's easy to overlook these signs because we want the date to go well. We crave connection, affection, and the hope of something lasting. That's human. But red flags aren't just random quirks—they're often early signs of patterns that could repeat. You're not being 'too picky' by noticing them. You're not overthinking. You're just staying aware of what kind of relationship you want—and what you're not willing to tolerate. First dates aren't tests you have to pass. They're also auditions for the other person. You have the right to walk away if something feels off, even if the food was amazing and they made you laugh. Because the first red flag you ignore might just be the first of many. Karan Veer Mehra: I care about the strength of the role, not the length

Karan Veer Mehra Karan Veer Mehra is turning a new chapter in his career, shifting focus toward purposeful roles in films. The actor, who will soon be seen in Omung Kumar 's upcoming romantic action drama, is tight-lipped about the details but says, 'It's unlike anything I've done before. The film has an amazing cast, soulful music, and strong studio backing — that alone makes it an exciting opportunity. ' Following back-to-back reality show wins in Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss — a rare combination — Karan made a conscious decision to wait for the right film rather than capitalise immediately on his newfound popularity. He says, 'After the shows, there were plenty of offers — music videos, more reality TV, brand campaigns — all with lucrative payouts. But I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon just for visibility.' Instead, he used that time to reflect on what truly fuels him. He shares, 'By society's standards, I had it all — money, fame, a fancy lifestyle. But something was missing. I realised that nothing makes me happier than performing — being on stage or in front of the camera. That led me to enroll in an advanced acting workshop. Some clips from our sessions went viral, and soon after, casting agencies and production houses began reaching out. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo It was almost as if the energy I was putting out found its way back.' Karan is now in talks for several projects, including one with a director he had long admired. He says, 'There's a filmmaker I had been trying to connect with for months. Now, we're actively discussing a potential collaboration. It's surreal, but also a reminder that persistence and preparation align at the right time.' Karan with Sushant Singh Rajput On the oft-discussed perception that television actors struggle to find substantial roles in films, he responds, 'There's some truth to that — unless someone breaks the mould. Shah Rukh Khan , Irrfan Khan, and my dear friend Sushant Singh Rajput , did exactly that. I spent a lot of time with Sushant during his early film days, and his journey remains inspiring.' Karan adds that the size of a role doesn't matter to him. 'I care about the strength of the character, not the length of screen time. I want to be part of compelling stories, and I'm ready to give it my all — even if the budget is small. For me, it's always been about the work, not the paycheck. In many ways, I feel like I'm just getting started,' he concludes.
