Two killed, one injured in head-on crash in Machang

KOTA BHARU: Two people were killed and another was injured when two cars collided head-on along Jalan Machang–Kuala Krai, near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abdul Samad, early this morning.
Machang district police chief Supt Ahmad Shafiki Hussin said the accident occurred at 12.05 am and involved a Honda Accord heading in the Kuala Krai-Kota Bharu direction and a Perodua Axia.
He said the Honda Accord driver, a man, was killed on the spot, and the female driver of the Perodua Axia died while receiving emergency treatment at Hospital Machang.
A teenage girl travelling in the Perodua Axia was injured and taken to Hospital Machang.
'Preliminary investigations found that the Honda Accord went out of control and collided with the oncoming Perodua Axia,' he said in a statement.
Ahmad Shafiki said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He urged anyone with information on the accident to contact investigating officer Insp Fatin Nurhanis Ibrahim at 011-1454020 or the Machang police operations room at 09-9751222.
Machang Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Suhaimi Razali said the two drivers and the Perodua Axia passenger were trapped in the wreckage of the crash.
'Firemen used power unit rescue tools to remove the victims,' he said when contacted.

The accident occurred at 1.56am and involved a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and three motorcycles, police said. Kulai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said the teenager, believed to have been riding at high speed, crashed into the rear of the SUV, causing him to lose control and fall onto the road. He sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang. Two of his friends, aged 17 and 19, also fell during the incident. One suffered a broken leg and arm, while the other sustained minor injuries and was treated as an outpatient. Tan said the trio were not involved in illegal street racing, but had been riding at high speeds. He also said only the deceased did not possess a valid motorcycle licence. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. KULAI: A 16-year-old motorcyclist has died after crashing into the back of a car along the North-South Expressway. Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the accident occurred at KM46.2 (northbound) at 1.56am on Saturday (June 21). "Three friends, aged 16, 17, and 19, were riding at high speed on the expressway before the 16-year-old rammed into the rear of the sports utility vehicle. "He fell on the road and sustained head injuries while the two other motorcyclists also lost control and fell," he said in a statement on Sunday (June 22). The 16-year-old died while receiving treatment at Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang after suffering fatal head injuries. ACP Tan added that another motorcyclist suffered a broken right leg and hand injuries, while the third had minor leg and hand injuries. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. ACP Tan also reminded the public to drive cautiously and obey traffic laws to prevent similar tragedies. Witnesses are urged to contact the investigating officer, Insp Mohd Ruslan Mohamed, at 013-3063710 or visit the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Kulai district police headquarters.

JOHOR BARU: A 14-year-old motorcycle pillion rider was killed in an accident with a lorry at Ulu Tiram here. Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said two 14-year-old students, one rider and one pillion rider, were travelling on the motorcycle along Batu 16, Jalan Sungai Tiram, Ulu Tiram when the accident occurred at around 10.44am on Friday (June 20). "The lorry was proceeding straight along the road, and the motorcycle was reported to have suddenly appeared on the left side. "The motorcyclist then lost control of the vehicle and fell to the left side of the road, while the pillion rider was thrown under the lorry and was run over," he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). The victim died on the spot after suffering from fatal head injuries, he said. ACP Mohd Sohaimi added that the motorcyclist sustained leg injuries and was rushed to Hospital Sultan Ismail for medical treatment. He said the 35-year-old lorry driver was detained to assist in investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He also urged the public to obey traffic laws and exercise caution, especially during peak hours and nighttime driving, to prevent similar tragedies. Witnesses are urged to contact the police at 07-3864222 to assist with the investigation.
