Remains of missing boater from Truro found in N.S. lake
The remains of a man who disappeared after his boat capsized on Cousins Lake in April have been found.
The RCMP responded to the lake in Devon, N.S., around 3:30 p.m. on April 10.
A 53-year-old man swam to shore and called for help. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 58-year-old man from Truro, N.S., failed to make it to shore.
'An extensive search was conducted over several weeks, but they were unsuccessful in locating the missing boater,' said the RCMP in a news release Friday.
'On May 4, the man's loved ones attended the lake in Devon and located human remains that were then recovered by ground search and rescue (GSAR) and fire services.'
Police say the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service has now confirmed the remains are those of the missing boater. His death is not believed to be suspicious.
'The man's family, and the Nova Scotia RCMP, wishes to thank everyone involved, GSAR volunteers, fire services, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and Department of Natural Resources Air Services for their efforts in trying to locate the man,' said the RCMP.
'Our thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this difficult time.'
The man's identity has not been released.

Man charged after reporting car stolen hours after crashing it: Guelph Police
A Guelph man who falsely reported his vehicle stolen several hours after crashing it is facing multiple charges. Police say the 27-year-old man went to the police station Saturday morning and claimed his Honda Civic had been stolen from outside a north-end bar the night before. He told officers he left it there because he was intoxicated and returned Saturday morning to find it gone. At the time, officers were already investigating a single-vehicle crash that had occurred around 12:15 a.m. Saturday on Stevenson Street North, where a car left the road and struck a fire hydrant and sign. The vehicle was unoccupied when officers arrived and the registered owner could not be located. Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage from the bar, which showed the man getting into the car and driving away roughly 90 minutes before the crash. The man is charged with public mischief, dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 1.
