Top-rated Atlanta bakery has just opened its first Florida location
A colorful assortment of sweet and savory baked goods line display cases inside Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe's first Florida store. The shop, which has five locations in Georgia and another in Texas, recently opened in the Orange Blossom shopping plaza on Cortez Road in Bradenton. 'We wanted to be kind of like a [feeling] at home,' store manager Tonny Yin said about choosing the area. 'So we wanted to allow people to come and relax.' What's on the menu? Sweet Hut features Asian pastries, buns, homemade cookies, cakes, sandwiches, burgers, coffee, teas and an assortment of fruit-flavored refresher drinks. 'There's a lot of savory stuff as well,' Yin said. Sweet Hut was founded in 2012 by Howie Ewe and Amy Wong in Atlanta, according to Plano Magazine. It's since become a hit, claiming the No. 1 spot on Trip Advisor's 'Best Bakeries in Atlanta' and frequently appearing on lists of the city's favorite places for a sweet treat. In Bradenton, Yin said customer favorites so far include Sweet Hut's fruit cake and its strawberry cake — a brightly frosted vanilla sponge cake with layers of fresh-cut strawberries and cream. 'We don't make it too sweet, so people can still enjoy it and not get tired of eating it,' Yin said. Yin said there is a lot of Malaysian and Chinese influence in the food. 'Mostly … the seasonings that we put into our meats,' he said. 'We have mini-baos as well, a fried dough used as a bun. And it's like we have the toppings, and the meat is seasoned. It's a bulgogi meat, so it's marinated in a sauce.' In addition to the sweet and savory food menu, there's a drink menu that includes coffee, frappes, milk teas, fruit teas and more. Yin said his favorite is the jasmine green milk tea. After picking a drink, customers can also select from an array of toppings that include boba, chia seeds, various flavored jellies and puddings. More information ▪ To commemorate the new store, a grand opening is planned for Friday and Saturday. Raffles and door prizes, including plushies, are part of the scheduled festivities. ▪ Sweet Hut is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. For more information, visit or call 941-216-2630.

Asda to spend £10m on revamping cafes amid closures among rivals
Asda will be revamping its cafes as part of a £10 million investment programme at a time of rival supermarkets making sweeping closures. The money will go toward modernising 180 of its cafes and expanding the menus. The project, led by catering firm Compass which manages the sites, will begin this month and is expected to be completed by the end of October. Asda said the upgrades will give a 'new look and feel' including introducing digital ordering screens and a table ordering service, as well as having a manned till. An expanded menu will see new dishes including smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, topped salad bowls, wraps and a new sharing range that includes nachos and loaded fries. Pizzas, which are currently served fresh at counters in stores, will also become part of the cafe menu. Asda's decision to launch the upgrade programme comes at a time when rival supermarkets have been cutting back their in-store cafes and counters. Sainsbury's in-store cafes have shut for good since it announced 61 closures at the start of the year. The UK's second-largest supermarket chain said the majority of its shoppers do not use them regularly, whereas in-store food stalls and concessions have grown in popularity. Morrisons is closing 52 of its cafes and a raft of meat, fish and hot food counters – changes which it said were necessary to 'renew and reinvigorate' the chain and invest in areas that 'customers really value'. It also said it was costing more to run the services than it was making from customer spending. Asda has 205 cafes in total, and has no plans for any closures. It has recently promised its biggest price cuts for 25 years under returning boss Allan Leighton, in a bid to revive the languishing chain. Ian McEvans, vice president of commercial food at Asda, said it has 'continued to demonstrate our commitment to our cafes over the years' such as with its 'kids eat for £1' meal deal. He added that cafes were 'an important part of the shopping experience for any of our customers'. Sign in to access your portfolio

Kemps partners with Midwest food banks, donates nearly 800,000 milk cartons including 30,000 in Wisconsin
APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Dairy brand Kemps is donating nearly 800,000 cartons of milk in 2025 to food banks across the Midwest, and on Wednesday, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin received over 30,000. The 'Giving Cow' chocolate milk cartons were donated to the Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin center in Appleton. Green Bay Area Public School District begins Summer Meals Program, providing free food to students The idea for the massive donation came from the recent rise in food costs, and in eastern Wisconsin alone, about 459,000 people are experiencing food insecurity, according to Feeding America. In Wisconsin as a whole, that number is over 617,000, with about a third of them being children. The reason for the milk donation is that it's one of the most requested and least donated items at food pantries, as many lack proper refrigeration. Mayor Eric Genrich fires back at Detroit after Green Bay NFL Draft sees nearly 31% increase in unique visitors According to the release, 'Giving Cow' milk is specifically designed in a carton made for food banks and backpack programs.
