KZN govt concerned about number of bus crashes in province after latest incident near Vryheid
DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government said it was concerned about the number of road accidents involving buses in the province.
Ten Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters were killed and 38 left injured on Tuesday morning when the bus they were travelling in collided with a truck in Vryheid, in northern KZN.
The group were travelling from Umlazi, south of Durban, where the party held its Youth Day rally.
The province has recorded a number of bus crashes since the start of the year.
KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli: "It's unfortunate that in KwaZulu-Natal these kind of accidents seems to be common. Each and every month, you hear news of a bus crash resulting in the loss of many lives."
Ntuli also conveyed his condolences to the affected families.
"We are sending our condolences to both the families that lost their ones and even to the EFF, as I've been informed they were members of the EFF."

EFF member Mgcini Tshwaku has dismissed claims made by former EFF deputy leader Floyd Shivambu that the party is a cult. Shivambu made the remarks during a media briefing on Thursday, saying: 'There are those who said don't rejoin the EFF because it's a cult, and I agree with them.' Shivambu left the EFF last year to join Jacob Zuma's MK Party. In an interview with Newzroom Afrika, Tshwaku defended the EFF. 'I'm not deployed by a cult, I'm in a perfect organisation. I know the EFF is not a cult, it's a democratic organisation and all you have to do in the party is to work and be accountable.' He criticised Shivambu's leadership while he was still in the EFF, saying he was ineffective. 'Floyd was a big problem in the EFF. Many of us are injured because of him.' He said Shivambu would often rely on others to do the groundwork, only to appear and request reports. 'I know Floyd was a lazy person. He says he has criss-crossed the country everywhere, but we used to do the work for him and report to him. We were the ones doing door-to-door work, building structures around the country, and he would just come in, want reports and then disappear. When you told him your issues, such as not having petrol or a place to sleep, he would laugh at you.' Shivambu's exit from the EFF was reportedly due to disagreements with the leadership, particularly regarding coalition talks. Tshwaku labelled Shivambu a 'coward' for not raising his concerns in the party. 'He's a coward. He could've raised whatever he wanted to raise in the EFF.' Shivambu has been making headlines recently after being fired as MK Party secretary-general. Duduzile claps back at Floyd Shivambu's 'takes drugs' comments
Duduzile Zuma-Samudla has finally responded to shady comments made by fellow MK Party MP, Floyd Shivambu. In a press briefing on Thursday, 19 June, the former secretary general accused his party nemesis of 'taking drugs'. Floyd was effectively demoted after the party condemned his visit to the wanted Malawian preacher, Shepard Bushiri, last month. On her Instagram Story, Duduzile shared a clip of herself laughing with EFF President Julius Malema. Like Duduzile, Floyd Shivambu threw Malema under the bus, claiming the latter was running a 'cult.' The daughter of Jacob Zuma captioned the clip: 'It's politics after all'. Referring to his own party, Floyd made a comment many believe was directed at Duduzile, the daughter of the MK Party founder, Jacob Zuma. He said, 'When you raise issues internally, you don't need to gossip about them anywhere. All the issues and concerns I had about MK, I raised internally, even against all odds. When there is an opportunity to raise an issue about wrongdoings. I clearly speak against untouchables who take drugs, tweet at night, and insult us.' 20 undocumented foreign nationals nabbed at Durban truck depot
DURBAN - Twenty foreign nationals have been arrested during a law enforcement raid at a truck depot in Durban. They're alleged to be undocumented. KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli made an unannounced visit to the area following complaints from South African drivers. They raised concerns about their working conditions. Ntuli said some of the suspects arrested on Friday face other criminal charges. ALSO READ: Foreign nationals at Bellville, Wingfield tent sites have refused all offers of help - Hill-Lewis "Some of them you'll find that they have criminal cases apart from going through the processes of deportation, they will have to face those charges first." He said two of those arrested are managers at the depot. "The owners were arrested immediately when we discovered that they have employed undocumented foreign nationals. The next is for yourself as the owner who has also employed them, to be also taken by the police to answer." The arrests come after 135 undocumented migrants were arrested last week in Hammarsdale and Chatsworth.
