Benches clear in Astros-Angels after Zach Neto takes exception to Hunter Brown HBP
Zach Neto had something to say to Hunter Brown. (Photo by) Friday's game between the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels got interesting in the third inning, courtesy of a hit-by-pitch for Zach Neto. With an out and a man on second, the Angels shortstop appeared to take a 94.8 mph sinker to his hands from Astros starting pitcher Hunter Brown. Neto was visibly furious about the pitch, yelling "That's twice," at Brown, who hit Neto with a different pitch last season. Advertisement Brown took exception to Neto's reaction, repeatedly and profanely telling him to stop crowding the plate. Cue the benches clearing, though with no punches thrown or ejections. Both Brown and Neto were guided away from each other. Still in the game, Neto reached second on a Mike Trout walk but failed to score after Brown got the third out on a grounder from Taylor Ward. It's worth noting that Brown might have had a point about Neto's proximity to the plate. Despite being one of MLB's smaller players at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, he is tied for ninth in the majors in hit-by-pitches with 36 since entering the league in 2023. The ball wasn't even that far off the plate on Friday, but Neto's hands swung around and ended up in an unfortunate place. Advertisement It's not a particularly pleasant part of his game, but his batting stance does get him the occasional free pass. As Neto said early in his career when asked if he's used to getting hit by pitches: 'I am. In college they tell us, 'Don't move your feet.' If the pitch is there and it hits you then it's a free base … on base percentage goes up.' Brown finished his night with two hits and one run allowed in five innings, with four strikeouts and two walks. His ERA sits at an AL-best 1.88 through 15 starts.

Angels manager Ron Washington steps away indefinitely due to health concerns
Ron Washington is a baseball lifer, but some recent health concerns will force the Los Angeles Angels manager to take some time away from the game. Angels general manager Perry Minasian announced plans for Washington to step away indefinitely. "We all know how important [baseball] is, but certain things are bigger than baseball, and health is obviously first and foremost," Minasian said in a statement Friday. Ray Montgomery, the team's bench coach, will handle managerial duties for the Angels' game against the Houston Astros Friday night. Washington, 73, experienced shortness of breath and appeared fatigued toward the end of a four-game series against the New York Yankees. He was cleared by Yankees doctors to fly home with the team Thursday night and underwent a series of medical tests Friday. The Angels did not specify what symptoms Washington was experiencing but said the manager addressed the team in the clubhouse along with Minasian Friday. Washington planned to watch the game from the GM's Angel Stadium suite. Washington was not made available to the media. "Wash has not felt great the last couple of days," Minasian said. "We want to make sure he's 100% before he's back in the dugout and managing. How long it's going to take, I don't know. I don't expect it to be too long. "We all know how important this is for all of us, but health is more important than anything, and, me personally, I'm not letting him back in the dugout until I know he's 100%. OK? I love the guy too much." Washington, who managed the Texas Rangers to back-to-back World Series in 2010 and 2011, was hired by Minasian before a 2024 season in which the Angels lost a franchise-record 99 games. The Angels entered Friday night's game at 36-38, 6½ games behind the Astros in the AL West. The Angels are 15-6 in one-run games, a major league-best .714 winning percentage, and 5-0 in extra innings. Rafael Fiziev vs. Ignacio Bahamondes prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ABC 8
Rafael Fiziev and Ignacio Bahamondes meet Saturday in the co-main event of UFC on ABC 8 at Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 5-1 UFC main cards, 2025: 57-44-1 Rafael Fiziev vs. Ignacio Bahamondes UFC Baku preview Fiziev (12-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) will look to end the roughest stretch of his pro career, as he comes in on a three-fight skid. While the results haven't been on his side, he's been extremely competitive, taking home Fight of the Night bonuses in two fights against Justin Gaethje. The other loss on this run was an unfortunate injury TKO loss against Mateusz Gamrot. Prior to those three fights, Fiziev racked up six straight wins, earning bonuses in five of them. ... Bahamondes (17-5 MMA, 6-2 UFC) has been no stranger to extra checks on fight night. He comes in opposite of Fiziev, running hot on a three-fight winning streak, all by first-round finish. Not only did Bahamondes make quick work of Christo Giagos, Manuel Torres and Jalin Turner, he also earned Performance of the Night bonuses for each finish. Rafael Fiziev vs. Ignacio Bahamondes UFC Baku expert pick, prediction The co-main event on ABC features a striker's delight at lightweight between Rafael Fiziev and Ignacio Bahamondes. Although this seems like a tough spot for Fiziev, given that he's technically coming off three losses, his recent resume has more to it than meets the eye. Aside from one of his losses coming by injury, Fiziev had a quiet argument for winning his first encounter with Justin Gaethje before being booked for a senseless rematch on short notice with "The Highlight" after an extended layoff due to said injury. To Fiziev's credit, he showed noted efforts of improvement in his last fight with Gaethje from both pacing and grappling perspectives – which could come in handy against Bahamondes. I've been a big fan of Bahamondes and his improvements when it comes to both counterstriking and counter-grappling. That said, I'm not sure he can count on commanding the grappling exchanges with a national champion in combat sambo like Fiziev. I also suspect that Fiziev's speed, bodywork and ability to counter in combination will also provide problems for Bahamondes from a stylistic perspective. It's a dangerous fight for Fiziev, but I'll officially side with him to either stop Bahamondes with a body kick or beat him on the scorecards. Rafael Fiziev vs. Ignacio Bahamondes UFC Baku odds Despite the oddsmakers initially opening the Azerbaijan representative as the favorite, public money has flipped the betting line, listing Bahamondes -124 and Fiziev +102 via FanDuel. Rafael Fiziev vs. Ignacio Bahamondes UFC Baku start time, how to watch As the co-main event, Fiziev and Bahamondes are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 5:10 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts on ABC, ESPN and ESPN+.
