Gold price prediction: Silver looks set to outperform gold in the current year. (AI image)
Gold price prediction today: Gold rate is expected to see a limited upside in the short-term, feel analysts. As global trade tensions show signs of easing with progress on US-China trade deal talks, the safe haven appeal of gold is not as strong right now.
What should investors do? What is the gold price outlook for the coming days and should investors shift focus on silver? Maneesh Sharma, AVP - Commodities & Currencies, Anand Rathi Shares and Stock Brokers shares his views and recommendations:
Gold prices ended last week with marginal gains (weekly close $ 3310) despite prices soaring to above $ 3400 per oz earlier in last week in Spot as steady macro cues from US along with ease in trade tensions between US & China weighed on sentiments and limited its upside trajectory.
US President Donald Trump announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping has agreed to resume the export of rare earth minerals and magnets to the United States. The statement was made aboard Air Force One, as reported by Reuters, highlighting a potential easing of trade tensions between the two economic giants. The US had also indicated it may soften certain restrictions on technology exports in exchange for the same.

Modest US jobs growth in May lifted the dollar marginally last week. Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) in the United States (US) climbed as came in stronger than the market expectation as Federal Fund Futures pointed to a larger chance that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) may keep its benchmark interest rate steady at its next two monetary policy meetings.
In other news, China's central bank expanded its gold reserves for a seventh straight month in May, furthering its bid to diversify holdings despite ongoing price fluctuations.
The People's Bank of China added 60,000 troy ounces of the metal to its reserves last month, taking the total to 73.83 million fine troy ounces, according to data released Saturday. However the same indicated a slowdown in pace of accumulation by the central bank which did not bring in any substantial hike in prices during the start of the current week.
Gold Price Outlook
Traders to closely monitor US CPI (May) and PPI (May) data as any unexpected surprise in readings could lead to indications of delayed rate hike keeping sentiments muted.
Market attention also remains fixed on the London discussions, where US and Chinese officials have indicated progress in trade deal.
Meanwhile Silver, witnessing a breakout to 13 year highs last week had finally started to join the rally that gold started months ago. More than 8% move seen in silver prices since last week were on account of safe haven demand, due to escalating geopolitics on the Russia-Ukraine front combined with trade uncertainties and also driven by Industrial demand.
Gold Price Weekly View: Cautious Upside (1 – 2 Weeks)
We continue to expect limited upside in Gold for a short term perspective as any spike towards $3360 - 3390 per oz in Spot (CMP $3330 per oz) still remains a selling opportunity for the yellow metal.
On MCX Aug futures (CMP Rs. 97,075/10 gm) prices could trade in a broad range of Rs 98,500 – 95,000 per 10 gm for the coming week. MCX Silver is expected to remain steady as compared to Gold while may trade in a broad range of Rs 1,04,500 – 1,09,000 per kg.
in July futures contract as a combined Sell gold/Buy silver strategy could remain favourable on short to medium term perspective.
Also silver looks set to outperform gold in the current year as we expect silver to continue to rise in the range of $ 38.70 - 41.50 per oz in International spot markets (CMP $ 36.65 per oz) in the current year. This translates to a level of Rs 1,15,000 – 1,23,000 per kg. in the MCX futures market in 2025 providing further returns of almost 15 – 20% from current levels.

US attacks on Iran: S. Korean finance ministry to hold emergency meeting

Seoul: South Korea's finance ministry said on Sunday it will hold an emergency meeting to assess the economic impact of U.S. strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and the escalating conflict in the Middle East. The meeting was to be chaired by acting Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il, according to the ministry. Officials are expected to discuss the potential effects of the Iran-Israel conflict on the South Korean economy and explore measures to mitigate possible adverse outcomes. Separately, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy also held a related meeting to examine the implications of the U.S. attacks on South Korea's trade, energy and supply chains, reports Yonhap news agency. South Korea relies entirely on energy imports, with the majority sourced from the Middle East. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday (U.S. time) that American warplanes have bombed Iran's three key nuclear facilities, marking a major escalation in the ongoing war between Iran and Israel. The presidential National Security Council convened on Sunday to discuss ways to minimise the impact of the Middle East crisis following the United States' strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran, the presidential office said. National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac held the meeting with presidential aides on foreign affairs and security after the U.S. conducted precision strikes on three key nuclear facilities in Iran in an escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. During the meeting, Wi stressed the importance of protecting the lives and safety of the Korean people and ensuring the stability of daily life, according to presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung. "He urged close communication and cooperation among relevant ministries to minimize the impact of the recent series of developments in the Middle East on the Korean Peninsula's security and economic conditions," Kang said.

SK Group chairman calls for AI-led growth amid industrial revolution

Seoul: SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has called for a stronger focus on artificial intelligence (AI) as a new growth engine, urging the group to take a leading role in the AI-driven industrial revolution, the company said on Sunday. "The sustainable survival of companies depends on how they adapt to AI," Chey was quoted as saying during a recent groupwide business strategy meeting. "We should broaden our horizons by applying AI not only in information technology (IT) but also in areas such as electricity, energy and biotechnology." His remarks align with SK Group's long-term strategy to accelerate its "fourth quantum leap" by integrating AI into all aspects of business operations, spanning AI data centers, AI agents, robotics, manufacturing, energy and bio, reports Yonhap news agency. The group previously announced plans to invest 82 trillion won (US$59.7 billion) in AI and semiconductor sectors by 2030. As a first step, SK Group last week unveiled a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build a hyperscale AI data center in Ulsan, about 305 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The facility is scheduled to begin operations by 2027 and is expected to create up to 78,000 direct and indirect jobs over time as it scales. The project reflects SK Group and AWS' joint commitment to advancing cloud infrastructure to support AI innovation, the company said. The project brought together key SK Group affiliates, including SK Telecom Co., SK hynix Inc. and SK Gas, combining the group's strengths in ICT, energy and semiconductors. The new data center is expected to enhance the group's capabilities to meet growing demand for generative AI through compute, storage, database and edge computing solutions. "Hyperscale AI data centers are core national assets that can strengthen our geopolitical position amid intensifying global tech competition and trade pressure," the group said. "Given that AI data centers typically operate for decades, this large-scale investment by a global tech giant underscores confidence in Korea's political and economic stability and long-term growth potential."

Trump's Truth Social crashed moments after he announced strikes on Iranian nuclear strikes

Trump's social media platform Truth Social faced disruption across US soon after he posted about strikes on Iranian nuclear sites read more US President Donald Trump's Truth Social platform suffered a major outage early Sunday (June 22), moments after he announced the bombing of Iranian nuclear sites. Downdetector reported that thousands of users faced problems and experienced server issues while trying to access the social media platform on both Windows and mobile phones. The platform crashed soon after Trump posted this: 'We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran's airspace. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home." STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In a separate post, Trump wrote: 'Fordow is gone", referring to the underground nuclear facility near Natanz. The strikes followed the deployment of B-2 stealth bombers to Guam earlier on Saturday. In announcing the operation, President Trump confirmed that B-2 bombers executed the attacks, calling it a 'historic moment' for the US, Israel, and the global community, stressing that the strike was a critical step in addressing the ongoing regional crisis. What caused Truth Social to crash? Some screenshots posted by users showed that API (Application Programming Interfaces) congestion may have caused the disruption. It's a situation when the volume of requests being sent to an API exceeds its capacity to handle them efficiently, causing drop in performance quality. Simply put, it's a traffic jam for API requests. Despite Trump's massive popularity and following on all other social media platforms, he exclusively uses his Truth Social for making announcements and posts on issues of national and international importance. His stake in Truth Social's parent company TMTG has earned him a significant portion of his net worth. Just a few days back, the platform urged its users to following Trump by sending them an email. 'If you aren't following President Donald J. Trump on Truth Social, you're missing an essential resource for navigating world affairs today,' the e-mail read.
