Bride Furious to Find Out In-Laws Are Trying to Crash Her Honeymoon in Italy: 'Selfish and Invasive'

A new bride shared on Reddit that she and her husband are planning a two-week honeymoon in Italy's Amalfi Coast this fall But then she was recently dismayed to find out that her in-laws had booked a trip to the same destination at the exact same time "This feels selfish and invasive," she wrote of her in-laws potentially crashing the newlyweds' romantic tripA new bride says her much-anticipated honeymoon might go from a romantic trip for two to a party of four — and she's not happy about it. In a post on Reddit's "Wedding" forum, the bride shared that she and her husband, who just celebrated their destination wedding last week, are planning a two-week honeymoon in October in Italy's Amalfi Coast. "We had a honeymoon fund for the Amalfi, we told friends and family about it, a lot of people asked about it during our wedding weekend, and we were SO excited to have their tips, recommendations, etc.," she noted. But then, the couple was shocked to receive a text from his parents saying they had booked a trip to Amalfi during the exact same dates. "They invited us to join them for part of the time or the entire time … for our honeymoon," the bride wrote. "To say we're annoyed and upset is an understatement." "For context, we haven't booked anything yet, but they 1,000% knew our plan. My in-laws are such kind people, but this feels almost selfish and invasive," she continued. "They said they've always wanted to go there and that they determined the dates because it's the cheapest time to go. [I don't know] if that's true or not." She concluded her post by asking fellow Redditors how they would feel in a similar situation and what she should do. Many readers agreed that the in-laws were overstepping by trying to horn in on the couple's honeymoon experience. "Kinda creepy and very insensitive at the same time. And poor taste," one person argued. That's so weird for them to book to go away to the same place at the same time as your honeymoon. Why would anyone even want to do that? I'm truly baffled," a commenter wrote. Yet another person joked, "It reminds me of the first season of The White Lotus," referring to Molly Shannon's character Kitty showing up at the Hawaii resort to crash her son's honeymoon. is now available in the Apple App Store! Download it now for the most binge-worthy celeb content, exclusive video clips, astrology updates and more! As for how to handle the situation, quite a few people advised the bride to choose different dates, since her travel plans are not yet set in stone. "Just book your own dates, and don't share that info. If your husband wants to confront [his parents], fine. But you stay out of it," one wrote. One reader, however, attempted to see things from the point of view of the in-laws. "I hear you that they are encroaching on your honeymoon turf, BUT there could be another angle: they might just love you both to buckets and want to celebrate with you," they wrote. "Options: either tell them this is our trip, not yours. Stay home OR be so happy that they love you so much that they want to be part of your celebration," they continued, suggesting, "Whatever you decide, there is the option to set the boundary that most of your honeymoon time will be just the two of you, but you could meet them once or twice for lunch/dinner/beach." Hotel Santa Caterina Adds New Suites and Rooftop Dining in Amalfi

A stone's throw from Amalfi, Hotel Santa Caterina has been a fixture of Italian hospitality for more than a century. Originally built as a private residence in 1850 by Giuseppe Gambardella, a local landowner on the Amalfi Coast, the villa was transformed into a hotel with six rooms in 1904. Still family-owned and now in its fourth generation, the iconic property boasts 66 rooms and continues to honor its historic roots while building on its legacy for the future. As you drive along Italy's most iconic coastline, you can't miss the stately villa perched upon the hillside. Set on 5 acres dotted with lemon trees, Santa Caterina captures the essence of the Amalfi Coast with hand-painted tiles, elegant wooden furnishings and seaside views from its sunny terraces. Part of the Leading Hotels of the World collection, the Liberty style property is classic Italian: with a traditional revolving entrance, vintage wood-paneled reception and a hospitality team that has worked at the hotel for decades. More than staff, they're family — creating an atmosphere that feels like home rather than a hotel. Santa Caterina's rooms and suites are plush and elegant, featuring Vietri's famous majolica tiles, artisanal headboards and early 20th century furnishings. Many include private terraces or balconies with views of the sea or surrounding gardens. Chalet Giulietta & Romeo Courtesy of Hotel Santa Caterina Although the property prides itself on catering to families of all ages, two of the most beautiful suites are ideal for couples. 'Follia Amalfitana' features a unique shell-shaped bed, a hydrotherapy bathtub and a private outdoor pool, while 'Chalet Giulietta and Romeo,' an intimate cottage with vaulted ceilings and a garden terrace, offers a secluded pool with panoramic coastal views. Just a short walk away, Villa della Marchesa is a five-bedroom retreat ideal for larger groups. Complete with a lap pool, spacious kitchen with wine cellar and an expansive dining terrace where guests can enjoy private meals prepared by the chef. Villa della Marchesa Alessandra Farinelli This year, the hotel has added seven more suites in a refreshed, contemporary style to meet growing demand. Rather than expanding the footprint, the hotel has continued its longstanding practice of restoring existing structures — a necessity in a region where new development is tightly regulated. Dining at Santa Caterina is another unforgettable experience. Glicine, the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant, is set on a romantic terrace and named for the iconic wisteria draped over the property each year in April. Here you can order dishes à la carte, or a tasting menu, featuring creative spins on local recipes such as roasted squid stuffed with stuffed with zucchini, potatoes, and Provolone del Monaco cheese, or Wagyu beef with tuna, capers and anchovy sauce. Glicine Courtesy of Hotel Santa Caterina Ristorante Al Mare, located at sea level beside the pool, takes a more relaxed approach to the region's beloved comfort food. Enjoy tagliolini pasta with a creamy lemon sauce, eggplant parmesan or oven-baked pizzas alongside grilled seafood and decadent desserts — accompanied by the sound of waves lapping below and live mandolin performances. The newest addition, Senzafine, is a rooftop Mediterranean grill and raw bar that pairs elevated dishes with cocktails and sunset views. Signature plates include amberjack carpaccio with citrus and ponzu, Fassona beef tartare with hazelnuts and black truffle, and smoked eel yakitori with rosemary potatoes. Open Wednesday through Sunday, it's a stunning spot for an aperitivo as golden light bathes the coast. Ristorante Al Mare Courtesy of Hotel Santa Caterina While the sun shines, most guests spend leisurely days down at Santa Caterina's beach club. Reachable by a panoramic glass elevator or a scenic stroll down a lemon grove-lined path, the cliffside sundeck and saltwater pool are carved into the rock — making it one of the coast's most unforgettable retreats. There's also a small dock to catch a boat ride to Capri or along the coast. If you need to unwind, the hotel's spa offers treatments using ingredients grown on the property, including lemons, rosemary and olive oil. Don't miss the signature 'Amalfi Gold' massage which uses a lemon-infused oil to nourish both body and spirit. Santa Caterina also has a sauna, Turkish bath, hydrotherapy shower and fitness room with views of the sea. Whether you plan to stay at the property or explore the coast, Santa Caterina offers a prime location. Amalfi is a scenic 15-minute walk downhill, with a complimentary shuttle available around the clock. Ravello is just 20 minutes by car, while Positano is a picturesque 40-minute drive away.

NYC snubbed on new ‘10 best hotels in the world' list compiled by expert travel reviewers

La Liste just revealed the top 10 best hotels in the world — and none of the luxury ones in New York made the elite list. With so many incredible travel destinations — it's hard to narrow down the best places to stay, but the Paris-based company known for its hotel and restaurant rankings took on the difficult task of doing just that. To compile this list, the site looked at 400 different hotel reviews given by press — which then went through an algorithm system to create a score on a 100-point scale, as explained by Bloomberg. 'We are a synthesis of all the rankings and ratings that we find knowledgeable,' Helene Pietrini, managing director of La Liste, told Bloomberg. As a result, 10 different hotels around the world all ranked No. 1 — six of them are in Europe, and none in the tri-state area. Who made the cut? 1. La Réserve Paris This 5-star hotel is one that tourists — and travel reviewers — can't get enough of. 'The property has exceptional service, some great food and beverage outlets, a pool and spa, and a beautiful historic design. If money is no object, it really is hard to choose between the top properties in Paris — it all depends on what part of town you prefer staying in, and what kind of vibe and design you like,' One Mile At A Time wrote. 2. Cheval Blanc Paris Jing Daily described this Paris hotel as one that 'doesn't just offer accommodation at a level where everything is exceptional. What truly sets it apart is its ability to craft unforgettable moments — moments that I don't think I will ever forget.' 3. The Connaught Hotel in London 4 This London hotel is beloved by many travelers. In Pictures via Getty Images Forbes Travel Guide described this gem of a hotel as 'the perfect base to explore the rest of London, including the theaters of the West End, open spaces of nearby Hyde Park and Green Park and the designer boutiques, galleries, antique stores and restaurants a stone's throw away on Mount Street.' 4. The Savoy in London 4 The Savoy is the second UK hotel to make the elite list. Peter Dazeley Condé Nast Traveler described The Savoy as 'iconic' and a 'rumored favorite hotel of Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich (who has a suite named after her), the Savoy was the first hotel in Britain to have elevators and electric light, and it is still at the top of its game.' 5. Il San Pietro di Positano, Italy This hotel in Positano, Italy, is a favorite amongst travelers. 'Despite its celebrity status and litany of services, it remains a family affair – impeccably run by the Cinque family for over 50 years. The lush gardens and lemon groves, the fabulously romantic terrace bar and Michelin-starred restaurant Zass all offer mesmerizing Amalfi-coast views; down by the water, there's a pool, spa, tennis court, solarium and the al fresco beachside restaurant, Carlino's,' the Telegraph raved. 6. J.K. Place Capri, Italy This hotel on the island of Capri, Italy, is described as anything but ordinary. Forbes said this is 'one of the only hotels in Capri located right on the ocean. It has 22 unique rooms and suites. Many rooms have small balconies facing the sea, and the penthouse suite has a long private terrace with a panoramic view of the Gulf of Naples.' And the cost for these spectacular rooms? Seafront rooms reportedly go for $2,000 a night in the summer. 7. Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, Thailand 4 Expert reviewers couldn't say enough good things about this Thailand hotel. Getty Images Condé Nast Traveler explained that the Mandarin Oriental is 'Bangkok's first hotel is still, despite some extremely stiff competition from any number of more recent arrivals, it best — as well as one of the finest examples anywhere on earth of a grande dame that knows exactly how to grow old gracefully. Arrive by boat and you'll see the hotel from the Chao Phraya River, as nature intended.' 8. The Peninsula Shanghai, China Forbes Travel Guide had nothing but amazing things to say about the Peninsula Shanghai. 'The service is impeccable from the moment you arrive at the Five-Star hotel until you check out. And don't worry if your Chinese is limited to ni hao ('hello'): Everyone on the staff speaks English well and could not be more gracious or more readily available to help.' 9. The Peninsula Chicago 4 The Peninsula Chicago was the only US hotel to make the top 10 list. Getty Images It's a high honor for The Peninsula Chicago to make this elite list, since it's the only US option. Experts at the Pursuitist describe this hotel as 'the perfect upscale destination for families, dignitaries, celebrities, and affluent business travelers. With numerous delicious fine-dining options, the stunning pool, spacious rooms and suites, there is so much to adore about the legendary Peninsula Chicago.' 10. Rosewood Mayakoba, Playa del Carmen, Mexico This hotel is known for its modern rooms and quiet atmosphere with stunning views. 'A stay at Rosewood Mayakoba is just as much about luxury as it is about immersing oneself in the wilds of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula,' Conde Nast Traveler wrote.
