FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027™ Qualifiers groups drawn in Doha
An exciting 'Road to Qatar' has been laid out in greater detail for 80 national teams after the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers Draw was successfully completed today, 13 May 2025, at the stunning ALHAZM in Doha.
The Draw laid out the initial pathways for all nations pursuing a precious place at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, where 32 nations will compete for the prestigious Naismith Trophy. Taking place across six dedicated windows between November 2025 and March 2027, there will be 420 games to enjoy worldwide.
The Naismith Trophy was brought on stage by FIBA Basketball World Cup 2002 MVP, former Germany national team captain and basketball great Dirk Nowitzki, representing his country, the reigning world champion after winning the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. FIBA President Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, and the FIBA Central Board attended the event, along with Qatar Basketball Federation and LOC Director General Mohammed Al-Meghaiseeb.
More than 60 representatives from National Federations around the globe were also present in Doha for this prestigious occasion.

The draw was conducted by FIBA Global Ambassador and basketball legend Carmelo Anthony. He was assisted by British icon Sir Mo Farah - one of the most decorated long-distance runners in history, with four Olympic gold medals and six world titles to his name - Mutaz Essa Barshim, the four-time Olympic medalist in the high jump, and Yassin Mousa, GGC basketball legend and 3x3 world champion.

NBA superstar Kevin Durant joins Qatar Sports Investments, becomes PSG minority shareholder
Qatar Sports Investments, the majority owner of European Champions Paris Saint-Germain, has signed an investment and strategic partnership agreement with Kevin Durant, one of the most decorated US basketball players of all time and a leading investor in sports and entertainment properties. Raducanu paired with Alcaraz for new-look US Open mixed doubles
PAMedia/DPA London Emma Raducanu is set to play with Carlos Alcaraz in a star-studded mixed doubles event at the US Open this summer. Traditionally played in the latter stages of grand slams, US Open organizers announced earlier this year they would hold the mixed doubles tournament over two days in the week before the main tournament in an attempt to attract more high-profile players. The response was largely negative but the announcement of the first 16 pairs to have entered appears to have justified the move. Raducanu will hope it is more successful than her first mixed doubles attempt at a grand slam last summer with Andy Murray at Wimbledon, where she pulled out ahead of their opening match because of concern over her wrist, denying her partner what would have been a final appearance at the All England Club. It became one of the biggest stories of the tournament, with Raducanu receiving heavy criticism and later apologizing to Murray. As well as Alcaraz and Raducanu, British number one Jack Draper has entered with Olympic goal medallist Zheng Qinwen while men's world number one Jannik Sinner will play with American Emma Navarro. Other pairs include women's world number one Aryna Sabalenka and Grigor Dimitrov, Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios, Novak Djokovic and fellow Serbian Olga Danilovic and off-court partners Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The event will take place on August 19 and 20, with the winners scooping a prize pot of $1 million. Not all the pairs announced on Tuesday might make the cut, with entries open until July 28. The top eight teams with the best combined singles ranking - which currently would not include Raducanu and Alcaraz - will qualify directly, with eight further teams given wild card spots.

Draper laughs off snub as Emma picks Carlos for US Open
PA Media/DPA London Jack Draper joked that he did not blame Emma Raducanu for choosing Carlos Alcaraz over him as her mixed doubles partner at a star-studded US Open event this summer. Raducanu and world number two Alcaraz are among 16 big-name pairs announced by Flushing Meadows organisers on Tuesday. Asked if the two current British number ones could have got together instead, Draper said: 'A wise person once told me you should find the best partner - and that's what she did. I don't blame her at all for that. 'He's obviously the best player in the world probably right now, along with (Jannik) Sinner. Great at doubles, as well. She's gone about and chose the best partner, for sure. Hopefully they do well.' Draper, currently world number six, has linked up with Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng of China. 'I think it's a good format for the players to get prepared for the US Open, having a shot at playing with another top player,' he added. 'Qinwen I know from the Tour. I have seen her around. Obviously a great player herself and has a really good game. 'It will be fun to get out there and play with her and see how we get on. It was me who messaged. It was nice to get that together and let's see how we get on.' Alcaraz, who joined Draper in the second round at Queen's Club on Tuesday, said: 'She's gonna be the boss! 'I'm super excited about it. I think it's going to be great. It was an amazing idea for the tournament. 'I've known Emma since a really long time ago, so we know each other. I have a really good relationship with her. We are going to enjoy it, for sure. 'I will try to bring my doubles skill. We will try to win. But obviously it's going to be really, really fun.'
