After a sharp sell-off earlier this year, Indian IT stocks have delivered a striking comeback. The Nifty IT index has surged 10.5% in under two months, with several individual stocks posting even stronger gains. But with global headwinds intensifying—from a cautious US Federal Reserve to rising geopolitical tensions—the sustainability of this rally is now in question. Coforge has rallied nearly 35%, while Tech Mahindra and LTIMindtree are up 28% each. Persistent Systems Oracle Financial Services Software (OFSS), and Mphasis have posted gains of 16% to 22%. Even large-caps like Infosys and Wipro delivered double-digit returns in the same period. However, the rebound is starting to face resistance. Following the US Fed 's June policy meeting, the Nifty IT index slipped nearly 1%, signalling renewed caution among investors. The Federal Reserve kept its benchmark rate unchanged in June but raised its core PCE inflation projection—its preferred inflation measure—from 2.8% to 3.1% for 2025. Headline PCE is now expected to reach 3%, up from earlier estimates, indicating that price pressures are proving persistent.'The Federal Reserve's decision to hold interest rates steady comes as no surprise, given the persistent inflationary pressures in the U.S. economy,' said Suresh Darak, Founder, Bondbazaar. 'These pressures were... exacerbated by global conflicts pushing up oil prices and sustaining inflation.'At the same time, US GDP growth expectations have been revised down to 1.4%, raising concerns about delayed tech spending by large clients. 'Growth and inflation outlook is at loggerheads at this moment,' said Vaqarjaved Khan, Senior Fundamental Analyst at Angel One. 'Markets are interpreting this tone as somewhat hawkish.'With only one rate cut now likely in FY26, Indian IT companies that rely on US enterprise spending may see continued pressure on deal flows.Just as rate uncertainty builds, global tensions are driving a fresh spike in oil prices. Over the last week, conflict between Iran and Israel has intensified, and there are fears that the US may get involved. Iran's Supreme Leader has threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for nearly 20% of the world's oil shipments, while US President Donald Trump has hinted at a more aggressive US response. As a result, Brent crude prices jumped more than 18% to $79, while WTI rose 18.5% to $75.7 over just seven trading sessions. For Indian IT firms, a prolonged oil rally could lead to higher inflation globally, currency volatility, and tighter tech budgets for energy-sensitive industries.Tariff risks are also back in focus as the US heads toward its presidential election. Fed Chair Jerome Powell recently warned that 'tariff effects on inflation can be persistent,' sparking concern for Indian IT exporters that depend on stable global trade flows.'Going forward, if the US Fed delivers a 50-bps rate cut in 2025, it would increase liquidity in the global markets,' said Khan. 'However... Middle East tension and tariff-related announcements by the US... could increase inflation expectations globally. If any of these risks play out at a larger extent, the upside scenario in Indian equities might get halted.'The recent 35% rally in IT stocks has been driven in part by easing attrition, improving margins, and hopes of a demand revival. But with the Fed turning cautious and geopolitical risks rising, the sector's near-term trajectory looks uncertain.'Jerome Powell's comment that 'despite heightened uncertainty, the economy is in solid position' is important. However, he has warned that 'tariff effects on inflation can be persistent'... With only 1.4% GDP growth expected this year, the US is unlikely to attract a lot of capital flows,' said Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments.Post-Fed, IT names like LTIMindtree and Tech Mahindra dropped over 3% in a single session on June 19—reflecting the sector's sensitivity to global sentiment. The IT index's sharp bounce from its early-2025 lows shows that investors remain optimistic about long-term fundamentals. However, the path forward is likely to be volatile. With sticky inflation, oil-driven macro risks, tariff uncertainty, and a cautious Fed, the sector's recovery rally faces real tests. Whether the momentum can continue—or gives way to another round of selling—may depend on how these risks evolve over the next quarter.: Recommendations, suggestions, views, and opinions given by the experts are their own. Meet FWD-LM01, the Indian drone that flies 100km, finds targets, and hits on its own

India officially entered the global arena of long-range tactical drones with the unveiling of the FWD-LM01 , a new loitering munition developed by Bengaluru-based Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace ( FWDA ). The launch took place at the 55th edition of the Paris Air Show, one of the most watched global events in defence aviation. This is the first time an Indian firm has showcased a fully indigenous, export-ready loitering munition with a range of 100 kilometres on foreign soil. Until now, India's domestic development in this category had been limited to sub-40km systems. With FWD-LM01, India signals a shift—not just in reach, but in ambition. Tactical precision, portable power The FWD-LM01 is built for missions that demand speed, stealth, and accuracy. It's compact. Just 6kg in weight, man-portable, and designed to be deployed in under five minutes, without any tools. That makes it ideal for units on the move. Once launched, the system can loiter in air for up to 1.5 hours, climb to altitudes of 17,000 feet, and strike with a 2kg explosive payload. It integrates electro-optical infrared (EOIR) sensors for real-time visual intelligence and precision targeting. Live Events The munition's wingspan measures 2 metres, giving it flight stability and longer loitering ability over hostile terrain. Crucially, it's also AI-enabled, with autonomous targeting and navigation capabilities baked into the design. At the Paris launch, FWDA Founder and CEO Suhas Tejaskanda said, "With FWD-LM01, we are signalling the arrival of next-gen Indian capability in AI-enabled loitering strike systems. This is a highly agile, high altitude tested platform designed for modern asymmetric warfare." He added, "As India's first export ready loitering munition in the 100km range, we are committed to advancing India's defence capabilities with scalable solutions aligned with global standards." 100% made in Bengaluru, ready for export Every part of the FWD-LM01 is made in India. From concept to prototype to flight trials, the development has taken place entirely at Flying Wedge's Bengaluru facility. The company confirmed that the system has already completed its high-altitude flight tests, with explosive live-fire trials scheduled later this year for international certification. The launch isn't just about a new drone—it's about proving India's place in the fast-evolving world of autonomous warfare . Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace is a young company, but it's moving fast. Founded in 2022 by Suhas Tejaskanda, the firm started with a goal: to reduce India's dependence on imported defence systems and create scalable solutions rooted in AI. Key Specifications of FWD-LM01: Model Name: FWD-LM01 Take-off Weight: 6kg Payload: 2kg warhead + EOIR sensors Endurance: 1.5 hours Wingspan: 2 metres Range: 100km (linear) Deployment Time: Under 5 minutes (tool-free) Features: Autonomous targeting and navigation Status: High-altitude flight tested; global explosive trials due later in 2025 It's not just about making drones—it's about making India matter in the global conversation on next-generation warfare. And with players like FWDA leading the charge, the future may arrive sooner than expected.

Centre keeping close watch as Indian funds in Swiss banks triple to Rs 38,000 crore

Amid reports that Indian funds in Swiss banks tripled to Rs 38,000 crore in 2024, the Centre said it is closely monitoring possible tax evasion, leveraging various information exchange mechanisms with Switzerland on foreign assets and income. In a statement issued on Friday, the finance ministry said that India regularly receives information about such foreign accounts and assets from 100+ tax jurisdictions, including Switzerland. It further said that Switzerland has been providing annual financial information about Indian residents since 2018 under the Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) framework. The first data transmission to Indian authorities occurred in September 2019, and the exchange has continued regularly since then, covering even those accounts suspected of involvement in financial irregularities. According to a Swiss National Bank report, money parked by Indians in Swiss banks more than tripled in 2024, reaching 3.54 billion Swiss francs, or Rs 37,600 crore. Elaborating the mechanism to check tax evasion, the finance ministry has said that the tax department regularly undertakes a systematic review of data so received and identifies taxpayers, whose cases require further verification.

Desi auto cos yet to get Beijing nod for magnets

No Indian auto component or vehicle company managed to get approval from the Chinese govt for procuring rare earth magnets so far, sources said. They added that there is also "no clarity as yet" on any timeline for a confirmed meeting with representatives of the Chinese govt, despite the intervention of Indian officials. The applications for sourcing magnets were filed mainly by auto component manufacturers, who provide fully-built sophisticated component assemblies such as speedometers, electric motors, e-axles, electric water pumps, automatic transmission kits, speakers, sensors and ignition coils (used in engines). The companies that applied include Uno Minda, Bosch, Mareli, TVS Group, Motherson Sumi and Sona Comstar. "There were no approvals so far, according to the latest assessment we carried through interactions with industry representatives," one of the sources told TOI. "The situation is grave, and there is now massive uncertainty regarding manufacturing schedules and factory output." The request for a meeting with Chinese representatives is being pursued not only by industry bodies - Auto Component Manufacturers Association (Acma) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) - but also by ministries, such as heavy industries, external affairs, and Commerce. Officials from major automobile companies like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, and TVS are also pursuing the matter. The industry also had a meeting with top officials at the ministry of heavy industries earlier this week as govt looks at ways to navigate out of the current crisis. "However, not much headway was made so far," an official source said. Industry executives said the ministry onboarded Ernst & Young as a partner to work on the issue. The meeting also reviewed the preparation of some Indian companies working in the field of magnets. The auto industry requested local producers to give a firm timeline on supplies, if at all possible, emphasising that their production line is dependent on quick procurement. Both Acma and Siam prepared a list of delegates that they intend to rope in if a visit to China can be facilitated by the govt. Through a notification issued on April 4 this year, the Chinese govt imposed certain restrictions in the export permit system for medium and heavy rare earth metals, its alloys, magnets, and related products. To stop the diversion of magnets to defence and weapon requirements, China mandated that exporters must obtain a licence based on the provision of an End User Certificate (EUC), which would need approval from DGFT and the ministry of external affairs and also be endorsed by the Chinese Embassy in India. After this, the EUC needs to be sent to China for approvals - first from the provincial govt from where the exporter in China will produce and export and then from China's ministry of commerce.
