Patna: The long-awaited new terminal of Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna is finally ready and set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 29. Built at Rs 1,400 crore, the state-of-the-art facility spans 65,155 square meters, several times the size of the existing terminal.
The new terminal boasts 54 check-in counters, five aerobridges, eight X-ray baggage scanners, five baggage conveyor belts, multi-level car parking, a VIP lounge, cafeterias, and commercial spaces. Designed to accommodate 4,500 passengers daily, the terminal will increase annual capacity from 25 lakh to 1 crore. Daily flight operations are expected to rise from 34 to 75.
The architectural design draws inspiration from Madhubani art and Nalanda University, with beautiful depictions of Chhath Puja, Lord Buddha, Mahavira, and Patna Sahib Gurudwara, giving the terminal a uniquely Bihari soul. A striking 100-foot-tall tricolour now graces the airport premises, while a dedicated area pays tribute to Jayaprakash Narayan.
On the same day, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the upcoming Bihta Airport, located 35 km from Patna. Designed for larger aircraft, the new airport will span 68,000 square meters over 116 acres, with the capacity to handle 3,000 passengers per hour and 50 lakh annually.
Prime Minister will also launch and lay the foundation and inauguration for over 16 mega projects worth Rs 50,000 crore.

Navi Mumbai airport's ₹57,000 cr capex gets AERA's interim tariff nod

The Adani Group is planning to invest ₹57,333 crore in capital expenditure by 2029–30 (FY30) in the Navi Mumbai International Airport to build two passenger terminals, dual runways, a multi-modal transport hub, cargo terminals and metro connectivity within the airport premises, according to an official filing reviewed by Business Standard. This investment will cover the first three out of five development phases of the greenfield airport project. The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), in an order dated June 20, issued an ad hoc tariff order for the airport, approving interim user development fees (UDF) of ₹620 for departing domestic passengers and ₹1,225 for departing international passengers. Arriving domestic and international passengers will pay ₹270 and ₹525, respectively. These charges will be effective from the commercial opening of the airport, scheduled for August 2025, until March 31, 2026, or until regular tariffs are finalised, AERA noted. Adani Group-led Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (NMIAL) is building and managing the airport project. AERA stated that the ad hoc tariff was being introduced 'to avoid regulatory vacuum at the major airport', as regular tariff determination requires a detailed review of regulatory building blocks and stakeholder consultation. The authority also approved aircraft landing charges of Rs 1,400 per metric tonne for domestic flights and ₹1,850 per metric tonne for international flights. The first two phases of the airport's development, involving an investment of ₹22,531 crore, focus on the southern half of the site and will create capacity for 20 million passengers annually and 0.5 million metric tonnes of cargo. This includes a 3,700-metre-long southern runway, full-length dual taxiways, Terminal 1, an apron with 29 contact stands, and an integrated cargo and general aviation terminal. Terminal 1, located at the centre of the site, will be a multi-level structure with domestic and international piers and a large car parking facility. An interim air traffic control tower and fire stations are also being developed in this phase, along with new road access from both the eastern and western boundaries of the site. Phase 3, to be taken up from FY26 onwards, aims to expand the airport's capacity to 50 million passengers annually and 1.2 million metric tonnes of cargo. Construction will shift to the northern half of the site, where a second runway, Terminal 2, and expanded cargo, MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul), and general aviation facilities will be developed. Terminal 2 will be the largest terminal at Navi Mumbai, equipped with four piers, underground parking for 3,500 cars and contact gates for Code F aircraft (large widebody planes like the A380). A 104-metre-high air traffic control tower will also be built in this phase. Significant ground transport integration is also planned in Phase 3. Metro lines from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will connect to the airport, with three metro stations located within the site. A multi-modal transport hub will include an elevated metro station, a landside automated people mover, a bus terminal and interconnected skywalks linking the terminals. Vehicular underpasses, flyovers and looped roadways will also be constructed to streamline passenger and staff movement. According to NMIAL's projections, the new airport will handle 11.98 million passengers in FY26 and 33.9 million by FY30. Passenger traffic is expected to reach the initial 20 million capacity by FY28, triggering the Phase 3 expansion. 'Airport operator (NMIAL) has proposed to infuse an amount of ₹57,333 crore (approx.) on creation of airport facilities in the Navi Mumbai International Airport during the first three phases out of five phases,' AERA noted. NMIAL is a joint venture between the Adani Group-owned Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), which holds 74 per cent, and CIDCO, which holds 26 per cent. Once operational, Navi Mumbai airport will operate alongside the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), creating a dual-airport system for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. CSMIA is managed by MIAL. 'CSMIA has both landside and airside constraints for expansion, and therefore, the need for a second airport was felt,' NMIAL noted in its filings. The final two phases—Phases 4 and 5—will each add capacity for another 20 million passengers, bringing the total to 90 million passengers per annum (MPPA). Their construction will depend on actual traffic growth over time.

ideaForge bags Rs 137 cr deal to supply surveillance drones battle-tested during Op Sindoor to Army

ideaForge said the contract was awarded following a stringent evaluation process that placed emphasis on performance, security, and supply chain integrity. The hybrid Mini UAV is a fixed-wing VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) platform, designed for rapid deployment in complex terrains and contested environments. The drones, which were battle-tested during Operation Sindoor for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, will be delivered within 12 months to meet immediate operational needs, the company said in a statement. New Delhi: The Indian Army has signed a Rs 137 crore contract with Mumbai-based unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturer ideaForge through the emergency procurement route, for the supply of hybrid Mini UAV systems. A key requirement during the selection process was that critical subsystems be sourced only from non-border-sharing nations, in line with the defence ministry's ongoing efforts to limit foreign dependencies, especially on Chinese-origin components and promote domestic manufacturing. As ThePrint reported in March, the government has been working to finalise a framework that restricts Chinese components in UAVs deployed in sensitive operational areas, particularly along India's northern and eastern borders. Drones with Chinese embedded components have been flagged as a serious concern by the defence establishment. ideaForge noted that its UAVs underwent 'a rare and rigorous validation process' involving two separate high-level technical committees formed after the trials. These panels conducted multiple factory visits, physically and digitally stripping down each UAV unit to verify the origin of every critical component, assess embedded security architecture, and confirm supplier credibility. According to the company, a crucial aspect of the evaluation was to ensure exclusion of components from countries sharing land borders with India, aligning with policy guidelines that favour indigenous platforms and trusted sourcing. The hybrid Mini UAV has already received the 'Fit for Indian Military Use' certification from the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA), a certificate given only to systems that meet stringent standards of operational resilience, reliability and combat-readiness. The platform was also deployed during Operation Sindoor, where it was used by the Indian Army in live ISR operations. The performance of the UAV in real-world conditions was cited in the statement as a key factor that validated its technological robustness and mission utility. Ankit Mehta, co-founder and CEO of ideaForge, added, 'This emergency procurement for counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations reaffirms our commitment to building reliable, mission-critical UAVs in India. It is a matter of pride that our platforms are not just made in India, but are built to serve India under the toughest operational scenarios, supported by a trusted and resilient supply chain,' Mehta said. The order is part of the sixth edition of the emergency procurement drive, which Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed on Friday. The government had approved the drive worth around Rs 40,000 crore in mid-May under which the services can fast-track the delivery of critical weapons systems, ammunition and surveillance platforms identified as urgent requirements post-Operation Sindoor.
