'We absolutely took them apart' - St James' Park's best moments
Throughout Friday, we have been revealing who ex-Magpies defender John Anderson sees as the most memorable moments at St James' Park. Coming in at number three, according to Anderson, is Newcastle United's 4-1 win against Paris St-Germain in the group stages of the Champions League in 2023. "You look back at the goalscorers and they were not who you'd really expect," Anderson told BBC Radio Newcastle. "Miguel Almiron, Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn and Fabian Schar scored that night and we totally outplayed them. "We were fearless - we absolutely took them apart, and there wasn't a fault in the performance. And it was so deserved. There was nothing whatsoever lucky about it."From start to finish, PSG couldn't live with the tempo and energy we played with. We deservedly won - and won really well." In second, Anderson puts the infamous fight between Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer during a heavy defeat by Aston Villa in the 2004-05 Premier League season."Everybody is watching the game, and then the next minute, the two of them have got each other by the scruff of the neck in the middle of the pitch," said Anderson. "It's not something you'd expect to see, and both see red. "It's one of those incidents that anybody who was there on the day remembers it so well, because it was so unusual, especially in the modern game. "I remember leaving the ground; that's all anybody wanted to talk about, not the fact that we were beaten 3-0 by Aston Villa."What event do you reckon made top spot?Find out on BBC Sounds - or come back a little later on Friday

Reason Florian Wirtz chose Liverpool made clear in first words after £116m move
Florian Wirtz is excited for his new adverture after completing his transfer to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen. The Germany international becomes the Reds' most expensive ever signing after Arne Slot's side agreed a deal that could reach £116million. Liverpool will initially part ways with £100m and could yet secure a British record deal for the 22-year-old if add-ons, which are linked to both the individual success of the player and the team, are met. Wirtz arrived on Merseyside on Thursday to complete his medical ahead of the deal being confirmed, with the final tests being on Friday morning. Liverpool's newest attacker has put pen to paper on a five-year contract. Wirtz made it clear his preference was a move to Liverpool late last month and turned down advances from Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Real Madrid also had an initial interest but decided to pursue other targets. "I feel very happy and very proud," said Wirtz after signing. "Finally it's done and I was waiting for a long time – finally it's done and I am really happy. 'I'm really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League. 'I will see how I can perform there. I hope I can do my best. I spoke also with some players who played there and they told me that it's perfect for me and every pitch is perfect, you can enjoy every game. I'm really looking forward to playing my first game.' Winning the Premier League is already on Wirtz's mind. 'I would like to win everything every year! First of all, we have to do our work, I have to make my work," he added. 'In the end, we want to be successful. Last season they won the Premier League so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I'm really ambitious.' Liverpool's spending this summer is set to surpass £200m. The Reds are set to land Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth after agreeing a £40m fee. The left-back is set to make the trip to Merseyside for a medical next week. Join our new WhatsApp communityand receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Wirtz' stellar season with Leverkusen
Florian Wirtz played a pivotal role in Bayer Leverkusen's Bundesliga campaign in 2024-25, underlining his status as one of Europe's brightest young 31 league appearances, the 22-year-old maintained a steady influence in the final third, averaging 0.5 assists per game and creating 2.2 chances per match - key metrics that reflect his creative impact in Xabi Alonso's fluid conversion rate of 18.52% may not place him among the league's top scorers, but his 0.4 goals per game shows he remained a consistent threat in front of goal. Combined with a passing accuracy of 82.33%, Wirtz has continued to mature as both a playmaker and a link between midfield and his performances came despite a brief spell on the sidelines - Wirtz missed 30 days due to an inner ligament injury, a setback that might have disrupted rhythm for many players. Yet his return was seamless, and his influence never Leverkusen pushed on both domestically and in Europe, Wirtz's presence remained central - a reminder of why he is one of Germany's brightest talents heading into the next campaign.
