
'60 died in past month': Ukrainian accused of killing monkeys with air gun near sacred Govardhan Parikrama route
AGRA: At least 12 monkeys were found dead and several others injured under suspicious circumstances in Anyour village near Govind Kund,
Mathura
district, on Monday. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Goverdhan police station.
According to locals, a Ukrainian national residing at the Radha Madan Mohan Das Ashram shot the monkeys using an air gun around 11am.
Residents claimed that nearly 60 monkeys have died in the area over the past month. Following the incident, police officials called a team from the local veterinary hospital. The dead monkeys were sent for postmortem, examination while veterinary staff treated the injured animals.
Dr Shweta Singh of the Goverdhan Veterinary Hospital said, "The Police informed us about the case. At the scene, we found three to four injured monkeys. During first aid, we found pellet-like objects embedded in the heads of monkeys, suggesting injuries caused by an air gun."

Goverdhan station house officer (SHO)Ravi Tyagi confirmed that two men - Janki Das and Braj Sundar Das (a Ukrainian national) - were taken into custody. The Ukrainian suspect has reportedly been staying in Mathura since July 2024, on a visa valid until July this year. Both the accused have been booked under IPC Section 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Mathura SP (Rural) Trigun Bisen told TOI, "The postmortem report is expected by tomorrow, and further action will be based on the findings."
A local resident said, "There are forests on both sides of the Goverdhan-Parikrama marg. We often saw dead monkeys and assumed they died naturally. But this incident suggests they may have been deliberately killed.

Mumbai: The Mumbai: Ghatkopar police on Sunday arrested the aggregator cab driver who allegedly re-routed his vehicle while driving a 28-year-old woman pilot home on June 19 night, and stopped and allowed in his two friends who went on to sexually harass her. She added the man sitting next to her grabbed her right hand and twisted it backwards. As she screamed in fear, the other man sitting in the front passenger seat threatened her to be quiet. The driver stayed silent, she said in her complaintFIR. She added she was in a state of panic, paid the fare of Rs 530, and he left. On June 20 night, she and her husband filed a complaint at Ghatkopar police station. An FIR was registered the next day and Shaikh was tracked down based on the booking details of the cab. Police are yet to seize the vehicle. Police have booked Shaikh and the two unidentified men under sections 75(1) (sexual harassment), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 3 (5) (when a criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all, each of such persons is liable for that act in the same manner as if done by him alone) of the BNS.

Chatra: The 4,000 residents of Banasham village, located three km from the Kunda block headquarters, in Chatra district are unable to avail the basic amenities of a human life as the rural area is yet to be linked with a paved road till date. A four-wheeler belonging to a resident of the Kunda block headquarters, which was booked to transport a sick Saroj Kumar (48) to the hospital on Saturday, got stuck in the damaged kachcha road. It took 8-10 hours to pull it out. The family members of the sick person took him to the hospital on a motorcycle in rain. Driver Umesh Kumar said, "We were passing through a kachcha road to reach the village when the vehicle got stuck in the slush. Many parts of the vehicle got damaged. I will never come to this village again in spite of the money offered." Villager Manoj Kumar said, "Elections have been organised and people's representatives elected for years since Independence and even after the state was formed. But we are yet to get a road. Driving on the katchha road during monsoon poses a risk to our safety. Bikes have met with accidents due to the dilapidated kachcha road several times." In another case in Pratappur block, a road leading to the Gome bridge on Pratappur Huntergunj main road has caved in. The soil under the road has been washed away due to due to the continuous heavy rain. Pratappur police demarcated the area for the safety of the commuters. Speaking to TOI, deputy development commissioner Amrendra Sinha said, "The district administration is taking all steps to ensure basic facilities in rural areas. We will take steps to ensure that Banasham village is linked to Kunda block with a paved road. As for the road leading to the Gome bridge, we are assessing the damages and funds will be allotted for the repair."

Accident near b'day revelry on road kills 1, injures 5
Pithoragarh: A 35-year-old man was killed and five others were injured after a utility vehicle collided with a parked car next to which the local residents were celebrating a birthday party on Kakrali-Purnagiri road at Gaidakhali in Champawat district of Uttarakhand on Saturday night. Police said the Kakrali-Purnagiri road was closed for vehicular movement from 6pm to 6am, and some locals had parked their car. The injured men, all locals, were also there and were having a birthday celebration next to their parked car on the roadside, when the utility vehicle coming from Kakrali side lost control and hit their car. Two critically injured men were shifted to another medical facility, while one received treatment at Tanakpur hospital and two others were discharged after first aid. Mahendra Singh, brother of deceased Nirmal Singh, has filed an FIR at Tanakpur police station against driver Rakesh Bohra. A case was subsequently registered under BNS sections 281 (rash driving), 125 (A) (endangering life...) and 106 (1) (causing death by negligence). Mahendra said that Nirmal was a photographer and had gone there to take a few pictures during the roadside party.
