BMW M2 CS returns with bold new look and plenty of power
The current, second-generation BMW M2 arrived in 2022 and while many thought a hotter Competition variant would make a comeback, BMW has skipped this step entirely by revealing the new M2 CS.
Like the previous BMW M2 CS, this new model sits at the top of the M2 line up - with plenty of powertrain and chassis upgrades to go with its more aggressive looks. Pricing hasn't been revealed just yet, though we expect a hefty premium over the standard M2's £68,705 price tag.
We've seen the CS moniker not just on the old M2, but also on the previous-generation M5, as well as the current M3 and M4. All those cars got a noticeable power bump and it's the same story here. While the regular M2 has 473bhp and 600Nm of torque, we expect the CS to get well over 500bhp and 650Nm – using the same basic twin-turbocharged three-litre straight-six as the standard car. An interior image shows that power will go to the rear-wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with a six-speed manual option unlikely.
We've seen the CS testing in prototype guise plenty of times ahead of its reveal, although there are some new styling cues to take in here. Firstly, the rear end has a prominent ducktail spoiler that's integrated into the bootlid (as on the recent M4 CSL) and a unique diffuser. The CS also gets a matt black front splitter, a carbon-fibre roof and bespoke, gold, staggered wheels – although it's not yet known how all of this will affect the M2's 1,780kg kerbweight. Inside, there's plenty of M-branding, with added 'CS' logos and a carbon centre console. The CS gets more serious bucket seats, too, and – we suspect – some extra track-focused driving modes.
UK customer deliveries are expected to begin in the coming months. However, prospective buyers may have to move quickly, because the new CS could be a 'limited run', just like the previous version, which was limited to just 2,200 units globally.

Man in his 20s dies after collision in Weston-super-Mare
A man in his 20s has died following a two-vehicle collision. Avon and Somerset Police said the crash happened at about 23:35 BST on 20 June in Uphill Road North in Weston-super-Mare. The force said a red Audi A3 was heading towards Uphill when it collided with a purple Mercedes C240 travelling in the opposite direction, near the junction for Moorland Audi driver sustained serious injuries and died in hospital on Saturday. Police said the Mercedes driver, aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or Road North was closed to allow for an investigation and recovery work but reopened on Saturday morning. Anybody who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the force.

Minibuses for rural routes are in production
It was interesting to read the letter (13 June) from Mike Parker regarding rural buses, making the argument that minibuses suitable for rural routes should be manufactured. And that such a business would be ideal for an entrepreneur. Ironically, it was only a few days before that letter, on 4 June, that Rachel Reeves made her transport funding announcement of £15.6bn from the premises of Mellor Bus in Rochdale, which, along with its sister company, Treka Bus in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, make a range of buses, including 16-seater ones suitable for rural routes. Mellor and Treka are both part of the Woodall Nicholson group. That group's business was acquired in 2023 by a Belgian entrepreneur, Guido Dumarey, to add to his portfolio. So there are suitable buses and there is an entrepreneur – let's hope he keeps those businesses manufacturing in the UK. It is a pity that the chassis used for the buses are of European origin (Mercedes and Iveco/Fiat) as there are no UK manufacturers of suitable chassis – now there's an opportunity. But, as both Ford and DAF stopped making that type of chassis in the UK years ago, I can't see any obvious candidate. 007 Roger Moore's beloved vehicle in the Bond movies is up for auction - and it's not an Aston Martin
There are plenty of iconic cars to choose from in the James Bond movies, such as the frequently featured Aston Martin DB5, the Lotus Esprit-turned submarine from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), and the Renault 11 taxi in A View To A Kill (1985). However, in the eyes of 007 star Roger Moore, there was none more beloved than the yellow Citroen 2CV from the great chase scene in For Your Eyes Only (1981). One of the automobiles used in that particular all-action sequence was being sold off at auction - after it was rescued from a scrapyard in Paris, France. The motor's the only 2CV from the movie to ever be offered for auction, despite being one of six cars trashed by the film crew to capture the seven-minute chase where it was up against a pair of Peugeot 504s through the outskirts of Madrid, Spain. The month-long online sale's already up and running, with the highest price offered so far of $120,000, though the company overseeing bidding believe it could reach half a million dollars by the time bidding ends on July 17. The chase scene's remembered as one of the best Bond car sequences of all time. To capture the high-octane scene, all six specially converted 2CVs were battered. The one up for auction started out as the pristine vehicle used at the very beginning of the chase scene and - despite sustaining plenty of damage - was one of three that withstood the destruction. The production team customized three of the six cars for filming - though not all were the same. They were all fitted with a more powerful Citroen GS 1,015cc engine not commercially available in a 2CV (which used a smaller 602cc system), adapting and reinforcing the interior, and giving the vehicles reproduction Spanish-style number plates with the vinyl lettering M-1026-A. There's more: Once filming was complete, the three modified 2CVs had very different journeys - one was sold to a UK collector, another was retained by Citroen for its private collection, and the third's the one up for auction This car was used specifically for the driving shots, so it was not fitted with a roll cage as it would have been visible on camera. Years later, when recalling the famous chase sequence, director John Glen said: 'I love that scene. It was the complete opposite of what one would expect. It's usually an Aston Martin, so I thought let's go the absolute opposite end of the spectrum with a Deux Chevaux.' Moore proclaimed it to be his favorite Bond car and later wrote in his memoir: 'It was huge fun to drive down through olive groves in.'
