A platform for the future
Kerala witnessed its first-ever media and entertainment-focused conference with the successful debut of MediaCon 2024 on April 22. Held at EMS Hall, University of Kerala, Karyavattom, the one-day conference marked a pivotal step in bridging the gap between emerging media professionals and the dynamic entertainment industry. The event was curated by CTLG , a Kerala-based celebrity and artist management agency known for working with talents like Sree Leela, Ayesha Khan, King, and Taba Chake.Designed as an industry-first intellectual property (IP), MediaCon brought together students, digital creators , journalists, and entertainment professionals to dissect the rapidly evolving media landscape. With panel discussions and keynote sessions, the conference examined how storytelling, publicity, influencer marketing, and digital virality shape today's entertainment economy. Topics spanned from the shifting role of traditional journalism to the rise of creator-led content and the growing demand for credible public relations in artist careers. The agenda was crafted to encourage open dialogue on how entertainment commerce and media now operate in a hybrid digital ecosystem. Adwaith S, founder of CTLG, noted, 'This is an industry that thrives on attention and storytelling, and yet we rarely bring the people behind the headlines, the camera, and the stage into the same room. MediaCon is our attempt to change that.'Organized in collaboration with µLearn UCEK, a student community initiative under the University of Kerala, the event saw strong participation from aspiring professionals. The conference was lauded by senior members of the media and entertainment fraternity, many of whom recognized the need for such targeted platforms. CTLG has confirmed that MediaCon will become a recurring property, with its next edition planned for a college campus in Thiruvananthapuram. With the Indian media and entertainment sector expanding rapidly, MediaCon emerges as a timely, student-facing platform aiming to reshape how stories are told, artists are represented, and young talent connects with industry veterans.

28 Years Later & Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle reveals why the latter can't be made now
Boyle's directorial Slumdog Millionaire released in 2008 and went on to receive 8 Academy Awards at the 81st edition of the festival in 2009. read more Oscar winner Danny Boyle says it's not possible to make 'Slumdog Millionaire' now and believes 'that's how it should be'. Boyle's directorial 'Slumdog Millionaire' released in 2008 and went on to receive 8 Academy Awards at the 81st edition of the festival in 2009. 'We wouldn't be able to make that now. And that's how it should be. It's time to reflect on all that. We have to look at the cultural baggage we carry and the mark that we've left on the world,' Boyle told The Guardian in an interview. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Starring Dev Patel and Freida Pinto in the lead roles, the British drama film followed the story of Jamal Malik (Patel), a young man from the slums of Mumbai who appears on a reality game show 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'. Asked if the film was a form of colonialism, the filmmaker said, 'No, no… Well, only in the sense that everything is. At the time it felt radical. We made the decision that only a handful of us would go to Mumbai. We'd work with a big Indian crew and try to make a film within the culture. But you're still an outsider. It's still a flawed method.' Boyle added he wouldn't even get the film financed if he were to make it in present. 'That kind of cultural appropriation might be sanctioned at certain times. But at other times it cannot be. I mean, I'm proud of the film, but you wouldn't even contemplate doing something like that today. It wouldn't even get financed. Even if I was involved, I'd be looking for a young Indian filmmaker to shoot it.' 'Slumdog Millionaire' also featured Rubina Ali, Anil Kapoor and late actor Irrfan Khan in pivotal roles.28
