Brent crude prices to remain at USD 70/bbl in FY26 despite Israel-Iran conflict: Report
New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): Despite recent volatility and rising conflicts between Israel and Iran, Brent crude oil prices are expected to average around USD 70 per barrel in FY26, according to a report by Emkay Research.
The report stated that the oil markets remain fundamentally well supplied, with rising production levels from both OPEC+ and non-OPEC+ countries.
It said 'we continue to assume Brent price at USD70/bbl for FY26. Fundamentally, oil markets are well supplied with rising production.' This steady supply is expected to help stabilise prices in the coming weeks, even though geopolitical risks may cause short-term volatility.
The report noted that Israel's attack on Iranian nuclear sites and personnel had initially triggered a sharp 12-13 per cent jump in oil prices, with Brent reaching close to USD 80/bbl.
Since then, prices have settled around USD 75/bbl, despite ongoing attacks from both sides. Iran has responded by hitting Israeli cities with missiles, and Israel has intensified its strikes on Iran. Signals from the US administration regarding a ceasefire remain unclear.
According to the report, unless there is lasting damage to oil and gas infrastructure, similar to earlier patterns seen during the Russia-Ukraine conflict, oil prices are likely to stabilise. A ceasefire could even bring Brent prices down below USD 70/bbl.
The report also highlighted that Iran has partially shut its South Pars gas field following Israeli attacks. A major fuel depot and a gas refinery were hit, but the impact seems limited to domestic markets. Israel has suspended operations in two of its gas fields that export to Egypt and Jordan.
As a result, spot LNG prices have increased to around USD 13.5/mmbtu, compared to USD 12/mmbtu before the conflict.
The report further noted that oil markets in 2025 have remained well supplied with rising inventories. Although near-term volatility may continue, the average Brent crude price for the year is still expected to be around USD 70/bbl.
At this price level, both upstream oil players and oil marketing companies (OMCs) are in a safe zone. However, the report believed OMCs offer a more attractive valuation and better risk-reward profile.
The report also flagged concerns over the gas market, as the early onset of monsoons has impacted demand, making the gas outlook uncertain. (ANI)

(ANI Photo) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he declined an invitation from US President Donald Trump to visit Washington, and instead chose to come to Odisha, the sacred land of Lord Jagannath. The Prime Minister was addressing a rally marking the first anniversary of Odisha's maiden BJP government. He also launched a scathing attack on the Congress and accused the opposition party of using tribals for political gains, keeping them backward by branding their habitation as 'red corridor'. Modi, who recently returned to Delhi after concluding his three-nation tour, recalled how he preferred Odisha visit than a call from Washington. 'I was in Canada for the G7 Summit when US President Trump called me up and invited me to Washington for a discussion and lunch. I thanked him for the invitation, saying I have to visit Odisha, the land of Lord Jagannath. I humbly rejected his invitation,' he said. The Prime Minister had on Tuesday declined Trump's US visit invitation while returning from Canada, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had said on the Modi-Trump phone call. Modi said he could not accept the invitation due to a pre-existing schedule, and invited Trump to visit India for the Quad Summit, likely later this year. The two leaders were scheduled to meet in Canada on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. However, the US President left the meeting midway amidst rising hostilities between Israel and Iran. On the occasion of the first anniversary of the BJP government headed by a tribal chief minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, launched development projects worth over Rs 18,600 crore. He said the saffron party fulfilled the long-awaited demands of the people as the four gates of Puri Jagannath temple and its 'Ratna Bhandar' (treasury) have been reopened. Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, Modi accused the opposition party of deliberately keeping tribal communities underdeveloped and branding their regions as the 'red corridor' for political gains. 'The party which ruled India for decades had neglected the tribal community and used them merely for political benefits,' he said in an apparent reference to the Congress. He alleged that tribal-dominated regions were 'intentionally left backward' during the previous regimes. 'Over 125 tribal-dominated districts in the country were affected by Maoists for years. These areas were given a bad name like 'red corridor'. Most of these districts were declared backward, and the then governments did not take the responsibility to develop them,' Modi said. On the other hand, Modi said that his government since some years has freed the tribal society from violence and showed them the path to development. 'The BJP government took stern action against those spreading violence and at the same time ensured uninterrupted development in tribal areas,' he said, adding that it has given dividends for which the Naxal violence is grossly contained. 'The Naxal violence is now confined to 20 districts in the country. The pace at which the actions are being taken against the Naxalites, the tribal community will soon get rid of violence. Naxalism will be eradicated from the country and this is Modi's guarantee,' the Prime Minister said, adding that the BJP government's priority is to fulfil the dreams of tribals, ease their lives and giving them new opportunities in life. Stating that the Centre is spending more than Rs 1 lakh crore for tribal development, the Prime Minister said that the Union government has launched two major schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) and Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, named after the tribal icon Birsa Munda. He said developmental works are being carried out in more than 60,000 tribal villages, including those in Odisha. The tribal villages are being provided with roads, electricity, drinking water and other facilities. As many as 40 residential schools for tribal students are under construction. Prime Minister Modi noted that President Droupadi Murmu's guidance was the inspiration for launching of the PM-JANMAN scheme. Referring to the fishing community, the Prime Minister announced that the central government is setting up a special fund of Rs 25,000 crore, which will greatly benefit those living along Odisha's coastline and generate opportunities for the youth. He said that for the first time, a major nationwide scheme — PM Matsya Sampada Yojana — has been formulated for the welfare of fishermen. The fishermen are now receiving the benefit of the Kisan Credit Card facility as well, he said. Modi, who completed first year of his third term in office on June 9, said that obstructing developmental projects and indulging in corruption, were the 'model' of the previous Congress governments. However, the entire country has been witnessing the development model of the BJP, he said. The PM said that Odisha too had been grappling with numerous challenges for decades when the poor and farmers were not getting their due rights as corruption and red-tapism were dominant, and infrastructure across the state was in a dire condition. 'Such challenges had become the unfortunate reality of Odisha. Over the past year, the BJP government has worked with full resolve to address these issues and this has been possible due to double-engine government (BJP government in both state and Centre). The double-engine government has given double benefit to Odisha,' Modi said.

Hypersonic speeds, advanced techniques and...: How Iran destroyed Israel's famed air defenses Arrow, David's Sling and Iron Dome?
Israel's air defenses have significantly weakened since June 13. (File) Iran-Israel war: Iranian missiles have repeatedly penetrated Israel's multi-layered air defense systems– including the Iron Dome– causing widespread devastation across the Jewish state as the Iran-Israel war entered its eighth day on Friday. But how did Iran manage to breach the famed Israeli air defenses, which includes some of the world's most advanced and sophisticated anti-missile systems like Arrow 1, 2 and 3, the David's Sling, and of course the Iron Dome short-range interceptor? According to defense experts, Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used a combination of methods to enable Iranian missiles to penetrate Israeli air defense systems. Saturation attacks to overwhelm Israeli air defenses When Iran launches a barrage of missiles at Israel, they are accompanied by swarms of low-cost attack drones like Shahed 136, which air primarily aimed to saturate or overwhelm the air defense as it has to engage numerous targets at once. Additionally, Iran does not fire all its aerial projectiles in one go, instead they are launched in waves, making the interception even more difficult for Israeli air defenses. This strategy allows a few advanced missiles to breach the defenses and strike their targets. Israel uses the Iron Dome for short-range interception, David's Sling for medium-range ballistic and cruise missiles, and the Arrow 2 and 3 to intercept more advanced aerial threats such as long-range hypersonic ballistic missiles. However, the country is running out of interceptors due to the sheer volume of projectiles launched by Iran, and may soon have to choose which threat to intercept and which to let through, according to reports. Variety of Iran's aerial projectiles Iranian attacks usually consist a mix of drone swarms flying slower and at lower altitudes, and the much faster ballistic missiles that have a higher flying trajectory, making it difficult for air defense systems to intercept a multitude of targets that have varying flight characteristics and attack trajectories. Additionally, some of Iran's missiles, such as the Haj Qassem and the Sejjil, are capable of reaching hypersonic speeds of above Mach 5, and follow a high-flight trajectory before rapid reentry into the atmosphere, leaving little for Israeli air defenses to engage and intercept the threat. Iran also launched its Fattah-1 hypersonic missile at Israel which reportedly travels at Mach 15 speeds, making it almost impossible for any air defense system to intercept. Maneuvering techniques and spoofing According to reports, Iran has also employed advanced spoofing methods and guidance techniques to guide their missiles, which allegedly Israeli air defenses, causing them to target each other's interceptor missiles instead of the incoming threat. While the IRGC has not disclosed the details of this purported 'spoofing' technique, experts believe that the Iranians have likely found a way to exploit the target acquisition and engagement logic of Israel's interceptors. Additionally, reports suggest that some advanced Iranian missiles employ employ maneuverable re-entry vehicles (MaRV) or release decoys, which makes tracking their trajectories almost impossible, and further complicates interception. Interceptions cost Israel $285 million per night As per defense experts, Israel is forced to spend around $285 million (approximately 1 billion shekels) to stop Iranian missile and drone attacks each night, with a single Arrow 3 interceptor missile costing a whopping $3 million. Israel will likely run out of interceptor missiles with less than two weeks time and will not be able to stop Iranian aerial threats if immediate military resupplies are not received from the United States (US), they say. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Israel is running out of interceptors to intercept short-range missiles, and at the current rate, its ability to intercept and neutralize short-range ballistic missiles (SRMs) could last for around 10-12 days at best. Citing US officials, the report said that Israel may soon have to choose which missile to intercept and which one to let through if Iran continues its ballistic missile attack at the current pace. As per the report, Iran has fired more than 400 ballistic missiles towards Israel since June 13 after Israel sparked the ongoing Iran-Israel war when it conducted deadly airstrikes deep inside the Islamic Republic under Operation Rising Lion.
