Two wanted men arrested in Cambridge

Two men have been arrested, and drugs and weapons were seized, as part of an investigation in Cambridge.
Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service found the men in the Preston area of Cambridge on Thursday.
The first man, a 38-year-old from Kitchener, was wanted on four warrants including break and enter, failing to attend court and failing to comply with a release order.
The other man, a 33-year-old from Cambridge, was wanted by the Stratford Police Service on three unspecified warrants.
The next day, police searched a home on King Street East in Cambridge. They seized suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, oxycodone and hydromorphone. They also found an improvised conducted energy weapon, a replica rifle and pepper spray.
Both men have been charged with five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of careless use of a firearm and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

East Hants District RCMP responded to a report of a missing 81-year-old man around 10:40 p.m. on June 11. Police learned the man was last seen at 3:30 p.m. when he was picked up by a public transit service outside a home. The man was found in a public transit service vehicle just before 11 p.m. Police say the man, who was the only person inside the vehicle, was found in medical distress and taken to hospital. On Thursday, 64-year-old George Morrison of Stanley, N.S., was charged with causing bodily harm by criminal negligence and failure to provide necessities. Inmate escapes from Stony Mountain Institution north of Winnipeg
A 41-year-old prison inmate is on the loose after escaping Stony Mountain Institution, says the Correctional Service of Canada. Staff at the prison, about 10 kilometres north of Winnipeg, discovered on Monday that Jason David Vanwyck was gone. No information was provided by the CSC on when that realization was made. The RCMP was immediately contacted and a warrant was issued for Vanwyck's arrest, according to a news release from the CSC on Monday. Vanwyck is described as six feet tall and 241 pounds with green eyes and brown hair. He is serving a sentence of just over two years for breaking and entering, theft, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or harm and mischief. The CSC did not say when Vanwyck began his sentence. Anyone with information on his location is urged to contact police.

Homicide detectives say there has been ‘significant development' in disappearance of Hamilton woman
Homicide detectives say there has been a 'significant development' in the investigation into the disappearance of 40-year-old Hamilton woman Shalini Singh, who was last seen in December. New details of the investigation are expected to be revealed at a news conference on Monday morning. Last month, investigators announced that partial human remains were discovered at a landfill site where investigators were searching for Singh's body. The discovery was made after months of combing through thousands of cubic metres of waste at the Glanbrook Landfill. At that time, investigators said it could take several weeks to determine if the human remains belong to Singh, who was last heard from at around 7:10 p.m. on Dec. 4 and reported missing by her family on Dec. 10, 2024. Police previously said the case was quickly assigned to the homicide unit in December based on 'emerging evidence and concern for her wellbeing.' Det.-Sgt. Daryl Reid told reporters last month that 'extensive' video surveillance footage from Singh's building showed that she returned to her unit but was never spotted leaving the building again. 'As the investigation progressed, we began to consider the possibility that Shalini may have been disposed and removed from the building by way of the garbage disposal system,' Reid said. He would not confirm if Singh's boyfriend is a suspect in her disappearance, but noted he has not cooperated with the probe. In the early days of the investigation, police were initially searching for both Singh and her boyfriend, but the man was located on Dec. 11 after police said he'd been visiting a family member outside of Hamilton. 'When we get the confirmation back from (the Centre for Forensic Sciences), that will progress our investigation to the next level,' Reid said in May. The news conference is scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. and will be streamed live on the CTV News App, and the CP24 App.
